To call 101?

There's a wedding opposite our house. It's on a sportsfield. It doesn't happen very often and usually it doesn't bother me.

But tonight it's really fricking loud. It sounds like the Radio One Roadshow and the mixing is shockingly bad.

I've got a poor sleeping 10 week old trying to get to sleep and I am horrendously sleep deprived.

I've tried calling the building with no reply and can't go over there with a baby.

WIBU to call 101?

I think that would be highly over the top.. Are you sure it's the noise thats keeping baby awake? I could hoover in the same room as my newborns and they'd sleep.. Of course every baby is different but they should settle eventually?

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 10/09/2016 21:19

Yeah well he/she can be awake and special!

And the wedding can go on...Smile

I have a loud neighbour, but it's 9pm. It's not even antisocial hours.
If it was 11pm or later then yes, but it's 9pm yabu.
Let them have their special day.

scoobyloobyloo · 10/09/2016 21:20

They've turned it down - so either someone at the party is on MN or someone else has been over to say something.

Wish I could Hoover whilst she sleeps instead of creeping round the house!

Weddings don't tend to go on too late, do they? There's usually a fairly firm cut off point - it's not like a student party which never fucking ends. Hang in there.

PurpleTango · 10/09/2016 21:22

As shitty as it is the Police wont do anything. You are allowed to make a noise unless between the hours of 11pm to 7 am (At least that's what I think it is. Haven't googled). The teeneage dirtbag living next door blasts music until 11pm. I cant do anything about it - even though my primary school aged children are kept awake - as he turns it off precisely at 11pm - Before I am within my rights to call the Police!

reallyanotherone · 10/09/2016 21:29

yep it's EH you need, not 101.

I tried ringing once about a party. Regular occurrence, fucking loud, and usually went on all night to about 8am. Could hear it streets away.

Problem is EH is only open in the day, until 11pm I think, if you're lucky. So by the time you realise the fuckers aren't going to shut up at a reasonable time EH is on answer machine and nobody will come out and deal with it.

You're obviously not aware from your question but calling 101 would be a waste of their time, that's not what they're there for. Unless you think there is something criminal going on. Call the local council's noise team instead, but they may not do anything untill 11pm unless it is dreadfully loud or they havent gotten permission to use the public space.

smokeybandit · 10/09/2016 21:32

PurpleTango is your neighbour in social housing? Causing noise nuisance repeatedly (excessively loud) is anti-social behaviour, no matter the time of day.

Bitlost · 10/09/2016 21:47

Poor you. It might be their wedding but it's your evening! Not sure whether 101 could do something but you should call the owners of the sports field to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Birdsgottafly · 10/09/2016 22:41

Purple, it's a myth that you can make as much noise as you like, until 11. If you make a complaint to EH, they will investigate and tell the offender what level of noise is acceptable.

You can't make noise, or have a dog barking that disturbs the enjoyment of your own property, regularly (within reason), any time of day.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 10/09/2016 23:03

Sounds like you're so sleep-deprived you've mislaid your sense of proportion. YABVU. It's one night.

Sorry you're so knackered. I sympathise. I used to work nights and the bloke downstairs would do incredibly noisy diy every weekend. His drill would wake me at 9am and I'd lie there and fantasize about murdering him.

But complaining would've been totally U. So I didn't.
