To think the BBC should have put the Paralympic team returning first on the news like the Olympic team?

When the Olympic team returned they were the first thing on the One o clock news. When the Paralympic team returned it wasn't on till 1.20pm. It seems so unfair!

I agree. Especially as some of them are massively better than the Olympians!

MrsJayy · 20/09/2016 14:34

Was like 1 of those aww feel good stories wasn't it annoyed me to considering paraGB did better than olympic GB

AGreatBigWorld · 20/09/2016 15:00

To me it made me feel that the BBC didn't think they were as important which of course they are! Angry

I wonder if it was linked to the main Paralympic broadcaster bring channel four.

^ this.

Chanel 4 didn't run hpurs of programmes about the Olympians coming home either.

I think you'll find it's down to who has tv rights etc.

DiegeticMuch · 20/09/2016 15:03

Absolute Radio led with this story on their lunchtime bulletin, which was pleasing.

phillipp · 20/09/2016 15:15

It was on ITV this morning. They had a correspondent at the airport.

I believe the Paralympic team landed much earlier in the day than the Olympic team did. That may account for why it wasn't on the lunchtime news.

Then add in the fact that it wasn't on BBC so they won't really give it much coverage. Like channel four didn't when it was the olympics.

Did you see the early morning BBC news?

AGreatBigWorld · 20/09/2016 15:19

I did wonder about whether it was to do with the broadasting rights
It should still have been first on the news!!

There was a fair amount of coverage on BBC Breakfast this morning.

PikachuSayBoo · 20/09/2016 15:47

Itt was massive on bbc breakfast this morning. They were tracking the plane on flight radar, interviewing fans and pundits waiting at the airport, interviewing Johhny peacock in the studio.

ohgoodlordthatsmoist · 20/09/2016 15:48

Was it not the case that when the Olympians came back it was a bit of Non news day, a bit like when then headlines are a recent survey has shown xxxxx

Well done to all athletes though.

MrsJayy · 20/09/2016 15:49

Pp are probably right its more to do with broadcasting rights

GirlOverboard · 20/09/2016 15:50

Maybe it was a quieter news day when the Olympians returned? I certainly don't think the Paralympians should be given the top slot just because the Olympians were. That's not how the news works.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/09/2016 15:51

I definitely think that the Paralympic team were way better than their mainstream counterparts, they were absolutely awsome! I was very disappointed with the tv coveredge of it, I turned onto BBC at the time they would be landing, no broadcasting. None from the other channels, whereas the other Olympics, it was everywhere.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 20/09/2016 15:52

To be fair, Olympians or Paralympians getting on a plane and getting off at the end shouldn't be headline news. The games have finished, I think we can take it as read that they'd get home somehow.

PurpleDaisies · 20/09/2016 15:54

Do you mean the homecoming or the whole games? I thought changed four did an excellent job again.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/09/2016 15:56

No the coverage of the whole games was really good, and Team GB Paralympic team were amazing and awsome. The homecoming coverage was disappointing. I tried to You tube it, nothing, there is lots on the mainstream Olympic Team homecoming, bloody disgraceful!

PansyGiraffe · 20/09/2016 15:58

I thought Channel 4 did a great job over the Games. I

BarbarianMum · 20/09/2016 15:59

If you are complaining that the return of the paralympic team had to give way to reports of a Syrian aid convoy being bombed then yes YAB v fucking U. What was the lead story?

PurpleDaisies · 20/09/2016 16:03

I think what's going on in Syria today is more important than some sportspeople getting off a plane, whether they are able-bodied or not.

I agree wholeheartedly. I missed the lunchtime news today-was that the lead? I'd be amazed if any athlete would want to be lead story regardless of what else is going on in the world.

AGreatBigWorld · 20/09/2016 16:06

I missed the first story as i hadnt got home from work!

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 20/09/2016 16:11

On the website it's the second story behind the bombed aid convoy-as it should be.

UsernameHistory · 20/09/2016 16:14

I definitely think that the Paralympic team were way better than their mainstream counterparts

Why?

MoreCoffeeNow · 20/09/2016 16:19

I'm even less interested in the Paralympics than the Olympics - both should be way down the news bulletin, imo. As should all sport.

Sick of all the sport coverage over the summer.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/09/2016 16:19

user because they have to be at the same standard if not better than their mainstream althletes, despite their disabilities. It was amazing to watch them achieve what they have achieved.
