To ask my fellow mumsnetters to find me a home?!

I know I probably am being unreasonable to ask random people on the Internet to find me a home but I am at a loss so hoping for some advice, inspiration and ideas (or for Kirsty and Phil to read this thread 😄)

So, we live in the south east, 20 mins outside of London. 2 children, 2 and 3 and twins on the way. Same sex couple. We would love somewhere with land (not a farm but an acre or 2) and to be close to somewhere vibrant / cultural. Must be an open minded non villagey feel as we grew up being the only gays in our neighbouring northern villages many years ago! We love the south east but it's way too expensive to buy what we need. Basically we would want a lovely property with some land just outside Brighton but we are not millionaires! So, anyone recommend where they live that fulfils any of these criteria? So far thinking maybe countryside near Manchester or Cheshire but really no idea! Thanks everyone in advance (goes back to wasting time on rightmove looking at properties way out of our price range and wondering if it is possible to get any more ginormous than 39 weeks pregnant with twins....)

I live near Tarporley. You don't necessarily need the land as always fields etc to rent and stables to
House the horses.
The first property I posted in here was near Tarporley. Bars, restaurants, food schools and gorgeous countryside ....

Hoppinggreen · 19/09/2016 21:01

How about Hebden Bridge or the rest of The Calder Valley?
Flooding an issue in some areas but very diverse and while more expensive than some other bits of West Yorks it's much cheaper than down South.

trufflehunterthebadger · 19/09/2016 21:09

This is also rather delightful, same area

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Flowers
Hope you and your beautiful babies are well

Welshmaenad · 21/09/2016 18:26

Congratulations on the arrival of the twins!

Wales is nice Wink

I would look somewhere in the northern outskirts of Cardiff - Creigiau (you say this cry-ger to rhyme with tiger) or Peterston -Super-Ely, or most of the Vale of Glamorgan would be good options (look at Cowbridge, Dinas Powys/St Andrews/Michaelston-le-pit, Sully, Pontyclun, Wenvoe. Villages yes but very open minded (we've just sold my dads house in one of these villages to a same sex couple and everyone's very excited to welcome them.)

Cardiff is amazing with so much to do/see and a really thriving arts scene.

Congratulations!

I drive past this house every weekend 1.25 acres and planning permission! Just outside Birmingham but pretty

soundsystem · 21/09/2016 20:19

I was confirm on to say Hebden Bridge but see I've been beaten to it by many others. From your OP it sounds like a good fit though!

WowserBowser · 21/09/2016 20:24

Im from Tarporley. My Dad still lives there. I find it weird to see it mentioned ever.

Anyhoo! Congratulations on your twins!! Details please Smile

AdaLovelacesCat · 21/09/2016 20:28

West Wales - you would get a mansion and land.
make sure you get a place that is up a track with no near neighbours. Not because of what you said, but because in the country everyone wants to know your business, and if they dont know anything, they will make it up.
I honestly think attitudes to gay people have radically changed in recent years.

AdaLovelacesCat · 21/09/2016 20:29

oh and you can get cheap horses and ponies as well!
Hay is a terrible price though.

Crazycatladyloz82 · 21/09/2016 20:40

this one is close to Brighton

How about this - lovely village, easy to get to Birmingham or Oxford, nearby rail line to London

Less land closer to Birmingham

Gorgeous in an amazing setting

roseteapot101 · 21/09/2016 21:35

Vixster99 · 21/09/2016 21:37

I was just coming on to post this one, just as an example of how far your money can go in certain areas.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-40196508.html

Between Ashton-Under-Lyme and Oldham easy reach of Manchester. Already has stables.

Its not on mains drainage, which would put me off!

I suspect that it might also be on one of the potential routes of the new trans-pennine road (IF they ever build it!) but it goes to show that there are lots of lovely little unspoilt areas to the east of Manchester that never get considered.

Optimist3 · 21/09/2016 21:40

Lovely! Two cuddly babies
