to ask if there is a chocolate bar which tastes like the old Cadbury Dairy Milk

I know, I know Dairy Milk was never the bastion of amazing chocolate if you're a fuss pot but I REALLY enjoyed the occasional bar of DM or Fruit & Nut.
They've changed it, filled it full of palm oil and it tastes like a bag of cat shit (sorry MN I know you work with them but they've ruined chocolate). I've searched high and low to find an alternative and nothing is the same.
All other milk chocolate (be it supermarket own, Milka, Lindt, whatever) it all tastes like cheap advent calendar chocolate.

I REALLY, REALLY miss Dairy Milk, it was such a smooth treat and now it is gone. And unless it's some kind of elaborate scam where they hide away the good stuff for a few years, pump out shite and then reissue the old stuff as "traditional" recipe at double the price, then I don't think we will see it again.

Is there anything the same or very, very similar? Please help. Chocolate

I agree that Cadbury chocolate is now utterly foul but someone must still be buying it? I wonder what the sales are like. It must have been worth the trade off to them.

SlitherAdict · 23/09/2016 06:32

I'd not had a dairy milk bar for ages, it is the only chocolate I like(d). Then dd bought me one a few days ago and I mentioned to dp how it tastes weird and doesn't sit in the mouth as it used to (I can't bite chocolate, has to melt in mouth) Very sad as like I say its the only chocolate I could eat :( Is there a petition to bring the old recipe back?

scarednoob · 23/09/2016 06:37

Fuck the new dairy milk. Esp the smaller bars for the same price that they try to pass off as "improved mouth feel". What the fuck is "mouth feel"? That's not a thing.

Tesco sells NZ dairy milk in exotic flavours, it's much more like it used to be. However it is about £5 a bar (they are large bars).

Mummyyummy2012 · 23/09/2016 06:43

Have you tried Divine chocolate OP- its amazing! Their choc orange is the nicest ever- think they might be quite a small company- all fairtrade etc- Google them!

SlowComfortableShrew · 23/09/2016 06:49

Lindt extra creamy is nice

tanfield90 · 23/09/2016 08:34

Milka chocolate bars are 50p in Morrisons at the moment. They're pretty good. Also Morrisons own brand chocolate is excellent value. I'm fairly certain neither of these contain palm oil. In fact Morrisons plain chocolate contains more cocoa solids than Bournville.

JolieColombe · 23/09/2016 10:30

Not a bar, but Droste chocolate pastilles are delicious, and (checking online) don't appear to contain palm oil. I always used to ask family to bring some back when they visited the Netherlands, but I've just seen it's available on Amazon! Looks like the most cost-effective way is to buy the multipacks, oh dear SmileSmileSmile

ginghamstarfish · 23/09/2016 10:31

I think LIdl and Aldi choc doesn't have palm oil - we currently love Aldi's Rich Milk Chocolate, 45% I think, like a cross between dark and milk.

ginghamstarfish · 23/09/2016 10:32

Sorry meant Lidl's Rich Milk Chocolate .. but they're all good!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/09/2016 11:43

I am a big fan of all of Aldi chocolate, the white choc tastes like milky bar used to years ago and the milk one with strawberry bits is just mmmmm.

FunkinEll · 23/09/2016 11:47

I thought whispa was quite similar to old school cadbury's when I tried one the other day.

EdmundCleverClogs · 23/09/2016 11:48

Has anyone tried the Dairy Milk Toffee Big Taste? The toffee makes the chocolate really creamy - unfortunately they only seem to come in huge bars....

Nigglenaggle · 23/09/2016 11:50

I thought it was just me! Cadburys if you are watching, please change it back!

BumpAndGrind · 23/09/2016 12:32

Irish coke is nicer too.

I'm moving to Ireland.

Sgtmajormummy · 23/09/2016 12:48

In Ikea they sell a tube of Rolo style milk chocolates in a yellow wrapper. I think it's called Marabou. I'll check. Very creamy.

Sgtmajormummy · 23/09/2016 12:54

Here you go.
You do NOT want the Ikea chocolate bar that they found human waste in. That's in a white wrapper Confused.

If you're willing to travel, I can recommend this Italian chocolate, made with "real cream and pure cocoa". It's in every supermarket.

Galaxy is the only chocolate that still hits the spot for me these days and manages to be creamy without being sickly. Unfortunately it is not to be found in mainland Europe, so I have to stock up whenever I'm in the UK!

DangerousBeanz · 23/09/2016 13:14

I've airways preferred Galaxy to Cadburys, but agree that Aldi chocolate is lovely.

But palm oil in chocolate? ????? WTAF !!!!!

FoxesOnSocks · 23/09/2016 13:21

In Ireland I think the smaller bars are the best. I've done tests on this (due to being selfless) and the bigger bars have changed, it's the small bar you want.

Get a cheap Ryan air flight. Bulk buy up to 11kg: remember smaller bars.

greynunu · 23/09/2016 13:23

Earlier this week I was delighted to discover Freddo frogs still taste like old Dairy Milk. So delighted, in fact, that I devoured a whole multi pack that was actually given to DS and I had stashed away for not so safe keeping Blush

Elphame · 23/09/2016 13:30

The only good thing about Cadbury's ruining their chocolate is that I now don't eat chocolate! I notice Cadbury's now seem to be on permanent offer in the supermarkets. I really hope the sales have crashed.

Tangfastics · 23/09/2016 13:47

Ooh thanks for the tip MakeItStopNeville

I've just moved to the states so will make a point of trying trader joe's chocolate!

Have you tried their infamous 'two buck chuck'?

BarbaraofSeville · 23/09/2016 18:56

Lol at all the chocolate smuggling from Ireland and people stalking the foreign aisles in British supermarkets looking for old style Cadburys amongst the Polish sausage and bulk bags of spices.

mysistersimone · 23/09/2016 19:03

I think Cadburys Easter eggs taste good, I binge on them once a year, creamy like their choc used to be
