This has been done to death but even so - workmen and toilets

So two workmen arrive at 8.30am by 10.30am BOTH had been for a shit. And they'll have working here by 12pm. That's less than four hours when they could either have gone before they set off in the morning or waited until they left.

One is stinking the whole ground floor out and I just know there is going to be something left for me to clear up when the stench has died down a bit.

Why, why, why would you go to someone else's house for a crap.

And I don't believe workmen suffer unduly from loose stools compared to the rest of the population but every single bloody one that comes here feels the need to offload as soon as they walk through the door.

PepsiPenguin he certainly never left ours like that again. Wink Hopefully it stayed the same for others.

HeyMicky · 12/09/2016 18:26

I don't think it's been suggested that workmen are actively rewarded with a biscuit for taking a shit and leaving a mess.

And there is no need to be slavishly cleaning up workman poo in gratitude for their service

I just don't understand why you can't make expectations clear.

"Can I use the loo?"
"Yes, here it is. There is a loo brush and bleach in there - please clean up after yourself if you need to."

riceuten · 12/09/2016 18:28

Would you rather they shat in the garden ?

Im sorry but getting your period as a gues at someone's house isn't comparable imo.

If someone left a goddawful mess in your toilet after doing so that's different.
I'm genuinely shocked people would be happy to see their toilet looking like that after workmen had been in.
It's not part of the deal when you have builders to clean up shit!

PinkyOfPie · 12/09/2016 18:50

I am flabbergasted at people who can save up their poos for home. A lady at my work 'doesn't poo at work' Confused HOW! If you need to go you need to go.

PepsiPenguin · 12/09/2016 18:51

I've figured it out...

Husband/partner does it at home, rude, disrespectful - his wife says, do that again and as per mumsnet rules I'm leaving you, you dirty bastard.

Husband is utterly baffled by lack of toilet brush and now in fear of having a shit in his own home and off to work he goes... Mad rush for bathroom leaving shit and piss everywhere as of course this is fine! And he is seen as a clean husband at home...

this is obviously why there all doing it at work and other peoples homes... It's because they have to wait to leave their homes as men are actually just so stupid they can't work out how to clean up after themselves when they have a shit

🙄 I think not

ShatnersBassoon · 12/09/2016 18:52

I can save mine up over a long weekend away if I'm not satisfied with the facilities, so a day at work is not even close to a stretch for me.

HeyMicky · 12/09/2016 18:53

But Itsmine clearly it's necessary.

I agree people should clean up after themselves like a normal adult, but if the choice is make expectations clear or clean up someone else's poo yourself then I'd rather say something in advance

PepsiPenguin · 12/09/2016 18:58

You should not have to explain to a grown adult that they need to clean up after themselves

Could you ever imagine saying this to a woman? Or having to say, yes here is the toilet Mavis, there is the loo brush, bleach, (or whatever people have in their homes) if you need to clean up... Oh btw before I forget are you menstruating dear? Que long conversation about that - by the end of that conversation you have likely peed or pooped yourself as you have been holding for 2 hours to try and finish the job first as you can't use someone else's loo.

Comejointhemurder · 12/09/2016 19:16

Amanda - I've already said that mess isn't acceptable and reiterated my original point.

That in no way suggests people should clear up builders shit.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 19:20

Yes because saying 'Please clean up after yourself' to a grown man going to the loo isn't weird at all. I thought I was the weird one here for expecting them to know these very basic things grin.

This

You should not have to explain to a grown adult that they need to clean up after themselves

And this

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 19:24

Gah - it's true, I shut the door on it because I was actually at work, doing the job that earns me money and didn't want to break off what I was doing to chisel shit off the side of my loo.

(Also I wanted DP to see it to check he was suitably shocked - he was!)

Then hire women, problem solved.😄

Yes, because that's exactly what other posters said, isn't it? They weren't just "happy" - they were positively ecstatic at the prospect of shit stained walls. I believe I even saw someone upthread say they'd be happy to lick the shit off the walls.

Today on MN, I learned the following:

Being prepared to allow tradespeople to use your bathroom = turd fetishstic.

JacquesHammer · 12/09/2016 19:37

Life is so much easier when you don't care about these things.

Loos are for using: if there's marks I couldn't waste the energy required to be pissed. Bleach, rubber gloves. Done in 20 seconds.

Very are you always this overly excitable and prone to fabrication ? grin

Not half as prone as some people on this thread are of putting words into other people's mouths and conflating two separate issues.

Let them use it, but make them bleach the toilet and spray the seat with dettol.

BlueCorvette · 12/09/2016 19:44

Would you rather they went off to hunt for a public loo for half an hour?

In my mind it's basic human rights that if someone is working somewhere for a number of hours/days, they are provided with a toilet.

If they leave it in a mess then that is an entirely separate issue.

Seeyouontheotherside · 12/09/2016 19:49

People with bad diets always have stinky shits. If you're going to make your shits stink by what you put into your mouth then you should have the decency to shit only in your own house or put a bucket in the back of your work van, all builders have a van. Yanbu. They should shit in their vanWink

Ditsyprint40 · 12/09/2016 19:52

I would hugely care if someone did this in my house. I'm such a poo prude!! I've got a 'poo routine' in place so I only go in the morning after a cuppa.. Couldn't bear to poo at work!!

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 12/09/2016 19:55

Can't you just put up a little sign right in the eye line of anyone on the loo saying PLEASE LEAVE THE LOO AS CLEAN AS YOU FOUND IT or something? And leave a toilet brush and a pack of flushable wipes to hand.

That should shame them into not leaving such a mess.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 20:02

It's worth repeating once more that NO-ONE has said they can't use the loo. In fact, if I had banned them from using it then they wouldn't have shat in it in the first place and would thus have missed out on all this MN fun.
