This has been done to death but even so - workmen and toilets

So two workmen arrive at 8.30am by 10.30am BOTH had been for a shit. And they'll have working here by 12pm. That's less than four hours when they could either have gone before they set off in the morning or waited until they left.

One is stinking the whole ground floor out and I just know there is going to be something left for me to clear up when the stench has died down a bit.

Why, why, why would you go to someone else's house for a crap.

And I don't believe workmen suffer unduly from loose stools compared to the rest of the population but every single bloody one that comes here feels the need to offload as soon as they walk through the door.

This thread is the best thing on here today! Grin
Poogate is always popular.

Blueskyrain · 12/09/2016 17:18

It's stupid because you have a perfectly functioning toilet just a few metres away.

Frankly if you need to ask why it's stupid that somebody gets in their van and drives it to a shop to use a toilet and then comes back at the cost of at least half an hour time, oh and risk to themselves because they will have left tools at your address, rather than using the facilities there, you really are beyond hope.

Let me guess they should eat their sandwiches outside even if it's raining.

If they ever bring back the workhouse, you've definitely got the skills for management

LagunaBubbles · 12/09/2016 17:19

Why is it "unlikely" they would need a poo? It might be manky they never cleaned up their mess but last time I checked men were still human beings, not robots, and therefore have a need to eliminate their waste, same as women.

squoosh · 12/09/2016 17:22

Mumsnet should change their strapline from 'By parents for parents' to 'There's a little bit about parenting but it's mostly about poo'.

gemmawinegum · 12/09/2016 17:31

This thread should advance straight to Mumsnet Classics. Actually there should be a sub folder all to itself titled 'poo' where all the poo threads can sit together in harmony.

These people need shaming. Next time you have trades people in, before they go, "I won't be a minute, just checking something", check the bog, then tell them to clean their own shit before they leave (before you've handed over the cash/cheque). Bloody animals, in fact that's an insult to animals.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 12/09/2016 17:43

Blimey, there are degrees you know, between having IBS, and being able to hold onto a poo for hours, nay days, at a time.

Comejointhemurder · 12/09/2016 17:50

It's strange that on MN, visitors in a home using the toilet for what's it designed for is unacceptable but you should ALWAYS provide visible sanitary products and a bin for the disposal of those sanitary products which you get to empty later because it's completely unacceptable that someone should ask where your outside bin is to dispose of used sanitary products and even more unacceptable that they'd wrap it in tissue and dispose of it themselves later.

They're both natural bodily functions that people have limited control over but one is seen as acceptable and something the host should deal with and one is seen as an act that has some kind of strange motive behind it!.

SpookyPotato · 12/09/2016 17:51

I can hold on but it gets distracting, what if it distracts them from doing a good job Wink I know lots of people without ibs who just need to go when they need to go!

PGPsabitch · 12/09/2016 17:52

Yanbu to be annoyed and grossed out by a dirty loo left. Ywbu to think people call all shit on demand or deny access (except to dirty buggers).

Dh always needs the loo midday, even if he cleans out in the morning. I'd be disgusted if he left a loo like that.

We had men working here that left a shit fest literally. I was revolted, dh found the mess. Dh just leant out the window and said 'could the person who left that shit everywhere sort it right now because neither of us will'. A shame faced young guy was physically pushed in five minutes later and dh gave him wipes and the brush.

You shouldnt have to point it out but i wold, to make a point. If it happened again then I'd refuse use to them.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2016 17:57

I find the opposite on MN: you must allow all and sundry to use your bog, even strangers who stop by. It's a public toilet. And clean it up, because people can't be expected to have any manners. Anything else and you're a crashing snob, mean-spirited, precious.

Tradesmen, you need to be sure to offer them your WiFi, toilet for however long and put up with whatever state they leave it in, provide with endless cups of tea and biscuits, full compliment of snacks, beverages, full meals, etc. Just paying their professional remit isn't enough. Or you're a crashing snob.

PepsiPenguin · 12/09/2016 17:58

That's brilliant PGP!

Bet he never pebble dashed a bathroom again.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2016 17:59

'and something the host should deal with and one is seen as an act that has some kind of strange motive behind it!.'

She's not a host and they are not guests.

PepsiPenguin · 12/09/2016 18:01

but if their DH does it, well LTB...

expatinscotland · 12/09/2016 18:04

Oh, yeah, if their partner does it, definitely leave the disrespectful git, but not workmen. We have a load of guys working out here in a lot that's being developed. Shocked by how much time they spend on their phones.

ShatnersBassoon · 12/09/2016 18:06

I have one of those trusty bowels that can sit (yes, sit) it out for days if I'm not able to use a toilet I'm comfortable with. Except for every time I step in TKMaxx, when I'm instantly screaming for a shit, film of sweat up my back panic, the lot Confused. Do you buy a lot of your home furnishings there?

Comejointhemurder · 12/09/2016 18:07

expat - okay, I inadvertently used 'host' but the point still applies as all the 'do you provide sanitary protection?/ do you have a bathroom bin for visitors' threads.

topcat2014 · 12/09/2016 18:09

Fascinated by all the talk of not using the toilets whilst at work - is this full time?

We all use the toilets regularly in our office - can't think of anyone who doesn't.

Mind you, we all keep each other updated with all our various medical ailments too possibly tmi

Whoever compared it to getting your period at someone's house as a guest Hmm
Slightly different than a builder leaving poo all over your toilet and stinking.

How many women would leave it all over the toilet? Seriously?

wasonthelist · 12/09/2016 18:12

Business idea - you know those websites that advertise trusted tradespeople? It could include a whole new category of feedback -

Number of shits taken during works
Cleanliness of bogs/smell left afterwards
etc

Comejointhemurder · 12/09/2016 18:22

Amanda - completely unacceptable to leave a mess but I was responding to all the 'workmen should go before or hold it or go to Tesco' etc posts.

Whereas on the very frequent 'do you have a bathroom bin' threads, the very idea that a woman on her period should ask for an outside bin to dispose of sanitary protection provokes horror. And sanitary protection should be provided visibly for any visitors who may need it.

So I do see a disparity in the attitudes between the two bodily functions.

GahBuggerit · 12/09/2016 18:23

Grin at being soooooo disgusted with a bit of shit and then waiting actual HOURS before putting bleach down
