To ask my fellow mumsnetters to find me a home?!

I know I probably am being unreasonable to ask random people on the Internet to find me a home but I am at a loss so hoping for some advice, inspiration and ideas (or for Kirsty and Phil to read this thread 😄)

So, we live in the south east, 20 mins outside of London. 2 children, 2 and 3 and twins on the way. Same sex couple. We would love somewhere with land (not a farm but an acre or 2) and to be close to somewhere vibrant / cultural. Must be an open minded non villagey feel as we grew up being the only gays in our neighbouring northern villages many years ago! We love the south east but it's way too expensive to buy what we need. Basically we would want a lovely property with some land just outside Brighton but we are not millionaires! So, anyone recommend where they live that fulfils any of these criteria? So far thinking maybe countryside near Manchester or Cheshire but really no idea! Thanks everyone in advance (goes back to wasting time on rightmove looking at properties way out of our price range and wondering if it is possible to get any more ginormous than 39 weeks pregnant with twins....)

Come to Wales, but live near Cardiff. You can fly to London for £55. We've lots of countryside...

I was just about to suggest Hebden Bridge, but it'd be a bit 'cancel the cheque' at this point.

Pisssssedofff · 21/09/2016 21:58

My advice is stay south it's hard to buy back near London if you move north. We only went from
The midlands to Cheshire and im struggling to buy in bloody Birmingham because of the price difference

I know you said you're not sure about the North East, but if you want land and commute-able what about north County Durham. Can be in commute distance of Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham and you should get a fair bit for your budget.

Only thing I would say is check out the buses to places you like if you don't want to be a taxi for four children when they're older. Grin

Come to the north east!

Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/60331943

Congratulations!
Norwich is a fab city for bringing up a family. Safe and reasonably compact but with vibrant arts scene and plentiful good restaurants/cafes, excellent shopping. Easy to reach stunning coast. Only a couple of hours by train to London. Reasonably multicultural (for E Anglia), with university and arts college. Will definitely be something in your price range in one of the nearby villages I'm sure.

My brother lives near Tarporley - I don;t know it but it's handy for Chester. How about this?

Lake oakmere is ok - a bit of A non entity place - no shops/pubs close.
Op needs to look closer to Tarporley

What a great thread!

Lots of property porn and twins!

Next we hear from the OP she'll be safely ensconced in Hebden Bridge in her new home Grin
