To feel gutted I have spent my birthday alone and with no birthday wishes..

Today is my birthday and it's been dreadful, I only have a handful of " friends" ( lost a lot of " friends" after I got diagnosed with a Chronic illness) and I see family when it suits them.

AIBU to feel gutted that i have not received one " Happy Birthday" and after inviting family over for a catch up and a slice of cake no one has turned up?

Or should I just brush it off and get on with it because I am a grown adult and birthdays are no longer important?

Currently sat here feeling sorry for myself with a take away and a very large slice of cake.

Happy birthday!! For my 30th, my family also completely ignored it and I had no greetings from anyone at all on the day, except someone at my bank who noticed the day on my account details! I was upset a lot, especially at my friends, but like someone said above, i have treated myself on each birthday since and this really helps.

Hello Lonely, sorry you are feeling a bit sad.

It's actually my birthday today as well. I also have a chronic condition and sometimes it feels a bit worse when you feel you should feel all special ( thanks for that FB) and instead you are just the same. Also sorry your family let you down. I've just treated myself to some nice underwear from M&S as its 20% off this weekend.
