This has been done to death but even so - workmen and toilets

So two workmen arrive at 8.30am by 10.30am BOTH had been for a shit. And they'll have working here by 12pm. That's less than four hours when they could either have gone before they set off in the morning or waited until they left.

One is stinking the whole ground floor out and I just know there is going to be something left for me to clear up when the stench has died down a bit.

Why, why, why would you go to someone else's house for a crap.

And I don't believe workmen suffer unduly from loose stools compared to the rest of the population but every single bloody one that comes here feels the need to offload as soon as they walk through the door.

I think it is perfectly possible to have a poo and not stink someone's house out. Quick poo , no hanging about on the phone or reading. Wipe. Open window. Bleach. Hand wash. Shut door as leave. 5 mins later no problem.

I think some people just have no manners and take pride in desecrating other people's space. My sister does this. I have never worked out the psychology of someone who walks past two toilets in my bungalow, goes into m bedroom, shits in the ensuite, doesn't open window or put in extractor fan but leaves door open to bedroom so the place is rank even hours later. Grr.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 12/09/2016 14:32

All I can put it down to is marking their territory.
Now, people saying how can they clean skids away with no toilet brush, this is no excuse, wad of toilet paper in the hand and wipe the sides, is this so difficult to do, who ever uses this as an excuse is a dirty bastard. I'm a fan of toilet brushes btw.
OP, hope they leave everything how they found it, doubt it though.

Havingkittens04 · 12/09/2016 14:34

Yuck, yuck, I'd definitely feel the same as you OP Sad

I'd find it so hard not to mention as I bid them farewell that, after their work here is done, mine is just beginning thanks to them, and set about scrubbing the bathroom clean. I'd open all the windows to clear the smell while they were there to make a point. I'd boil the hand towel straight away too as I bet they only used water to 'wash' their hands....if that....

I don't go no. 2 anywhere except for in my own home. I work in an office where, I swear, some men people hold it in until they reach the office then spend a good 20 mins in there. How on earth they can miss the toilet bowl is beyond me. They are grown ups ffs. Making it unpleasant for everyone else, no shame...

I am aware that I am 'weird and precious' and I really don't care Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/09/2016 14:34

I think some people actually just like wasting time and so will do the things like making tea, going to the toilet, making phone calls etc in work time instead of actually doing what they really there to do.

Imagine if you were paid 4 Hours a day. Between a shit and a cigarette or two you can actually waste a fair amount of paid time.

Many other jobs you actually have to be there in order to be ready to go straight away at X time. Even if that means arriving 10 mins early in order to get your tea/natter etc out the way.

Of course if you have to go you have to go but we all know own that one guy who suddenly needs a shit every time it's time to go somewhere or do something.

Can i just bottom something out?

For me pooing is much like weeing. I don't need to go, then things get moving, and I do need to go.

When I need to go, I don't need to go instantly - I could hold it for quite a while (just as you can when you need a wee) but it would be uncomfortable and I would be looking for a loo soon! No way could I wait hours. I don't have IBS or anything like that .

How on earth does one poo at the same time each day? Is it just that you're in a routine or do you have to sit there for a long time waiting?

Bumpsadaisie · 12/09/2016 14:41

PS, because I only do a poo when I need to it takes me literally 20 seconds (plus 30 secs of handwashing after). Do others take much longer?

I thought everyone was like me!

BarbarianMum · 12/09/2016 14:45

Actually, this is really simple to solve. Provide a portaloo for any workmen you have working for you, or ask them to provide it and bill you. People are allowed access to a toilet at work.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 14:47

No-one is disputing that they need access to the loo. The point is when it's one of the first things they do and they leave a mess afterwards.

OP posts:
RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 14:49

Bumpsadaisie I just go at the same time each day: after breakfast and before shower.

I thought everyone was like me (apart from workmen of course) Grin

RachelRagged · 12/09/2016 14:54

Completely agree not clearing up if you made a mess in the loo, not opening a window is UR

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 12/09/2016 15:11

Poogate

For shame mumsnet, for shame.

Did your builder shit on the floor and wipe his arse on a towel? I was joking earlier but it looks like Bobby Sands has set up a building company!

celeste83 · 12/09/2016 15:19

I worked as secretary for a construction company once and its generally the client's responsibility to provide facilities for contractors. I don't see why it would be different for private residential work. So technically speaking as employer of these workmen its your legal responsibility to provide facilities for said workmen. This includes somewhere to make a drink, somewhere to eat, and somewhere to go toilet. They are totally within their rights to use your loo, or else you could provide a portaloo for them Grin

Amandahugandkisses · 12/09/2016 15:23

I totally agree with OP.
It's always tradesmen. I hate it and think it's really disrespectful actually.
I've just had a painter in who spent more time in my toilet than in the job. That was just weeing though.

Childrenofthestones · 12/09/2016 15:39

Haha Celeste, you've given a few people something to cogitate on.👍😄

HandmaidsTail · 12/09/2016 15:42

It literally cannot be disrespectful to use a toilet just because it's not your very own toilet.

Leaving it in a mess, yes. But just using it for it's intended purpose, no.

LagunaBubbles · 12/09/2016 15:49

Illness and debilitating conditions aside, they are here to work. I don't go to work for a clear-out. I prepare myself before I go so that I can do the job I'm being paid for

You need to look up some basic human biology. And realise that just because you poo at 7.30am on the dot not everyone does.

LagunaBubbles · 12/09/2016 15:50

And have they left your toilet in an actual mess or is this an assumption?

Iknowthisgirlcanx100 · 12/09/2016 15:51

Have you read the Help

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 12/09/2016 15:51

Beware of any cakes!

LagunaBubbles · 12/09/2016 15:52

Disrespectful to use a toilet - for the purpose its designed for?? Heard it all now! Grin

claraschu · 12/09/2016 15:52

I am exactly like Bumpsadaisy. When I need to go it is very uncomfortable to wait, impossible to wait long, and very quick. I often go several times a day, and it is not a big deal, not smelly or messy. Perhaps diet has something to do with this (lots of fruit and veg, no meat and dairy).

I can't understand how anyone can grudge another person the use of a toilet, nor do I understand how anyone can leave a mess. Both of these things are deeply inconsiderate.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 15:55

Ok for everyone who thinks I'm making a fuss ... I've just been in and this is what I've found:
