I'd clearly make a crap judge.
She's obviously a fab baker, having won star baker twice but I really really hope next week is her last as all of the pouting is driving me potty.
DP thinks it's because she's trying to hide wrinkles around her mouth, which is insane if it's true.
All the ridiculous gurning is giving me The Rage.

Also, thanks to the Mnetter last week who mentioned Paul using "Mary" in every sentence.
Now that's all I hear.

I'm sure she's lovely btw Blush but I do wish shed keep her mouth still!

Leave Candice alone .

Heaven forfend a woman bakes well, dresses well, looks good and gasp, wears bright lipstick ..

Best bring her down a peg or two ladies ..

I despair.

squoosh · 22/09/2016 13:44

This years contestants are all pretty average. I think the line up they actually picked must have got wiped out in some tragic exploding Kitchen Aid incident and they had to scrabble around for this lot to fill their places.

squoosh · 22/09/2016 13:45

I wear bright lipstick every day. And I find Candice annoying.

She probably bakes better than me though.

DerelictMyBalls · 22/09/2016 13:51

They do all seem a bit second-rate this year, don't they, squoosh? No-one really stands out as consistently brilliant like they have in the last few years.

HeyNannyNanny · 22/09/2016 13:51

Isn't it sexist to presume that people are commenting about a woman because they are sexist?

Maybe it's a good thing it's going to C4... it'll die a death because of that rather than just getting disappointing and eventually fizzle out?

'No-one really stands out as consistently brilliant like they have in the last few years.'

No there's no wow contestant is there? I suppose Jane is the strongest but not by a country mile. I think back to my beloved Brendan and I really miss that evil little guy and his 1970's creations.

Or the prison governor man last year who made that amazing lion out of loaves of bread! There's none of that this year.

slightlypeevedwombat · 22/09/2016 13:54

she's this years 'Ruby' - "oh its not very good...." ergh

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/09/2016 13:56

Mary Berry is a professional presenter and therefore is fair game.

Candace is a member of the public who is there for a competition and therefore, whilst people may or may not like her, most people have only cited her facial expressions and her makeup. Her main fault is that she is young.

I'm sure Saint Mary Berry has her shit ton of money to make her feel better when someone is 'mean' about her. I made the comment about plastic surgery because she seems to be going all out to look younger and younger every year - it's a little bit sad.

lostincumbria · 22/09/2016 13:56

Love Candice. She's funny and rude - one of the few contestants to take on the hosts at tge double-entendre disco.

'Mary Berry is a professional presenter and therefore is fair game.'

Logic and consistency not your strong points?

HandmaidsTail · 22/09/2016 13:58

Um, no. It's disingenuous to actually do it though, then claim you're not.

It's cool, just own it. I'm not the thread police. I'm allowed to disagree though.

DerelictMyBalls · 22/09/2016 14:01

I must keep all these rules in mind next time I am deciding who to like and dislike off the telly.

Soubriquet · 22/09/2016 14:02

Come on! How can you not like Candice?

She got Mary to say she would love to eat a bit of carpet Grin

DerelictMyBalls · 22/09/2016 14:02

I suppose Jane is the strongest

Jane? There is a contestant called Jane? Which one is she?

Obviously, I am a massive sexist for not having noticed her.

NewPotatoes · 22/09/2016 14:02

Exactly! Why are double entendres about sausages and jugs and phallic black puddings OK when the presenters do it, but attention-seeking when one of the competitors joins in?

And yes, Candice is this year's Ruby Tandoh, in that she's a talented baker whose looks and an on-screen manner that isn't 'aw shucks, little old me? Sure I couldn't boil an egg!' seem to be fuelling a rather unpleasant mass dislike.

I agree about it not being a stellar lineup compared to previous years, and I do mourn Brendan whose weird 70s creations were a total joy. And was it adorable Norman who was no noble about Custard!gate, and who tragically hasn't been on An Extra Slice yet this season?

NewPotatoes · 22/09/2016 14:02

Normal was SO noble about Custard!gate. Duh.

squoosh · 22/09/2016 14:02

You're allowed to be rude about a presenter but you're not allowed to be rude about a contestant. Or something.

RunnyRattata · 22/09/2016 14:03

I watched one episode of this near the beginning and I knew exactly who the OP meant in the thread title without even knowing that contestant's nameGrin
She's got the whole duck pout thing off to a fine art.

NewPotatoes · 22/09/2016 14:03

NORMAN!!! I'm stopping now. My keyboard is possessed.

Stormtreader · 22/09/2016 14:03

Candice, Benjamina and Andrew are my picks for finals, although one of the guys at work knows Andrews mum so I may be a bit biased on that one!

And I cheered when Val went, I felt there was a lot of "well theyve asked for this, but Im going to do that instead because thats what I do at home". I liked her before but that smug self-satisfaction just got to me this week.

LaurieMarlow · 22/09/2016 14:03

I love Candice and she is 100% my pick for the win. And fair play to her if she does get a media career off the back of it.

squoosh · 22/09/2016 14:04

I'd forgotten about Norman. He was so lovely.

'I'm really going to spice things up this week. I'm using raspberry jam instead of strawberry in my Victoria sponge'.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/09/2016 14:05

Look we get it, you love MB and won't have a word said against her. Are you actually MB? You seem very defensive of her to anyone who dares to say anything negative, to the point of pulling me on something I said on another thread - isn't that rather bad form? Smile

She's incredibly smug and patronising - that's the main reason I don't like her.

But let's rip into a member of the public for how she looks because well that's okay.
