To be dog broody?

Grin

It's a beautiful day and the sun is shining and I want to run across the hills with a dog.

I have no dog Sad

So AIBU to make a huge soppy fuss of dogs I meet on my travels and not care when they place their muddy paws on my shoulders and stare lovingly into my eyes ... ?

Was insanely puppy broody.
I took the plunge and pup is now 4 weeks old - only 4 weeks until we bring her home!

stayathomegardener · 11/09/2016 23:02

Totally dog broody... This little one arrives and I swear I'm worse.
I spent the afternoon blowing bacon flavoured bubbles. It was great.

I WANT a dog so badly!
Have 3 cats... adorable assholes. DS2, 19 is autistic and desperate for a dog (he is gentle and kind and would be a fab doggie person) We recently camped for a week with friends and DS2 spent the entire week cuddling an Irish setter that was a big lump of love.
But dh is opposed.. thinks we have enough hassle in our lives! I work school hours but DS2 is home most of the day..we could do it.

I need to persuade DH!

This may out me but whatever. My foster greyhound that has just found his forever home.

I had that OP and now we have 3 Dogs Grin

They are all as mad as a box of frogs and I adore them all.
If you saw us out walking our Dogs you would get jumped up and licked and cuddled(the greyhound is huge and he loves to stand on 2 legs and cuddle people lik a human would)and if your really lucky the Jackhuahua may even sing for you.
She can fit in our hands but I swear she thinks she's a wolf!

Just to be clear(so I don't get flamed)they only ever jump up people that they know want to have a mad fuss with them.

Am totally dog broody too. Don't have the right lifestyle (yet) for one but increasingly dog ownership is becoming a life goal. DH and I have registered to be volunteer walkers at our local rescue centre but I am terrified I will just want to bring them all home. We also go to Fun Dog Shows to decide which ones we would dognap. Grin

We got our puppy last week (miniture Schnauzer), she's cute and clever but it's hard work!! It's honestly like having a newborn baby again! She needs a lot of attention, doesn't like being in her own, wakes in the night, and can't go out on walks until she's had her second lot of vaccinations ( another two weeks), so I'm getting cabin fever. I'm trying to look ahead and think about the fun times we will have and what she will bring to our family life. We have just signed up to borrow my doggy to lend her out now and again.

sparechange · 12/09/2016 12:41

Have you thought of signing up to Borrow My Doggy?
My dog-broody friend uses it for her dog fix and has a few weekend houseguests or companions for when she is working from home.

yellowDahlia · 12/09/2016 12:41

I am so dog broody. My FB/Instagram/Pinterest feeds are filled up with dachshunds, papillons and border collies (my top 3 fave breeds!) but honestly any dog would do. I crave long walks in the woods and fields and a wee hairy companion around the house and garden.

But... DH is not really a pet person and may never be. It makes me sad sometimes to think I might never persuade him and I'd only want to be a doggy family if we all really wanted to do it.

Still, I do hope it might happen someday, when the time is right. And I'm now on the look out for an opportunity to borrow someone else's pooch or volunteer for some dog walking...it will have to do for now!

gleegeek 26! My word! We had a dog of 20 and thought that was amazing, but 26 is fantastic!

Was s/he a breed (and if so, what?) or (that increasingly difficult to find) mongrel?

HuskyLover1 · 12/09/2016 13:26

I have 9 doggies in my house today :-)

2kids2dogsnosense · 12/09/2016 13:30

It is a scientifically proven fact that the correct number of dogs for any household is the number you can get past your OH.

Statistics show that up to* 98% of husbands are delighted when their wives come home with a basket full of puppies.

All dog lovers will confirm that "too many" is still "not quite enough".

There is no such thing as an ugly puppy - even people who insist that there are ugly babies in the world will never argue with this.

*NB - the expression "up to" clearly includes the figure "nought". (Legal disclaimer)

TheWernethWife · 12/09/2016 13:35

Purple - I want a whippet, every time I see one I have to go over for a cuddle. Don't think my three cats would appreciate it though.

theredjellybean · 12/09/2016 13:55

Sorry don't have time to RTFT so apologies if its already been mentioned, dog rescues are always looking for people to help walk their dogs? Bit of a win win? :)

StepCatsmother · 12/09/2016 16:32

I felt exactly like you...

So this week my 2 Italian Greyhound puppies arrived Grin I'm so happy!

Genius. And true.

I would never change mine but I also wanted summer days with dog, days at beach etc. My DDog hates the sun so all these beautiful places can only be enjoyed in wind, rain and cold conditions. Summer days indoors in the cool and walks at times such as 5am or 10pm when it's cooled down. I took her to the beach twice, she hated it much happier in stagnant bogs or fox shit.

CoolCarrie · 13/09/2016 01:03

I know that feeling well OP! I wanted an Irish wolfhound for years and years, but didn't have the money, room or time to have one, but we ended up with two of these beautiful cuddly think -we -are- lap -dogs-really ☺️hairy babies who we love so much & love us in return.
We had to get a bigger car to accommodate them, I feel like a medieval woman when we are out with them. We then got a wee rescue mixed breed puppy who is a bundle of love too. Our dogs are our joy every day. The iwh are like having two more people in the house and our cat treats them all with distaste, but they all get on fine.

Borrow a dog is such a brilliant idea and walking a rescue dog is such a lovely thing to be able to do.

Flowerpower41 · 13/09/2016 06:49

I would love a dog but hate the walks simply detest them so it isn't fair to get one.

Was thinking when ds leaves home (not yet as he is only 11) I would get a retired greyhound that is nice and manageable. To help the empty nest syndrome!

shinynewusername · 13/09/2016 06:59

As well as Borrow My Doggy, there is the Cinnamon Trust - link trust dogs here. You borrow the dog of someone who is elderly or ill, either just for a walk or for a short stay. So you are helping an elderly person keep their beloved pet, as well as getting canine quality time.

katemess12 · 13/09/2016 07:03

You can borrow my Beagle for a day, and I'm sure he'll put your broodiness at rest for a good decade. Grin

But I love him so much, I could just squish him. Even when he wrenches my arm out of its socket, mid-walk. Or when he whines at me because I left the room. Or when his snoring causes the wall between my bedroom and the living room to vibrate. Or when he eats his own/other dog's poo. Or when he farts from 5pm until you decide to call it a night lest you get gassed to death.
