This has been done to death but even so - workmen and toilets

So two workmen arrive at 8.30am by 10.30am BOTH had been for a shit. And they'll have working here by 12pm. That's less than four hours when they could either have gone before they set off in the morning or waited until they left.

One is stinking the whole ground floor out and I just know there is going to be something left for me to clear up when the stench has died down a bit.

Why, why, why would you go to someone else's house for a crap.

And I don't believe workmen suffer unduly from loose stools compared to the rest of the population but every single bloody one that comes here feels the need to offload as soon as they walk through the door.

The workmen's employer is supposed to provide access to a toilet. If you absolutely do not want them using yours when working at your house, presumably they will have to provide a portaloo? If so, you'll be paying for it.

BTW, here's a Star for all those who can shit on demand. I hope you've all made yourself a little badge that you can carefully sew onto to your Guiding uniform.

I will ask DD if the Brownies have a shitting on demand badge.

hmcAsWas · 12/09/2016 13:41

I'm loving some of these comments Grin

alizondevice · 12/09/2016 13:41

In Germany I've seen pointed signs in public toilets exhorting to leave the loo in the same pristine condition they found it. To make sure it's extra clear, they add, "You may use the toilet brush." :D Might be worth a try.

No one is 'precious' or 'weird'

I beg to differ M'Lud!

I think men shit more often don't they? could this be why? They also don't have the problems we have with water retention which can cause constipation.

Most men I've known shit at least twice a day if not more. It must be difficult when your day is spent out and about.

When workmen come to my house, I don't mind them using my loo at all as long as they clear up after themselves and open the window as well but they so often don't so this is more about bad behaviour rather than the going to the loo itself.

HandmaidsTail · 12/09/2016 13:45

Itsmine the work around is going to the nearest toilet!

What on earth do you expect people to do if they're working at a house from say, 9-5? Nip to the local supermarket every time they need to use the loo?

Honestly feel like I'm in some sort of alternate universe on MN sometimes.

someonestolemynick · 12/09/2016 13:46

And about public loos... I live and work in London and rarely see a public loo. It's mostly nipping into McDonald's, Starbucks or a bigger shop. Are public loos abundant in the rest of the country?

SpookyPotato · 12/09/2016 13:50

All the men I know shit more often than us, I'm a once a dayer whereas brothers, partners and friends seem like they are going in there all day! Grin This is purely anecdotal, not scientific Grin

This has never happened to me with workmen but I wouldn't mind, smells disappear and that's what toilets are for. I would rather they be comfortable than holding it in and not concentrating as well as they could be!

wasonthelist · 12/09/2016 13:50

Sorry, OP, third option, as a previous poster said, is one of the plastic cubicle chemical toilets in your front garden :)

I had this last night! Guy delivering my bed. As soon as I answer the door he asks if he can use the toilet. i just automatically say yes and only realise once he has gone in that there was no loo roll! He put the seat down to so god knows what he used to clean his arse!

KinkyAfro · 12/09/2016 13:54

So everyone complaining that workmen's shit stinks, WTF do you expect, it's shit FFS. I'd like to know what yours smell like....flowers?

RaspberryOverload · 12/09/2016 13:54

Looking at the thread, I think the problem is people who use a client's toilet but don't make the effort to keep it clean, or whatever is needed to leave it acceptable for the next person (including a bit of bleach, if necessary, or air-freshener if provided).

NellysKnickers · 12/09/2016 13:55

I honestly can't believe MN sometimes. .... unless your workman crapped on your kitchen floor then you are being very unreasonable........and quite odd.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 13:57

One of my jobs is in a bloke-y line of work. We share a portacabin where the loo is (revoltingly) off the kitchen.

Never ever has there been any kind of smell permeating the place. So that's up to 10 men who can either keep the place clean and fresh, or go before they get to work (which to me is the most logical thing to do anyway).

HandmaidsTail · 12/09/2016 13:58

So if someone spends 2 hours at your house and find that, within the first 20 minutes, they need to use the loo, they should hold it in for the next hour and 40 minutes - then however long it takes them to find a toilet after they leave your house? Hmm

wasonthelist · 12/09/2016 13:58

Air freshener in the loo - doesn't. It adds the stench of a chemical works to the stench of shit.

I can't cope with people shitting in our toilet, I'm bad enough with DP and the kids. He knows the routine though, window open before you start, taps on so no noises and a ton of air freshener and bleach down the pan straight after. I can't do it in other people's houses or public toilets either (and I have IBS) because it freaks me out. Manky buggers could have gone somewhere else.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 12/09/2016 13:59

Itsmine Grin and Flowers to keep things fresh!

takesnoprisoners · 12/09/2016 14:00

FFS, they are human! They probably don't have an agenda to ONLY poo in your crapper. If it is not clean, ask them to clean up instead of moaning and being a tight arse. YABU.

Yeah but in this instance it was both of them, so we're not exactly talking an emergency. Unless they shared a dodgy curry last night. No, this is people who just feel entitled to crap where they want.

At least I've got a cloakroom but in a house with only one upstairs bathroom it's really disrespectful to use it as a public convenience.
