Spelling mistakes on social media

Am I wrong to be completely outraged by the spelling mistakes on social media? Why are there so many people who can't tell the difference between "two", "too" or "to" or "there" and "their". Another cause of massive aggravation to me is when someone says they are "on route" somewhere - oh my good God!!! And don't even get me started on the use of apostrophes!!!

This morning: "proberly" (instead of probably").

A couple of weeks ago there was an ad at the top of my Mumsnet page offering apartments in a 'sort after location'. Mistakes on Facebook are more understandable, but surely that must have passed through a copywriter and proof reader whose job it is to know these things.

I saw someone spell 'Voila' as 'Walla' once and nearly vomited. It was all I could do not to track them down and set them on fire.

Agree with the racist / bigot link to exceptionally bad English...

I was limping along Llandudno Pier the other week and took a rest on a lovely bench. Then I read the dedication. It was meant to say colleagues but it didn't. How can you misspell a memorial plaque, and let it stand? I didn't have the heart to take a picture.

Shouldn't this be in Pedants' Corner?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 09/09/2016 15:04

Well I think your all been ridiculous.

Somebody on facebook posted a picture of their birthday dinner and the caption "bone apple tea" instead of bon appétit. That one made me laugh grin

Honestly you couldn't make it up could you - such stupidity. It's not like bone apple tea means anything Grin

I loathe and detest could/would/should OF most of all - it makes my toes curl under and if I read it in an opening post I stop reading the thread.

I also hate the incorrect use of the word 'myself' as in 'myself, my DH and the DC went to the beach...' or on a tv cop show 'I must ask you to accompany myself to the police station' No, no, NO.

And the general torture of grammar and vocabulary such as 'he should of went to the doctor' and other similar delights.

Ok, I started this post, but after reading all your comments all I can think of is "mange tout, mange tout". What is wrong with me?
