To be dog broody?

balletcats · 11/09/2016 10:19

Grin

It's a beautiful day and the sun is shining and I want to run across the hills with a dog.

I have no dog Sad

So AIBU to make a huge soppy fuss of dogs I meet on my travels and not care when they place their muddy paws on my shoulders and stare lovingly into my eyes ... ?

Getting my rescue pup was the best thing I could have done, yanbu.. When she isn't out and about with us I love stopping and petting other dogs - they are great conversation starters too, I've met loads of fab people through my dog 😊 How nice to see a 'pro' dog thread on MN!

paddypants13 · 11/09/2016 11:39

Glee, 26 years? Wow! You must miss your dog so much.

Puppies are lovely but I love a grumpy oldster. When I lived with my parents we used to joke that we were like a retirement home for elderly dogs.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 11/09/2016 11:40

Is there a rescue place nearby where you can volunteer and take out the dogs for walks. theres one near us that people do this for, they all walk in the nearby woods and tis a joy to see how much they and the dogs get from it. the perfect solution if you can't actually have your own pet.

anametouse · 11/09/2016 11:43

Borrowmydoggy website?

MuseumOfCurry · 11/09/2016 11:43

I'm constantly dog broody. Specifically basset hound broody.

YES.

I saw a PUPPY basset hound about a year ago and I made such a silly fool out of myself with the owner, I was driven to madness with jealousy and desire for this dog. I was inhaling its smell and making the owner really uncomfortable.

balletcats · 11/09/2016 11:50

Can you do that Step? :)

And I LOVE bassets! Their droopy ears ...

Love 🐩🐕. Thanks for starting a pro dog thread. Hope you get your dog soon and if you meet mine on a walk he loves cuddles.

imonaplane · 11/09/2016 11:56

I am truly blessed. I have three dogs and am off out into the sunshine with them in little while. Smile YANBU!

Soubriquet · 11/09/2016 11:59

Someone has a basset near me

I have never seen such a lazy dog Grin

A pensioner with a mobility aid could walk faster than that dog. He walks so slow and stops every 3 steps it takes the owner half an hour to walk a street. It's quite funny really

SoupDragon · 11/09/2016 12:00

If anyone is near Croydon they are welcome to my hell hound adorable spaniel any time.

Borrowmydoggy is a good idea and, if you have time to have a temporary dog, you could be a boarder - my dog went for a Home Stay whilst I was on holiday rather than putting him in kennels.

MuseumOfCurry · 11/09/2016 12:01

I love lazy dogs most of all. Blessedly, mine has turned out as such.

bluetongue · 11/09/2016 12:03

After my fostering experience I'm determined to become a dog owner. Obviously anyone can go out and get a dog or puppy but I want to do it properly. It has to be a pointy dog though, I'm properly hooked on them Grin

MuseumOfCurry · 11/09/2016 12:22

What's a pointy dog?

Soubriquet · 11/09/2016 12:24

Pointy dog:- a pointer, greyhound, whippet, lurcher basically anything with a really pointy noise

Narnian · 11/09/2016 12:33

I am the proud owner of my very first dog. He's great and I'll never be without one now! He's a big, bouncy 42kg mongrel who doesn't have a clue just how big he is. We get stopped lots by dog-lovers who are fascinated by him (not many mongrels about now) and love guessing what breeds are in him! If you're in the NW ballet you can borrow him. He thinks everyone is his best mate.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 11/09/2016 12:42

I'm dog-broody and have been for decades since I read an article about re-homing ex-racing greyhounds. Unfortunately my current circumstances preclude dog-ownership so I'm waiting until retirement. In the intervening decades I've expanded my fetish to include all sight-hounds. Eventually, I suspect it will be all dogs, any dogs.

Wispa at the Mayhew has been looking for a home for some time and I am SO tempted. Look at that face. Just. Look. At. It.

I want a pointy dog! Last time I went to the seaside I met the most beautiful lurcher/bedlington cross and fell head over heels in love. I actually teared up a bit when he trotted off with his lucky owner and I had to accept he would never be mine.

RebelandaStunner · 11/09/2016 12:55

I have two gorgeous dogs and would love more.
Funny I've never felt that about kids. Two has always been more than enough.

GinIsIn · 11/09/2016 13:00

YANBU at all! We already have one, and a human baby on the way, and I still want another one! I nearly stole a huge labradoodle from outside M&S earlier, because it was so pleased to see me! Grin

YourNewspaperIsShit · 11/09/2016 13:05

As long as all 4 paws are on the floor because people fussing my dog is why he jumps at strangers (he doesn't jump at anyone else ever, except people on dog walks because they give him positive attention for jumping)

YourNewspaperIsShit · 11/09/2016 13:06

And he's massive so it really sucks hurts

yes, yes you can Op I suggested it to my DS too who loves dogs and has moved away and is sometimes a bit homesick as a way for him to get out when his GF / friends are busy.

MissBeaHaving · 11/09/2016 13:34

Here's a pic of my boy for all you frenchie lovers.
He's such a character & always has us laughing.

BabyGanoush · 11/09/2016 13:37

Bluetongue, yes, pointy dogs (i.e. lurchers, greys, whippets) are addictive.

We have one, a lurcher who basically looks like a small greyhound. They are the best dogs. DH is already talking about getting another one, as surely 2 is even better than 1....

And OP, she would not jump up at you but she might roll over upon meeting you, waving a paw, indicating she would not mind a tummy rub...(bit embarrassing really, she's such a tart)

A bit like you, I had this fantasy of walking/running through the woods with a faithful companion by my side. The reality lived up to the expectation!
