Just that really. Bunch of rude, lazy, entitled motherfuckers who wouldn't know an honest day's work if it hit them in the face.

They'd screw their own grandmothers for a quick sale but can't be bothered returning a phone call/turning up on time to a viewing.

The EA usually did the show rounds for us - I thought this would be for the best tbh, leave it to the professionals and all that. Occasionally they asked me to show people around, if they were all booked up - and I got offers on 2 out of the 3 people I showed around. Perhaps I should be an estate agent Grin

Just bought our first place. EA was a cock. However... They had a 'sales progressor' and she was lovely!

Have just moved house, our estate agent was brilliant and so bloody helpful. He did all the viewings and held our hand all the way.

You in the business Pan?

Nope, I'm an engineer, but I worked part time as one when I was student. Like any profession you get idiots and genuinely excellent people. I have rented, bought several times and have let properties out via estate agents. Sure I have encountered a few numpties and they are easy to spot, I have also had some excellent beyond the call of duty service over the years. Generally I find it is the small independents who offer the best service as much of their business is based on word of mouth and referrals, it is simply not worth their while to be crap. It's the high sales commission hot house outfits that tend to offer poor value (looking at you Foxtons).

My brief stint as an agent did show just how appallingly behaved both buyers and vendors can be, I am talking proper jaw dropping stuff (probably deserves its on thread). Of course it is the agent who has to pass on the bad news and more often then not it is them who get the blame or are assumed to be in collision with the vendor when a sale goes tits up.

The biscuit was for writing off an entire industry on the back of a poor service from one agent. You see plenty of threads on here with people venting about their recent visit to their GP but you don't label all doctors as cunts.

We once tried to buy off an estate agent who only seemed to acknowledge my husband when discussing viewing times, houses actually just about everything... I thought I was going mad till DH agreed post meeting and later told them that was the reason we're not dealing with them! He's a goodun !

The last time we moved it was the Estate Agents who facilitated the move because our conveyancing solicitor was a lazy bastard with a shithouse attitude. I thought the EAs were fantastic even if they laughed a bit that they'd only taken me to 30 houses before I bought one (they did I can't deny it)

We had a bad experience with a chain EA. Usual stuff- failing to turn up for viewings, failing to give ANY feedback on the (few) viewings they did do, turning up with potential purchasers at a time when we had specifically said we had guests and it wasn't convenient. They let us out of the contract after I sent an extensive and ranty email, saying that they 'had not met their usual high standards.' Too right.

We eventually went with one who had about six local branches. He was great, kept things on track when the purchasers were being dicks and the solicitor worse than useless.

Not all of them, we've brought and sold through one agent, and they were great! Having said that a lot of them are a bunch of wankers!

Here's an idea...
Maybe MNHQ could become an EA along with with being an Ad Agency?. Grin
