MN webchat with Cadburys/Kraft to answer for their shit chocolate

Lots of threads at the moment about how shit Cadburys (Kraft) chocolate is now. Full of palm oil and other nasties. So how about MNHQ arrange for some execs to come and explain themselves to their former customers?

And a guest blog from a chocolate chemist to explain why it now tastes so bad.

I like that idea.

They should be locked up for the changes they have made to pensions, and removing the pensioners chocolate.

I actually don't think that is true that "consumers want their chocolate cheap", I don't think the choice has been given. Consumers are paying a lot more to get palm free chocolate, but they are seeking it out.

I'd love the old stuff back. Also Cadbury's Mint Crisp. But just the old texture. Palm oil has no real place in chocolate, surely?

It's not Kraft that owns Cadbury any more - the division was spun off as Mondelez. The chocolate is still the same old Kraft style crap though.

I can't believe their sales aren't down. I look at it on the shelf - at all the nonsense, gimmicky shite they come out with now - and think to myself, nah, don't want it. Didn't buy a creme egg this year or last year. Can't be the only one. Mondelez, or whoever it is, has bought up a few countries' special brands and fucked them up. Other brands will be offsetting the downwards spiralling profits. Have they listened though? I though they've reinstated the glass and a half of milk symbol on some products' packaging? The Americanisation of it turns my stomach - popping fucking candy, Marvellous Creations, oddball shapes. Who is their target market with this new shite? Not me.

I don't buy any cadbury's anymore. Kraft clearly don't care that it now tastes horrible. The positive to this is that I've discovered The Grown Up Chocolate Company

No palm or vegetable oil. So what's Crapbury's excuse?

Outside of mn, I never hear anyone complain about the taste of Cadburys. I honestly have never noticed it so it cant have been that radical.

Last time I was in Poundworld there was cadbury's piled up to the ceiling - that doesn't indicate to me that their crap is selling well. I hope they rot in hell for what they have done to my once favourite chocolate.

Don't forget that they often have product tests re cadbury in Mumsnet Insight on the right hand side. I always add my discontent and hatred to all those happily saying how much they love cadburys to earn some hand out.

I now buy a very scientific measurement of "a fistful of orangettes please" from Leonidas, maybe every 6 weeks, as my chocolate hit. I cannot eat Cadbury's anymore.

The thing is - I am probably paying LESS to Leonidas in the time, for proper chocolate that actually feels like a treat, than I was spending on Cadbury for what is actually ....so bad I cannot even use the word I want to.

personally i think they bought it to ruin the chocolate.If someone bought cadburys and started selling in america were all chocolate is made with palm oil/vegetable oil people would realise how awful american chocolate is and buy cadburys

Acually Rorty, I am on that panel and have been testing stuff for them and I am very honest with my findings.
In fact, the Easter Egg that DD had to test was made with the old Cadburys, I couldn't believe it! It's like they have a secret factory somewhere.

Cadbury post the usual marketing press release all positive and gushing, and then in pile loads of negative comments from former customers. It's so funny. It's like an actual riot is brewing.
