Love bites!

Now me and DH went into a well franchised food place in the UK, the young server tottered over to our table and had the biggest love bite on her neck, no attempt at covering it or anything. Now I think it's pretty tacky to have a server dealing with customers when they have a love bite on their neck and should be out in the back, my DH thinks it's no big deal and I was being old fashioned.

It wouldn't affect their ability to do the job at all but it is unsightly and naff, pisses me off that no one seems to tie their hair back any more when handling food.

It's just a mark on a skin. It's not infectious, it won't fall off and land in your food, it won't jump off the skin and scream boo in your face.

I think they look hideous. I once dumped a bloke for giving me a lovebite. At the time, I was working in a professional environment and it would most certainly have been frowned upon by my employers. Luckily I was able to hide it with high collars and scarves. Not sure what you expected your server to do about it though? Make up wouldn't have made much difference and presumably she was wearing a uniform so the high collar/scarf option wasn't a possibility?

Never once said it affected her job ability, she was a shit waitresses but that wasn't down to the love bite.
just interested in other people's views
derek haha I'm pretty sure it was a love bite, overheard her telling another worker she had a good night with a date and her co worker sort of stroked it and laughed and said so that's where the came from. Although I could be wrong!

Well I don't think love bites look nice either but YABU. I don't like tattoos or those big spacer earrings either but it doesn't mean that the person isn't entirely competent to do their job.

Why should the girl lose her earning for that shift? It doesn't impact your service.

You were in a "franchised" restaurant not fine dining.

You said that they should be out the back rather than serving food, no? Did I miss read that? If not surely that is you saying it affects their job?

I don't like them, never had one or given one but it wouldn't bother me if someone did have one.

I don't think that it should be a sackable offence, but it needs to be one that gets a warning. It's part of having a 'smart appearance', which is in all Serving job adverts.

As for "working out back", that's putting down kitchen workers (on whatever level), they need to be skilled and have knowledge of hygiene etc.

because at one food place I worked that was the rule, you was hung over/been in a fight/love bites it was in the back for you.
amelia with other people's opinions on this topic im confused as to what it's got to do wth the fact I was in a franchised place over fine dining?
Looks like DH was right and I was being a snob! Now would IBU not too tell him he was right Grin

I think they look horrible and can't believe people are saying they are fineConfused I work in a hospital and I can't imagine one of the matrons or consultants coming into work and dealing with patients with a big love bite on their neck. What about a police officer, news presenter, politician?? are people saying that love bites are fine for anyone in any role that deals with the public?? Or that it's just okay for a person who works in a restaurant?

Agree with you, OP, but I hate them anyway, they look so tacky.

If I had a restaurant anybody with lovebites on show wouldn't be serving front of house. It just looks bloody awful.

I agree with you OP. I can't help but feel that it's an advertisement that they've been had recently... I do see things a bit literally sometimes!
I don't like it, I'd probably not be too shocked if it were in a franchise sort of place, but professionalism shouldn't really depend on where you work.

My dh has what looks like a lovebite on his neck. It's quite large and prominent. It's a mark from an allergic reaction he had as a teen. I'd hate to think that narrow minded people, such as yourself, were judging him and his ability to do his job based on a mark that he can do nothing about. Yabu.
