Here we go again. Had a few issues with neighbours (2 previous posts) starting during my twin pregnancy when I parked legally outside their house, then when their son dumped an untaxed vehicle outside our house.. Bla bla

Just went to take babies to a hospital appointment and they've parked OVER my driveway. Not answering their door even though they are all home. Fuck off.

WIBU to pour paint stripper over it Grin
(Joking!)

My car is the white one, and the space to the right is also my driveway.
Their cars are the grey one which is parked on the road space (hanging way over the dropped kerb) and the 4x4.

I'm already parked as far over as I can (DH car normally parked on other space) without ruining my grass.

Fuckers.

The police would have been able to do something about the way the 4x4 was parked so if that happens again, definitely consider giving them a call.

What selfish people.

Badger, that parking is perfectly normal for Paris. Everyone leaves their handbrakes off and you simply nudge the cars front and behind until you can squeeze out.

shockthemonkey · 23/09/2016 13:57

OP, show them no mercy if they do it again.

Shock are you kidding??! Doesnt everyone's car become terribly damaged?

Report
SistersOfPercy · 23/09/2016 14:06

Shock is correct, I sat in a cafe one afternoon watching people come and go shunting eachothers cars. Very odd.

Of course I'm yet to see a car with a straight panel in Paris so I guess they don't put the same value on their vehicles as we do.

If someone did that to either of our cars I think I'd be ready to murder Grin

Oh and wind, we've just had our dropped kerb extended to widen our drive. Speak to your local highways dept.
In our case they came out, assessed it and quoted £450 which could be paid over 2 years in instalments. Council contractors did the work.

Private contractors can do it but have to pay a fee to the council. There is no planning permission needed as such, just the council fee. Speak to someone else as I think you've been misled there.

Report
SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/09/2016 14:12

Well, if that's the Council's response, I'd be getting my 3rd car out of the garage & parking it on the road slightly overhanging their dropped kerb Wink.

Just to enable your elderly relative to use your garage space of course. Not to be petty. Oh no Grin.

Surely the blue car is entirely blocking the dropped kerb across your drive OP? How can they say It isn't?

Wasn't the 4x4 parked on the pavement? According to 'Dom on the Spot' my guilty pleasure at the mo that is a £100 fine - I guess depending on your local borough.

It does seem that parking in this way, constantly causing a obstruction and inconvenience is a form of harrassment. I wish it was treated as such under the law and that the would be some repercussions if your neighbour was found to be doing this. At least worthy of an Asbo!

I would definitely check the insurance legalities and then move your DH's old car into the spot. Just check that it's okay to get in and leave the handbrake off to move it (so not turning on the engine) doesn't count as driving it! I would get CCTV thought as you may find they escalate by damaging it or by parking completely over your drive. Although hopefully then you will have evidence you can pass on to the police.

If they can still park partially over a dropped curb then I'm not sure extending the dropped curb would be worth it.

On my SIL old road the batty parking lady actually paid someone to come out and paint double yellow lines along the road! You would think this was graffiti and would be removed but amazingly the council decided to keep the lines and enforce them Hmm. I wonder if this would work here given the space isn't actually big enough to fit a car.

Queen, it was an old woman in a battered 2cv that gobsmacked me. She belted the car in front. Parked and came into the cafe. A gentleman was leaving as she came in and they exchanged pleasantries, he then got into the car she'd battered.
He'd been watching her do it as well.
Amazing stuff. It's not like car bumpers are actually designed for that any more.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/09/2016 14:15

Better still, pretend to not know who's car it is. Then eventually admit it is yours with a "it's not very nice to be blocked in by a selfish twat all day is it?" "Oh, it bothers you? I thought you'd be fine with it as it's what you do to me every bloody day!"

I think I am on the side of that pensioner!

Me too (up to a point). It is beyond outrageous that the useless fuckers who just park anywhere they want are the winners in this.

Oh Badgers -that is what my nightmare neighbour used to do to me...he would do it a few times - the police would talk to him (it isn't illegal but it was part of an harassment case) and he would stop for 6 months and start again...
A couple of photos - different cars as it went on for years...

I think if you could get some creepy bollards put in the way so that they can't overhang the curb, it might help

It's odd the council said that about it needing to be fully blocked. One of our neighbours has an on going problem with people parking only about a foot over the edge of her dropped kerb, and the council come out regularly for her to ticket the lazy gits who dump their car before going to the station at the end of the road.

I would phone 101, they can be effective when it comes to parking issues. Where we lived previously our house opened straight on to the street and we were a 5 minute walk from the town centre and cheapskates used to park on our street so they didn't have to pay parking tickets. Some muppet in a flashy gold bmw parked two feet (if that) from my front door, slightly on the pavement (narrow roads and pavements). I struggled to get out (heavily pregnant and crutches) phoned 101 and they said they would get someone to deal with it - wasn't towed (no yellow lines, etc) but they did get a ticket and never parked there again! I would definitely phone 101 and see what can be done - I think you will probably have to go over your grass in this case if you have to get to hospital with the babies (hope they are ok btw)

justilou · 23/09/2016 14:42

Call the police and tell them you have an emergency appointment and you're bleeding. They will tow the car.

Who's he going to call? Grin Well done to DP. I would probably be tempted to block them in aswell as some point over the weekend. And then open all windows, let them knock and ignore them like they have done to you today
