Do I go drinking or do nothing?

I am in Newcastle tonight to attend a conference tomorrow. It's a small event and there will be a number of people there who I am good friends with and haven't seen for a while. I lived in Newcastle for 11 years (was a student here), and I miss the place so much. I have many, many fond memories and would move back in a heartbeat. I have 2 DD's and haven't had a night out in ages. Most evenings are spent getting homework done, telling DD2 to get back to bed, and putting up packed lunches. I currently have problems with the tendons along the base of my feet and they're aching like mad (having done some shopping Blush). The conference is all day tomorrow, followed by a meal at a nice restaurant, and I will have a chance to see everyone.

Friends attending the conference are meeting for a big night out tonight.

Do I:

  1. Take some painkillers, hit the toon, catch up with friends, and then drag my sorry ass to the conference at 9am tomorrow.
  2. Get room service, a glass of wine, watch TV and do absolutely nothing.

Votes please Grin

Number 2 sounds like a dream :)

LaContessaDiPlump · 08/09/2016 17:47

I warn you op, I pushed myself to the limit staying out 'til all hours at a conference once; weirdly, it ended up throwing my cycle out of whack by about 2 weeks and I might have inadvertently conceived my first child as a direct result Blush he was a bit unexpected!!

I blame that conference - let this be a warning!

Still go out, obvs, but don't be an idiot like me Grin

rookiemere · 08/09/2016 17:47

It depends what you'd rather do. Having a luxury night to yourself doing nothing is also a big treat and if you did that then you do both as #1 tomorrow night and #2 tonight.

BlackCatSleeps · 08/09/2016 17:48

Well it would be two for me! I think us two-types are less likely to muster the energy to post.

LaContessaDiPlump · 08/09/2016 17:48

I should add, he's 5 now Grin

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 08/09/2016 17:50

1 of course
You will seriously regret it if you stay in!

Soggywellies · 08/09/2016 17:50

Number 2. Why on earth would you want to be hung over at a conference when you can have a relaxing evening to yourself and a good night's sleep? Sounds like heaven!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/09/2016 17:51

Number 1 - no contest.

I would go with 2 on the basis that two nights on the pop will have you feeling rotten as hell!

JudyCoolibar · 08/09/2016 18:01

No.1, but maybe don't stay too late. Then perhaps you can give yourself an hour or two of No. 2 as well.

salemtheteenagecat · 08/09/2016 18:04

Sorry it seems you have spent too long not being in the toon and years ago there would never have been an option 2! Go out and have an amazing night on the toon!!! Ps they still don't wear coats just so you don't out yourself Wink

user1473353506 · 08/09/2016 18:07

Gurrrrrllll go out and enjoy yourself , just no seflies [grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 08/09/2016 18:08

Option 1, but I think we all know there is not going to be "one or two glasses of wine and then I'll turn in." Grin

..It's going to be messy.

xexxsy · 08/09/2016 18:11

The ONLY way to get through a work conference is with the hangover from Hell.

Everyone else will be the same, though pretending they are not. lol.

The voice of experience here. I managed to give a talk in Madrid after a lunch that included a FULL bottle of wine per person, ( I didn't HAVE to drink it, but I did what the Spanish boss did of course, anything else would have rude about their wonderful hospitality, hic!)

They are like that over there, great country, they know! They even had Baileys coffee for the morning tea break for gods sake. So when in Rome....

Get a few bevvys in, after that you won't even notice the pain in your tendons.

A free night! do NOT pass go.

RestlessTraveller · 08/09/2016 20:14

Get yourself oot. You'll be amazed how much the place has changed in 11 years. We have some quite classy bars now. Go the Pleased To Meet You for some world class gin, The Botanist for some quite amazing plant based cocktails, Hoochie Coochie for a boogie then round it off with an Old Fashioned at Tokyo. Bliss.

whatishistory · 08/09/2016 22:31

Well, I'm back in the hotel and ready for bed. Various problems with public transport/work/other stuff meant that quite a few people couldn't make it. Quite pissed off as it's turned into neither one nor t'other.

I've decided to sleep in and go to the conference late. I'll stop and have a nice coffee and cake before heading in, too.
