To ask what the best advice you've ever been given is?

Just that really. Following on from the "worst advice on Mumsnet" thread-what is the best advice you've ever been given (real life or Mumsnet)?

When diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of twenty, my Mum said 'get up, get under the shower and get going'. Felt a bit harsh at the time, but thirty five years on I reckon it is the best advice in most circumstances. I followed that and am far more mobile than many others, and a lot more resilient than others I know.

That's exactly the kind of advice my parents would give me! I had a c section with DD and my dad (who has had major abdominal surgery) told me to "get up and walk as much as you can comfortably". It really worked for me.

My Mum has always been a very strong women and the day I married DH she said, Never rely on your husband for money always be able to support yourself!
Me and dh have been together 20 years and I have always had the means to pay for myself

Sparkle my mum never told me that, she'd be more inclined to say the opposite.

I was getting upset over conflicting advice from different health visitors when taking DD (PFB) to be weighed, my Mum advised me not to bother going unless I had to for vaccinations etc - I never looked back!

My Grandpa said when I was a younger, you're less likely to regret the things you do than the things you don't do, I've always remembered that one and on the whole he's been right.

In real life.... "what other people think of you is none of your business".

It's an extremely freeing piece of advice! Instant sense of empowerment.

I always wish I could be a source of wise advice for my kids but I always seem to say the wrong thing at the crucial moment or burble on so long they've wandered off!

My Dad always says " if you don't even try you will never know"

I open my my own business based on that saying, I was scared as it was such a big thing but I just had to see what would happen. Luckily it all worked out we've now been open 2 years.

I think mine was "You either grow together, or you grow apart". It was an old manager of mine and it's always stayed with me. At the time I was in a fairly dysfunctional relationship and it made me see how far we were from what I wanted to be so I ended things.

If you've ever felt intimidated in any situation, think of the people involved having a pee. Everyone has to Smile. Best advice I've ever had!

My older sister gave me this advice about men - don't listen to what they say, look at what they do. Wise words.

My lovely granny always said " If you want something you work hard at it and don't stop until you get it" I am at work top level in my job and I credit that to granny's saying

The best advice I hope I've give my DD 15 years old is, To not let anything or anyone stop her from being whatever she wants to be. My little DD already kicks ass so I think she'll be ok in adulthood

My Nan gives the best advice about men, one is;

"If you need to exhaust yourself chasing after him, imagine how exhausting it will be once with him"

Also another;

"Never trust a man who will sell you the world, on a silver plate, no good man is a sales man" 😂

My mum once told me

"If you have an itch, then scratch it. Unless it's a bite, then leave it alone"

I always took this to mean grab opportunities when they're presented to you and don't let life or society hold you back. But she could have just been talking about itches...

I got a 'you physically cant look back and forward at the same time.' Something about dwelling in the past stopping you moving forward. Stuck with me. Works pretty good.
