To feel gutted I have spent my birthday alone and with no birthday wishes..

Today is my birthday and it's been dreadful, I only have a handful of " friends" ( lost a lot of " friends" after I got diagnosed with a Chronic illness) and I see family when it suits them.

AIBU to feel gutted that i have not received one " Happy Birthday" and after inviting family over for a catch up and a slice of cake no one has turned up?

Or should I just brush it off and get on with it because I am a grown adult and birthdays are no longer important?

Currently sat here feeling sorry for myself with a take away and a very large slice of cake.

lonely - sorry about what happened. YADNBU - it is rude and inconsiderate not to acknowledge someone's birthday whether or not they are an adult.

Would you be able to set up a treat for yourself on one of the next few days? Maybe go out for tea or get a really special meal.

Really sorry you've had a rubbish time. Happy Birthday! I like the suggestion made up thread for next year - make a plan that doesn't involve the rellies who didn't bother turning up. Do you have friends who you enjoy doing stuff with?

It's my birthday today too (so Happy Birthday again birthday twin!) and it was pretty crap because OH is away, I'm exhausted from long illness and kids were demanding and irritable. All day. I'm not competing for most rubbish birthday (!) just that I know how crap it can be, even when we're all growed up. I would have come and had cake with you instead like a shot.

I have had some horrible birthdays. Been dumped on important date, had ex being nasty on another, had work day when no-one remembered when I was on list and I had celebrated with others.

Can you invite friends around another night and say it's for your just past birthday?
