Just that really. Following on from the "worst advice on Mumsnet" thread-what is the best advice you've ever been given (real life or Mumsnet)?

Be yourself.

SpookyPotato · 18/09/2016 22:09

Another oldie.. Comparison is the thief of joy. Such a simple short line but with a huge meaning that saves so much angst.

Loving this thread Smile

The trouble is, you think you have time.

areyoubeingserviced · 18/09/2016 22:22

Bit crude
My aunt used to say that when you feel intimidated by someone , remember that their shit don't taste sweeter than yours

cece · 18/09/2016 22:23

My dad always used to say

who wants to be the richest man in the graveyard?

when I find things difficult I always return to

it will pass

Let go of anger
Let go of hate
Love simply
Give more
Expect less.
There are the 5 rules to happiness. I read it some where and for some reason I can actually remember it! I remind my self when life gets too much.

Live not love simplyGrin

God grant me the power to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Never turn down an opportunity to use the toilet.

MagikarpetRide · 18/09/2016 22:54

You can't change other people but you can change how you react to them.

On diets and eating healthy, you can have:

  • what you want
  • when you want
  • as much as you want
Now pick 2.

And definitely this - Admit it - Fix it - Move on - saves a ton of trouble and stops you being held to ransom by those who want to remind you of your many many mistakes and faults .

StarterFinisher · 18/09/2016 23:24

Procrastination is the thief of time

Moanranger · 18/09/2016 23:24

From my grandmother-always have your own money - a rule I followed for which I was extremely grateful when I got divorced.
Also, -you shall know the truth & the truth will set you free - which I live by & gives me great solace when I am surrounded by bullshit

The best music... is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with.

“Windows are for cheaters, Chimneys for the poor, Closets are for hangers, Winners use the door”

"We learned more from a three-minute record than we ever learn in school"

“God have mercy on the man who doubts what he’s sure of”

Bruce Springsteen

And one from my mum......

Face your fears! Never forgotten it...... although it's not proving too helpful during this dreadful spider season Hmm

My recent light bulb moment - you don't 'have' to speak to anyone.

Being a bit of an introvert I used to run over conversations in my head - 'Remember to ask about her holiday/baby/new car/ bad cold..........'
'What was the best bit about my holiday/ trip/ course.....' (to tell in an amusing/interesting way)
'What's the latest on the holiday rota/ new staff member/ anything under the sun that I felt would get the conversation going.

Now I don't plan anything, I don't say much mind you but it's such a relief not to care.
I'm just a quiet person (unless talking about what actually matters to me)

Every day is a special day. I remember that and now use that soap, wine towel, dress i was keeping for a special day.

I quite like, and fail try to remember "You can be right or you can be kind".

Useful for the days of competitive tiredness with small DC. I'm terrible for having to have the last word so I try and use this one.
