To call 101?

There's a wedding opposite our house. It's on a sportsfield. It doesn't happen very often and usually it doesn't bother me.

But tonight it's really fricking loud. It sounds like the Radio One Roadshow and the mixing is shockingly bad.

I've got a poor sleeping 10 week old trying to get to sleep and I am horrendously sleep deprived.

I've tried calling the building with no reply and can't go over there with a baby.

WIBU to call 101?

YWBU it's a Saturday night and still early. I sympathise with you being sleep deprived though. It's awful.

It's not necessarily the time, it's the volume and the field is surrounded by houses on 3 sides...

They won't do anything. And noise concerns are environmental health, not the police I think. I sympathise, but they're not breaking any laws at 8:40pm.

It's way too early to get irate about this. You say you phoned the house, do you really think someone will stop their wedding party because you've got a 10 week old baby? Really?

It sucks for you but other people exist as well, the police will have no interest at all.

But - you are being terribly unreasonable. It's a Saturday night, not even 9pm and it's somebody's wedding!

Why not take your baby out for a walk in the pram/sling or a ride in the car? Get you both out of the house and stop you focussing on the party.

Do you have a relative whose house you could go to for the night? It's a bit rubbish you and baby are being disturbed but you are being unreasonable to complain at 8.30pm on a Saturday about someone's wedding party, sorry.

I don't want the noise turning off or the wedding stopping, I'm not a total dick - just to a level which is acceptable in the middle of a residential area.

It varies area to area but IME they cannot do anything. As pp said no laws are being broken here. There is not legal cut off time for loud music. Sure, it's anti social but this would only become a local police issue of it was happening regularly and causing community tension. However, if lots and lots of calls were being made and it was starting to raise tensions in the neighbourhood and they thought something would kick off they may consider sending someon round to politely ask to turn it down but that is very unlikely (but us happened)

Is the music really disturbing your baby? I would be surprised if it's the problem but can't understand how you are sleep deprived and angry. Unfortunately it's early and so YABU. The party will be over by 11 or midnight latest. I hope you both manage to get some decent sleep.

Sorry but YABU. I'm really noise sensitive myself so I know it's shitty but I think you have to just deal with it on this occasion.

If they're still going at midnight then you might have grounds for complaint... But would it even be the police who'd deal with it? It'd be the council round here and they'd do fuck all anyway

I don't think the police deal with noise complaints, so don't bother with 101. You need to contact your council's noise team / environmental health. If you think you'd like something done, especially if you think the music might carry on to the early hours, call the noise team now. It can take them an hour so to get to you, particularly because it's Saturday.

YABU it's only 9pm, it's a Saturday and its somebody's wedding! I'm sorry you're sleep deprived and I appreciate that it's annoying you but I think it would be selfish to put a damper on someone's special day. It's also a waste calling 101 when technically they aren't breaking any laws. It'll probably be quiet by 11ish.

It's just one night in your life, which will soon be forgotten. It's a night to remember, however, for the happy couple and their friends/family. Why would you spoil that by complaining? Not that the police would attend anyway!

Out of politeness they should really have put a note round the neighbours to let you all know a party was taking place and there would be noise until whatever time...

In answer to your question, no I wouldn't bother ringing 101 they won't do anything.
