What are your Best and worst famous band names?

It struck me what a crap name 'The Beatles' is for a band. I guess because they are so ubiquitous and influential I'd never considered that their name contains a crap pun on the fact they were a beat group.

Some band names are crap on paper but suit the group - like The Smiths who were going for that whole anti-star vibe, others like Love are okay on paper but are the complete antitheses of what the group are about.

But setting aside the actual qualities of the music or the group, which band names do you like/dislike the most:

I always liked Super Furry Animals - name and band

Yeah that's a good un isn't it.

Good= The Sex Pistols,
Happy Mondays.

Bad= One direction, just an awful awful name.

A bit shit= Massive Attack because their music is so gentle and calming, and not a massive attack.

Always thought Hole was a fantastic band name.

Oasis is a shit name for a band.

Best one is Hole.

Can't get excited about band names - very surprised by what people like and don't. If I like the music I can forgive pretty much any name. Quite a few of my favourite bands are obscure and therefore banned from this list anyway.

Best - Butthole Surfers.
Worse - The The.

Belly - shitest name ever.
Spandau Ballet - made me shudder when I found out its origin.

Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel - dreadful in a good way, or is it good in a dreadful way?

Nirvana - decent name, shite band.

Pulp is a crap name, too.

TheNaze it is isn't it. The football team had the coolest kit in the 1970s (which is why the band named themselves after them I think)

Pulp I like as a band name brings to mind Pulp fiction/Pulp magazines kind of fits with their traahy/glamorous aesthetic.
