sorry to seem slow but there are all kinds of situations where Maui is the answer and I have never seen any suggestion why!

Maui was brilliant. I'd forgotten about the cruise as a hen do. And the wedding had to be in Maui, regardless of who the OP was getting married to, infact that bit seemed to be a bit irrelevant.

It was hilarious. The more that people were Googling/searching/trying to find the blessed book (all power to many lovely MNers) the more she kept shouting TONGA

Ooo what was tonga? Before my time but Pippa, Cheque, and Maui are recent popular slang as I was on or lurking on all of the above and I only joined in March.

Was she the one who wanted to be the local May Queen or something? Despite the fact it was usually a fifteen year old?

TONGA! was rather convoluted. IIRC, the OP (or the OP was posting on behalf of a 'friend'), was trying to find a book which was generally about the history of Tonga, but, apparently, it had a chapter about some naval battle which the OP's (or her 'friend's') ancestor had fought in, as a naval captain, near Tonga.

The OP/friend had lived in Tonga many years ago (her DH had been a British diplomat there) and she had loaned the book to a Princess of Tonga. The PoT never returned the book to her and subsequently moved to Switzerland (or somewhere?!). All appeals, for the return of the book, to the Princess and Tongan royal family had fallen on deaf ears. Unfortunately the OP/friend actually couldn't remember the title or author of the book.

Of course, there were suggestions to keep trying the Tongan Princess and the Tongan royal family for the return of the original book. But also loads of clever MNers did their best to try to find/Google this book. All responses were met with increasingly loud "NO, I said TONGA" etc.

I've found this zombie thread about it after the original thread was zapped www.mumsnet.com/Talk/what_were_reading/2286950-Wheres-the-Tonga-book-thread-gone

DH and I wanted to get married in Maui (or 'Maui'd' if you like) but our money didn't stretch that far.
