I'd clearly make a crap judge.
She's obviously a fab baker, having won star baker twice but I really really hope next week is her last as all of the pouting is driving me potty.
DP thinks it's because she's trying to hide wrinkles around her mouth, which is insane if it's true.
All the ridiculous gurning is giving me The Rage.

Also, thanks to the Mnetter last week who mentioned Paul using "Mary" in every sentence.
Now that's all I hear.

I'm sure she's lovely btw Blush but I do wish shed keep her mouth still!

chopstick as my over investment in this issue demonstrates I'm quite happy for you to be picky.

Chopstick17 · 22/09/2016 14:27

I think we all do Like !!!

HandmaidsTail · 22/09/2016 14:27

I don't know if it is gloating and smuggery.

Remember that really smart girl on University Challenge a few years back? She had quite a smuggish hair-tossing thing going on every time she got a right answer, but actually it was sheer awkwardness and trying to hide her pleasure at having been right.

She was lambasted in the press but then Paxo came out saying back off, it's not smug, it's a young woman, feeling pressured, and trying not to seem too pleased with herself.

Reminds me of this conversation a bit. WISH I could remember her name!

HandmaidsTail · 22/09/2016 14:28

Gail Trimble!

Chopstick17 · 22/09/2016 14:29

Catherine?

squoosh · 22/09/2016 14:31

Well I'm very smug when I get a University Challenge question right. Even if I only get one question right per show.

I wondered whether Candice had had some work done to her face eg to put dimples in (not sure if this is possible)

Yes it is - I did it on a cloth doll once. All you do is put a knot in the thread and then run it from one cheek to the other (quite tight!) and then put another knot in to stop it pulling through. You could probably do your own dimples at home if your weren't squeamish. Save £0000s in plastic surgery fees.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2016 14:32

Except Candice isn't an 18 year old.

And hair tossing isn't the same as playing with your tongue all the time.

I do not want to see Candice poke her tongue out at Paul "playfully". I'm usually eating some nice crumble during Bake Off and don't want to go off my food.

HandmaidsTail · 22/09/2016 14:36

So it's ok to be shy and awkward at 18, but any older and you're manipulating the audience or something? Don't be daft.

My point is that she probably watches herself back and thinks 'why did i keep doing that stupid tongue thing?' and it's probably because she felt awkward having a camera and 20 TV production people watching her every move!

SolomanDaisy · 22/09/2016 14:37

Poor Val, she was lovely. I think Candice is very attractive, but unfortunately she seems to be constantly aware of it, which is irritating.

How odd. DP and I were watching Bake Off last night and we both commented on Candice's lip pouting/gurning type thing that she does.

Brendan was amazing! Bless him and his Black Forest Stollen and other 70's style treats.

squoosh · 22/09/2016 14:44

Lotta how could you have forgotten Brendan! He managed to be simultaneously shadowy of personality and dayglo of cake! Grin

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2016 14:44

Candice seems like a very confident grown up.

Confident grown ups can be knowingly arch and saucy believing it to be deliciously fun, and other confident grown ups can either find it so, or find it bloody annoying and go right off them.

Not sure why you're determined to portray her as a poor ickle nervous lamb. It's a bit demeaning tbh. I don't know her from Adam, but she doesn't strike me as someone who would like to be viewed as so emotionally wobbly that she can't even control her own face.

I'm not actually portraying her as anything, unlike almost every other poster on this thread. I'm saying 'perhaps' she's actually not a smug, flirty, devious, irritating bint who's had secret dimples added to her face.

Elendon · 22/09/2016 14:46

I love a bit of smug, and often get questions right on UC. It's often followed by a wrong answer though.

Her food last night looked delicious but I was wanting some of Benjaminna's, though others were delicious too.

Can't wait to get the cookbook for Christmas/Birthday.

Grin squoosh

I remember him being genuinely overcome with emotion during the final and it was every bit as heart-rending as Nadia's little bit to camera after she won last year

captainfarrell · 22/09/2016 14:53

There was a slightly saucy comment about sausage from Candice last night but it might just be my filthy mind of course!

FlyingElbows · 22/09/2016 14:58

I personally want Candice to go the whole hog and match an evening outfit with the serious evening lippy. Come on Candice get your glad rags on and really go for it!

slightlypeevedwombat · 22/09/2016 15:01

"And yes, Candice is this year's Ruby Tandoh, in that she's a talented baker whose looks and an on-screen manner that isn't 'aw shucks, little old me? Sure I couldn't boil an egg!' seem to be fuelling a rather unpleasant mass dislike. "

no she is though, shes 'oh its not very good...' head tilt, little old me (its probably the editing - although they could edit it if she wasn't doing it) Its the simpering and the faux "i'm so terrible at this, please repeatedly tell me how wonderful you think it is" stuff that annoys me

and btw - the pub looked awful

MrsJayy · 22/09/2016 15:01

I think bake off likes to create characters they see something and go with it so candice has her pout I really like her but dd thinks she looks smug and too pouty,

CalmItKermitt · 22/09/2016 15:02

It was Howard Who Works For The Council who was central to Custardgate.

Norman was a sweet Scottish guy who considered anything with more than minimal flavouring to be exotic.
