...to think that Deadpool, Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead aren't really appropriate films to show my 8 and 9 yr old ds's? ?!

I'll make this as brief as possible!
My husband and I separated over 2 years ago. We have 3 kids 8 and 9 ds and just 3 yr old dd. We went to court for child arrangement order, as mediation wasn't working and neither was anything else as he was so abusive to me when dropping or collecting kids.

Anyway. ..I've tried talking to him about keeping structure and routines, but he thinks I'm just criticising him.
But now the kids are lying to me about what they do there and they've eventually told me about watching these films! Apparently he fast forward the inappropriate bits of deadpool. Wtf?! Why even show them at all? !

Or am I overreacting?!

I've seen all of these films. ..yes they're great, especially deadpool. ....but for 8 and 9 yr olds??HmmAngry

I wouldn't want them watching Deadpool. It's an ace film but it is no way suitable for children.

Shaun of the dead.. I can't really remember but I'm sure that's not too bad.

Zombie land never seen. If just about zombies id say it's fine if kids are into that

However my 6 year olds favourite film is Step brothers. He accidently managed to watch it with me while I believed him to be asleep. So my opinion probably means fuck all Grin

No, far, far too explicit, disturbing and violent (edpecially deadpool) though i did show my 6 and 9 yr olds SOTD, having forget some of the colourful language and the few really gory bits.

Shaun of the dead. ..I agree not too bad. It's deadpool really. And zombieland, well, I just don't see the point in showing them these sorts of things anyway (which he's well aware of), there's so much they can see. ..why increase the level of films with unnecessary violence?

Plus, it's now making it an issue because they feel the need to lie to me. They shouldn't feel bad about talking to me. ..I've always said they must be honest, I don't tell them off. ..it's not their fault.

When I confronted him about deadpool, he just brushed me off saying he does what he feels is appropriate and that it doesn't matter what I feel, as they're his kids too! Hmm

ALL of Deadpool is inappropriate. You'd have to forward through the whole thing for it to be OK.

Never seen any of those - DS (11) wants to watch Deadpool but having read the reviews on here and elsewhere, there's no way he'll watch them yet.

It's hard for your DCs. They shouldn't have to lie and he shouldn't be showing them unsuitable films.

Mmm...forgot about the swearing in it! It's been ages since I saw it! Shock
I have no idea...I've spoken to MASH as they were supposed to be getting some support in place with the local family centre. But he won't speak to them or answer calls.....so they passed it back, and I've got a letter saying they won't do anything as it's a private law matter.
It's not the only thing that's been going on there and it's really starting to upset me. He just won't listen to anything I ask of him....which is only my concerns for our kids in the long term!!

No yanbu those films are completely inappropriate even with fast forwarding. This man has serious issues if he thinks it is okay to show them these. I would be fuming too!

Dead pool has a lot of sex and very specific, adult sex references in it. There's a whole 5 minute scene of them doing it Within different "themes" during the year. Definitely not appropriate.

Shaun of the dead just has a bit of swearing, I wouldn't worry about that one.

Id say 12+ would be fair enough for these films.

They all have a bit of gore and bad language in them and Deadpool had sex scenes in, I think?

I'm not sure if there is much you can do though except maybe not outwardly show your dislike of what the ex does? At least they won't lie then and you'll know what's happening.

Shaun of the dead has lots of blood and killing in it and is very sweary. It's a piss-take of zombie movies, but still too violent for my 10 year old I decided. I would let my 12 year old watch it if I sat next to her.

How difficult, I guess you really can't stop him.

Dd (10) had a sleepover at the weekend and dh told them they could watch Deadpool, lucky I asked what they were watching because I knocked it on the head straight away, no way is it appropriate, the other mother would have had something to say to me I'm sure!!

Shaun of the dead is fine though I think, I know ds has seen that, it's a comedy really, a bit gorey but funny

SarcasmMode.....I haven't actually said to the boys about it, only that I was surprised. I've never outwardly shown any dislike of him or what he does with them. ...because he is their Dad and always will be. Abs, I do think it's important that we're amicable.....at the very least, in front of the kids!

We once had BIL look after DS in an emergency, he was 5/6 at the time and came back telling me he'd watched Ted. I was furious; needless to say we haven't called upon BIL for childcare since!

Not sure there is much you can do regarding him letting them watch such films - he sounds unreasonable and unpleasant. I would work on making sure the DCs know they don't need to keep secrets from you, you won't ever be cross etc. That way at least you can discuss what they've seen and offer some balance/common sense!

He is being clearly irresponsible it sounds so difficult for you he really isn't thinking of the consequences of letting them see these films I know kids get to play games watch films underage but it's not something I ever allowed

YANBU about this - those films aren't suitable for kids that young. Mine have seen all three but they are 13 and 15. Not sure there's anything you can do about it, though.

My husband and I were actually discussing those films in relation to our 10 year old the other day (not zombieland, never heard of it) and concluded that they were unsuitable at the moment, even though we know he'd love them. Yanbu.

Thankyou for your comments...it's reassuring that I'm not the only person that thinks it's not ok (even though my stbxh doesSad) ...
So I shall continue with my reassurances to the boys about being honest and open with me. ..
