to ask if there is a chocolate bar which tastes like the old Cadbury Dairy Milk

I know, I know Dairy Milk was never the bastion of amazing chocolate if you're a fuss pot but I REALLY enjoyed the occasional bar of DM or Fruit & Nut.
They've changed it, filled it full of palm oil and it tastes like a bag of cat shit (sorry MN I know you work with them but they've ruined chocolate). I've searched high and low to find an alternative and nothing is the same.
All other milk chocolate (be it supermarket own, Milka, Lindt, whatever) it all tastes like cheap advent calendar chocolate.

I REALLY, REALLY miss Dairy Milk, it was such a smooth treat and now it is gone. And unless it's some kind of elaborate scam where they hide away the good stuff for a few years, pump out shite and then reissue the old stuff as "traditional" recipe at double the price, then I don't think we will see it again.

Is there anything the same or very, very similar? Please help. Chocolate

Sainsburys own brand choc is very nice . i recently tried their dark chocolate.

londonrach · 21/09/2016 04:05

Agree with you re lindt. Dont understand why anyone eats it its tastes very sweet and vvv cheap. Sadly in the uk there isnt any nice chocolate now. I wont even mention thorntons as i dont view it as chocolate. 😒. Seriously, even hotel chocolate which apart from being over priced is very bitter and should only be used gor cooking with and its inedible. The biggest loss in chocolate being terrys dark chocolate orange. I cried when they left york as its a shadow of its former self. Best chocolate is duman in brugges. Strangely the sicily chocolate very nice too. Oh for my childhood when daily milk and terrys chocolate orange tasted so good.

Babasaclover · 21/09/2016 04:13

You can get the Irish Cadburys in the foreign food aisle at Tesco. They do interesting stuff too

I'm with you on this - how gross is Cadbury caramel these days

catsmother · 21/09/2016 04:14

Totally agree with you about Cadburys ..... it tastes different and feels different in your mouth. Horrid.

The giant buttons, though I haven't had any recently, were the only thing which seemed to still have that 'old' flavour/texture combination.

katemess12 · 21/09/2016 04:22

No suggestions, unfortunately. The current chocolate is foul.

Darrell Lea is Australian, but amazing. The chocolate orange balls are particularly good. if you can track some down online, at least try it. Smile

Otherwise, I just buy M&Ms or Maltesers or a particular "kind" of chocolate now, as opposed to plain chocolate. Cannot stomach the current shit that is Cadbury.

dontevenblink · 21/09/2016 04:47

I live in New Zealand and the Cadburys chocolate is awful here too, so sickly, sorry to hear they've changed the recipe in the UK now. I love Whittakers chocolate here, which obviously isn't much help to you, but I've been doing a bit of googling and you can get some in the UK productsfromnz.comsearch?do_submit=1&minprice=0&maxprice=99999&words=whittakers+
Presumably there are more places too. I can't find the 33% chocolate though which is my favourite, lots of the peanut slabs though. I am now going to have to go buy some though...Grin

MakeItStopNeville · 21/09/2016 04:58

Come to the US and get Trader Joe's 100 calorie milk chocolate bars. I swear they taste just like old Cadburys!

Boomerwang · 21/09/2016 05:13

Babasclover funny you mention that, what the hell happened to the Caramel bar? Many years ago I bought the giant size bar (came in a range with things like turkish delight) and was expecting the gooey, near-liquid sweet caramel but I got something which was closer to fudge? Very disappointed.

Everything keeps changing... Pringles used to have a crunch but now I notice they are made with two very thin layers with air inside to make them look bigger than they are, and they disintegrate rather than crunch.

Sugarcoma · 21/09/2016 06:33

I hate the shape of it too - what is with the stupid curved squares now?

Sugarcoma · 21/09/2016 06:34

*I'm one of those weird people who thinks the shape of chocolate affects the taste - Cadbury's chocolate bunnies used to be the tastiest thing ever!

Zame · 21/09/2016 07:46

I regularly think about how sad it Ian that I can no longer enjoy cadburys chocolate,I used to love it sooooo much.
They shouldn't call it chocolate anymore. It should just be called 'brown', tastes of nothing, not worth the calories

Zame · 21/09/2016 07:46

How sad it *is, not Ian

Branleuse · 21/09/2016 07:53

green and blacks almond chocolate is an absolute treat. I agree with you about dairy milk. It used to be amazing, and the last bar I tried was just weird. I wondered if it had been stored wrong in the shop, but it looks like theyve just changed the recipe, and now it tastes vile.

RIP fruit n nut

Lara145 · 21/09/2016 09:26

whittikers chocolate is amazing, I love the hazlenut one!

Housewife2010 · 22/09/2016 15:51

Cadburys Twirls are supposed to be the original recipe.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 22/09/2016 15:58

I can still enjoy a Twirl, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before they chan ge them as well ...

blueturtle6 · 22/09/2016 16:00

YABVU, I suddenly having craving for a twirl

liz70 · 22/09/2016 16:02

Cadbury's may as well be Hersey's now - it's the same shite. Forget it. If you're just after milk or plain without filling or nuts etc, Asda Smartprice is made with cocoa butter and milk powder - no palm or vegetable oil.

toffee1000 · 22/09/2016 22:52

Am I the only one who hasn't noticed a difference in taste at all?? Granted I don't eat bars of Dairy Milk that often (if I do eat chocolate it tends to be a Crunchie), but when I do there's no difference. Maybe it's just my taste buds IDK.

Timeforabiscuit · 22/09/2016 22:57

Twirl or morrisons sea salt and almond chocolate is incredible.

Have considered a holiday in Ireland just to stock up, not for me though, i need to educate my kids on what chocolate is meant to taste like or they might fall for that hershey rubbish shudder

Blondieblondie · 22/09/2016 23:02

I've long prefered Galaxy to Dairy Milk, but I had Wispa yesterday and struggled to finish it. It was rotten Sad

HelenaDove · 22/09/2016 23:25

Sainsburys do their dark chocolate in fruit and nut as well for anyone here who misses fruit and nut. They also do their milk choc with caramel crisp.

OutOfBlueComesGreen · 22/09/2016 23:29

I had a wispa this week. It was foul.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/09/2016 02:36

I agree on the Wispas. Tastes awful. Twirls taste rank too. Cunting fuckfaces messing with my chocolate.

chicknquack · 23/09/2016 06:23

They messed with Maltesers? ::crying::

Every now and again I pay a fortune for imported ones (I live in the US). What am I going to do now?
