Love bites!

Now me and DH went into a well franchised food place in the UK, the young server tottered over to our table and had the biggest love bite on her neck, no attempt at covering it or anything. Now I think it's pretty tacky to have a server dealing with customers when they have a love bite on their neck and should be out in the back, my DH thinks it's no big deal and I was being old fashioned.

AIBU?

Yes I did and I still stand by my comment. Fair enough it might have been an actual love bite but it's still got nothing to do with how well she does her job. Smile

TheRedCarWon · 17/09/2016 17:21

And yes, they look tacky and I wouldn't have one myself but it wouldn't put me off going somewhere or using a service because the person serving had a Love bite.
The bit about my dh was that, if you'd not overheard the convo between her and her mate, you would not know for sure and would still have judged her.

Never once said it put me off the venue, or her ability. Once again presuming. My point was in a role like that, I didn't think having a love bite on your neck was professional looking. And I'd react the same if it was my doctor/dentist/priest/florist/sales assistant.

Grin my florist. Sorry this made me chuckle. No offence.

Sales assistant Hmm like whsmiths?

Lovebites look gross and it's tacky having waiting staff all be-lovebitten. I'm surprised she hadn't been told to cover it up by management.

In my day we whacked the Dermablend on it.

Sparklesilverglitter · 17/09/2016 17:44

Are long bites still a think? Shock

YANBU OP!

When I was at uni and worked in a restaurant part time I went in to work with a love bite ( I didn't even know I had one until my shock looking in the mirror that morning) I made sure I covered it up before I got to work as I certainly didn't want the world seeing

squoosh · 17/09/2016 17:49

I was just thinking that I haven't seen a lovebite in forever. I thought they'd gone out of fashion along with pagers and t-shirts that changed colour when you sweat.

Seeyouontheotherside · 17/09/2016 17:56

You're presuming it's a lovebite. It could be a birthmark or injury. You don't know. It didn't affect her service so it's none of your business.

They look unprofessional.

It's advertising that you are fucking, isn't it?

Sallystyle · 17/09/2016 18:42

I work in a hospital and I can't imagine one of the matrons or consultants coming into work and dealing with patients with a big love bite on their neck.

Yep. I work in a hospital as a NA and would be told to cover up a love bite because it isn't professional.

Of course I would still do my job as well but the way you presents yourself matters.

BrightOranges · 17/09/2016 18:54

All these comments about it not affecting her competence are quite frankly ridiculous. And the one about rather it being a lovebite than a black eye. Well obviously yes, but it wasn't a case of either or.

I think they look revolting and yes it does affect her work because if it is unsightly and enough to put a diner off their food, then they are not doing a competent job.

KungFuPandaWorksOut · 17/09/2016 18:54

That's my point U2 of course the girls allowed a private life outside of work, but when she's front of house and dealing with customers it represents the company how she looks and acts.
