I get a funny feeling in my sons bedroom but I bought the house from family so know a relative died in there. If I didn't know I don't think it would bother me.

Used to live in a big old Victorian house when the kids were little. We lasted four years before moving out. Apparently the previous owners had weird things happen. One morning I couldn't open the sitting room door because the sofa had been pushed against it from the inside. Took two of us to push with all our strength to budge it. One evening we heard what sounded like an explosion in my ma in law's room. She was very shaken saying a picture had just shot across the room. We experienced lights going on and off, a toy moving by itself and waking two of my kids up they were beyond terrified and remember it clearly 15 years on. Some people would not go upstairs in our house as they said it creeped them out. We heard footsteps, breathing was heard by one of the kids and he was so scared he wouldn't go to bed until we did. My youngest who was a pre schooler at the time wouldn't go into the sitting room because of "the thing that flies" I never figured it out but she was very upset. Eventually we invited a priest to bless it to put my children's minds at rest. We were happy to leave and the people who bought it were happy enough. The woman said she felt something had been disturbed but was at peace now. I'd not said anything as I wanted to sell it.

Another small one of mine from when I was a child. My Mum was very 'woo' - tarot, runes, healing, crystals etc. She showed me dowsing (using a pendulum to get yes/no answers but swinging back and forth or circling) and I used to play with it occaisionally. Once I used it to predict when my Dad would visit, down to the hour. However, this may well have been a co-incidence. My sister in law used it try to predict my sister's baby's birth date and it was miles off!
However my mother was uncanny with the tarot, she never charged for it either. She gave up a few years ago after 25+ years as she'd had a dream telling her to. To be fair, it did used to be quite draining for her.

I pretty much believe that everything is energy and all the 'woo' stuff is simply energy in different ways, whether echoes or in other dimensions.

Ong the thought of having a hug with your husband and then looking up and seeing their face has changed to someone else's is so horrible and nightmareish... :/ I am so spooked!

Another one of mine:

We have just moved out of the house we had been renting for 3 years. I never felt at home there, despite it being my DC's first home (was preggo when we moved in, youngest is now 2). It was get really really hot for no reason, as if the heating was on full blast. My dh can't stand being too hot and it used to really piss him off. It happened mostly when he was in the house by himself. I feel the cold and when I was there by myself it'd be freezing, even with the heating on. One time we both saw the clock fly off the wall, it made no sense as it had been hanging there for years quite securely. It went up in the air before it fell down! I had awful bad dreams and sleep paralysis in this house. I had several dreams where 'something' (someone?) was just in the bedroom, watching me and I'd awaken with a start. Me and DH both woke to see a shadow/blurry thing fly across the room. I thought it was a dream till he said, 'please don't tell me you saw that too'. Last week awoke to a shadowy being floating above me looking down and screamed and screamed. I had other dreams which were so bad I ended up scratching DH and myself in self-defence. We would find random objects in places. I found a hat which nobody knew who it belonged to, also a scrap of material with an unusual pattern, and random odd socks which I'd never seen before and didn't belong to any of us.The worst thing was when I went to our bedroom and a 'family portrait' style photo of a baby I'd never seen and 2 adults was on the floor, screwed up and with the woman's head ripped out. I have NO idea who they were and DH did not recognise the man or the baby, or the woman! Another time I found a little cross I'd been given for my christening on the floor buried in the shaggy rug on the floor, far away from the shelf with all the ornaments on it. Loads of items would go missing then turn up in places where we had already looked. The tv would turn itself on at random. It wasn't an old house just a smallish, newish built 2 bedroom. So glad to have left!

takesnoprisoners · 19/09/2016 17:02

pooh2 I would have never slept in that house! Sounds so scary!!! Was it just you or did the children experience it as well?

I went to Belgium about ten years ago with DBoyfriend at the time and some friends. DB is interested in WWI so we spent some time going round old trenches and battle sites and stuff and he got chatting to one man who I think worked on a trench that was currently being excavated. He told DB about it, and gave him the access code to get into the area, but said we had to get there before a certain time because the code changed every day. It took us a bit longer than we expected to find this place (driving round Belgium before sat navs!) and when we eventually got there the sun was just about to set. It was a really creepy place, right in the middle of a forest with a high fence around the area that was being dug up. I also remember that there really weird scarecrows in the next field – instead of normal straw men things the farmers had hung actual dead birds up on posts to deter the others!

When we tried to get in the code we’d been given didn’t work. Me and DFriends were a bit spooked by the place and worried that we wouldn’t find our way back in the dark, so we tried to get DB to leave but he refused to go after we’d spent so long trying to find the place, so climbed over the fence to have a quick shifty and we stayed in the car. A few seconds later we started hearing a really loud, deep, booming sound. Exactly like shell/heavy artillery bombing like it’s described in books/portrayed in war films. The three of us in the car were all looking at each other saying ‘What the hell is that?’ etc. All of us could hear it, but no idea what it was/where it was coming from. We were literally in the middle of nowhere in these woods, miles from any villages etc. and it was complete, dead silence before the noise started, not even any birds cawing. DB absolutely legged it back, got in the car and we drove away as fast as we could!
Even today we all remember it but have no idea what it could be. I did think that perhaps it was some sort of reconstruction that DB somehow triggered when he landed on the ground, but it wasn’t that sort of ‘interactive’ place iyswim, just a bare excavation site, and the noise didn’t sound like it was coming from speakers or something at all. My one friend still refuses to talk about it, and DB who I’m still in touch with and is the most dismissive woo person ever admits that it was very strange!

A second story was when I was revising in the library during my undergrad. There were about sixty computers in that area in rows back to back, iyswim and most of them were in use. I was trying to do my work, and I could hear the girl on the computer opposite me crying. It went on for ages, sometimes stopping, then getting louder, quieter, etc. I was wondering if I should say something, but kept looking at the people either side of me for a bit of a clue as to what to do! They didn’t seem to react to it, so I just kept quiet but I wondered why the people either side of her didn’t do anything, as they would be sitting right next to her and would be able to see her being upset rather than just hear her (the computers blocked you from seeing the people in the rows opposite). Anyway, after a while of this I really couldn’t concentrate, so I stood up to go….there was nobody on the computer opposite me! There was no way she could have left without me noticing, I had still been able to hear the crying a few seconds earlier, the library was v. quiet so you could hear people coming and going, and the moment she stood up from her chair I would have seen her. Also explains why everyone around me was giving me such weird looks when I was looking at them to see if they could hear it!
I actually heard crying again another time when I was alone in a different part of that library. Didn’t really bother me, just a bit weird that I seemed to have been stalked by a depressed ghost!

sorry for double post, I c&p it from a word document!

pooh2 · 19/09/2016 19:00

takes no prisoners, my older DC didn't like the house much. DH is the least woo person but I think even he was pretty freaked out by the photos and the hat. Youngest DC never seemed to mind the house, never said there were people who weren't there etc. But would wake up terrified sometimes, as if from a nightmare. I never made the link but DC never woke up terrified like that when we stayed elsewhere (we stay at my parents an awful lot). Am so spooked now!

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/09/2016 19:48

Alleycat - so sorry about your Dad but had to say that I've just got the connection with the crab in your Dad's recurring dream - cancer the crab. That really is inexplicable.

Alleycat1 · 19/09/2016 20:11

Onemorecup - Thank you. Not exactly woo but very strange.

Namechangedforthis4 · 19/09/2016 20:13

My parents live in a house previously owned by dm grandad. Before DC DF used to work nights. One night she was sat at he dressing table. The mirror reflected the top of the stairs, suddenly she heard someone walking up the stairs. She called out my dads name thinking he had come back from work. The footsteps paused the carried on. She smelled her grandad and saw a reflection over her shoulder in the mirror but wouldn't allow herself to focus I it. She just focused on herself so hard tears streamed down her face until the reelection faded.
I used to see an old lady in my room when I was young and described her in detail to my mum. Turns out exact description of her spinster great aunt who used to have my room (down to unusual hair and glasses) who died many years before I was born. They still live there and have heard my DS chatting away to someone in the bathroom.

onecrazycook · 19/09/2016 20:29

DH And I first moved into a 10 year old 2 up 2 down in 2004. Nothing remarkable about it.

We hadn't lived there very long when I had a rather strange dream. I dreamt I was watching a couple of teenagers in period dress- a girl and a boy- running in a field of waist high grass or corn. They were clearly having fun, laughing and joking. The girl got ahead of the boy quite a way an he gave chase. She tripped and disappeared into the long grass. Suddenly it was as if I was looking through his eyes and he (I) rushed over to her, but she had struck her head on a large rock and was clearly dead. The scene zoomed out again so I was spectating and I watched him drag her body towards a wooded area. I woke up in a sweat and the next day I relayed the dream to my workmates. Nobody really cared but it was so vivid and strange.

Fast forward 5 months to the middle of November. I was running a dance school at the time and that evening was my schools awards night. They also happened to be filming Derek Achora' s Ghost Towns in my town that night and DH had gone to watch the goings on. As I was clearing up from the awards night, I was telling the female caretaker of the community hall I had hired (200 yards from my house) that DH had gone to see the ghost show being filmed in town, and she said that there was a ghost story associated with this bit of land where the centre and the houses were built and then she started to tell me the contents of my dream.

My mum was with me at the time and she saw my face turn ashen and I dropped the bag of dance gear I was carrying in shock.

It seems the teenagers were in a Romeo and Juliet situation where they were forbidden by their families to be together. When the girl died, the boy hid her body for fear of getting blamed for her death. They say her ghost is seen holding her wounded head and searching for him.

I am covered in goosebumps just thinking about this again now.

Love threads like this!

Verticalvenetianblinds · 19/09/2016 21:03

love these threads! heres mine:
family holiday in a cottage in wales. First night we realise theres no cot for smallest one, so we join the 2 single beds together and put him next to his brother. they sleep fine. 2 am ish, i get woken up coz tv is on. go out and small one is sat one the floor with tv blaring. not wierd i thought, just a bad baby so put him back to bed.
cot arrived the next day. second night, about 3 am, tv turns on again, and the volume is increasing. out i go feeling angry the baby has escaped, but he hadnt, so i told the dog off for sitting on the remote. it was on the arm of the sofa tho so just assumed shed trodden on it. turned it off, back to bed.

third night i decided to leave remote in the middle of the table so it didnt happen again. third night (no idea what time) tv comes on. freaked out, slept with children and dog for protection.
fourth night. unplugged tv from the wall. left remote on top of the fridge. all slept in one room. Tv comes on at 3. big child (6) is sat in the middle of the floor giggling with it blaring. Oddly enough i couldnt sleep the rest of the night, we left the next morning.

this only happened 3 weeks ago so still very spooked by it!

onemorecup good point en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer_(constellation) sorry for your loss alleycat

Alleycat1 · 19/09/2016 22:12

I should have explained the crab and cancer connection as not everyone is familiar with constellations or the zodiac.

Deejeebee · 19/09/2016 22:33

Loving these stories but don't have the courage to read them at night!
When i was around 8 or 9 my family moved into one of these old Victorian type houses that was renovated and turned into apartments, from the day we moved the place just didn't settle with me there was a constant feeling of "being watched" (found out now my mother felt the same) I just hated it! Soon after weird things started happening i remember one day waking up and opening my room door to see an old lady in a Victorian dress pacing from the front door to the wall kitting! I "gasped" she turned right around looked at me and went straight out the door while it was closed i might add. But the worst most chilling one for me was one night I woke up needing the toilet I opened my door to see a man and woman sitting on our sofa with his arm around her looking at me I will never forget that feeling my blood ran cold he just looked me square in the face at that point I really needed the toilet so I tried to be brave and walked right past him and the woman went to the toilet and came back out to them still sitting there i tried not to look but when I did he had the most terrifying smile on his face that stretched from one ear to the other! I ran straight to my room and refused to ever go back out to the toilet ever again I actually started peeing my bed 😶 that's when my parents realized something was really wrong we moved about a month later that was the happiest day of my life!!!

Ezzie29 · 19/09/2016 23:23

I don't have any spooky stories thankfully but I am so going to regret reading these when I try to sleep tonight...

Apparently when my mum's mum died, my dad was driving with my sister who was about 4 and she said "grandma is here...she's waving bye bye...she's gone now" and it genuinely happened and shook him up but the thing is the story got more detailed and dramatic every time he told it (for instance my sister described the dress my grandma was wearing and unbeknownst to DSis, grandma had JUST BOUGHT THE DRESS BEFORE SHE DIED Shock) so it's hard to know if it really was a visitation, or my sister just imagining it. My cousins had loads of spooky experiences that they used to scare me with when I was younger but now I can definitely find rational explanations for many of them (sleep paralysis was definitely responsible for many of one cousin's experiences)
Still sleeping with the light on tonight tho...

crazyspaniellady · 20/09/2016 00:05

I've been following this thread for days now, so thought I'd share my 'woo'

when I was younger we lived in a flat (post WW2 council flat, nothing out of the ordinary) and when I was around 5/6 there was this figure that sat at the end of my bed, shadow-y but with a glow about him iyswim, he would appear in the middle of the night and I would be stuck in my bed, I couldn't move, speak scream, I couldn't even move my eyes away from him, he wasn't a nice spirit, I've never been more scared in my life. I could visualise myself getting out of my bed and running through to my parents (who were just on the other side of the wall) but could never do it, I tried to scream and shout but only a hiss would come out (like a struggled shout iyswim). He would only appear if I made a specific noise before going to sleep, like I summoned him, to this day my body/brain will not allow me to make this noise with the fear he comes back to visit (moved house but stillConfused)

not so woo, but we lost our darling cocker spaniel in february. There's a picture frame in our hallway with his 'sponser a guide dog' certificate in it (we sponsored/still do sponser guide dogs but on behalf of our dogs, don't call me crazy for nothin'!) and we had the light from his collar attached with a piece of string to this photo frame, at bang on 6:30 which was doggy tea time in our house, his favourite time of day after breakfast, the light came on by itself, nobody had touched it and it took a fair press to turn it on so wasn't even as if it had been nudged. Spookier still, on the first walk without him (still have a lovely springer) when it came to the part of the path where they get their leads on, I bent over to put on lovely springer's lead and heard our cocker bark behind me, I turned round thinking I was mistaken and it was a different dog (unlikely, I know the sound of my dogs barks craaaazy ) and there wasn't another soul about. He still likes to visit, I'll be lying in bed and suddenly it'll get really warm between my arms where he would lie when he got cuddles, and socks/pants/other random things go missing and turn up in his bed or under it when they've not been moved and our springer isn't keen on things like that, whereas our cocker was a serial sock/underwear thief!

I also get the heebie jeebies from the old kitchen at work, it's a renovated pub that had a bar upstairs and downstairs, now downstairs just looks like a normal shop, but our stock room/staff area still has the bar (minus the taps etc) and you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the toilets, the unit for the hot light etc is still there as it's bolted to the floor with an extractor that goes to the roof and i'm guessing the company just didn't want to pay to have it removed, but I SPRINT from one end to the other. I'm not the only one to get a bad vibe from it, it just makes my skin crawlSad

sorry it's so long Blush

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 20/09/2016 00:44

When I was 8-9 I was playing by myself on the floor of my bedroom. Suddenly the room went pitch black and something hit me on the head. I ran from the room screaming. I ran to my mum who came back to my room with me. The lightbulb had fallen from the light fitting and was stood perfectly upright (on its metal bit) on the rug directly under the fitting. I had been sat in that exact spot. It hit me and bounced. How the fuck did it manage to end up there? My step dad kept trying to recreate the scenario as he was convinced I did it. Even my mum asking him how I'd be able to reach and unclip a hot lightbulb didn't sway him. However he couldn't get the bulb to stand on end again no matter what. A few weeks later I noticed that he wouldn't be alone in the house and would sit in his work van until someone came home. When I got older my mum told me that he was pushed down the stairs backwards, he once came home to find the kettle just finishing boiling, and a face staring at him through the back window. My experience was the limit for him.

AmberNectarine · 20/09/2016 01:17

When I was a child (3, I believe), my mum took me to some sort of fete/fair. While there, we entered a raffle, as you do, the first prize being a wooden Noah's ark.

About 6 weeks later, I asked my mum, apropos of nothing, when my Noah's ark would be delivered. My mum gently explained that we probably didn't win etc. Later that day, a phone call came to inform us that we'd won and arrange delivery.

SnakeWitch · 20/09/2016 09:33

I'm sure it's just from reading this thread but last night I had a dream I was walking up the stairs and I heard a disembodied voice. I said Uncle X is that you? And Uncle X answered me. It wasn't a vivid dream but I'm hoping my uncle is OK! I am sure it's my overactive imagination.
