Do I go drinking or do nothing?

I am in Newcastle tonight to attend a conference tomorrow. It's a small event and there will be a number of people there who I am good friends with and haven't seen for a while. I lived in Newcastle for 11 years (was a student here), and I miss the place so much. I have many, many fond memories and would move back in a heartbeat. I have 2 DD's and haven't had a night out in ages. Most evenings are spent getting homework done, telling DD2 to get back to bed, and putting up packed lunches. I currently have problems with the tendons along the base of my feet and they're aching like mad (having done some shopping Blush). The conference is all day tomorrow, followed by a meal at a nice restaurant, and I will have a chance to see everyone.

Friends attending the conference are meeting for a big night out tonight.

Do I:

  1. Take some painkillers, hit the toon, catch up with friends, and then drag my sorry ass to the conference at 9am tomorrow.
  2. Get room service, a glass of wine, watch TV and do absolutely nothing.

Votes please Grin

Number 2 Grin

ImperialBlether · 08/09/2016 17:20

Oh come on, OP - get your glad rags on, alternate alcohol with soft drinks and have a lovely night!

newmumwithquestions · 08/09/2016 17:21

It's not a real conference if you aren't hungover and struggling the following day!

Gizlotsmum · 08/09/2016 17:21

Number 1... You can always bail out early if the pain is too bad!

TheLastNameLeft · 08/09/2016 17:22

Go out and meet for a couple of hours then get back for an early (ish) night..that's what I would do. Depends on how strict you can be with yourself after the loaded question "Oh go on, just one more wont hurt"

2kids2dogsnosense · 08/09/2016 17:24

1 !!!!!!!!

There is no party city quite like Newcastle!

Would it have to be a pub crawl, though, or could you all just have a rollicking good time in a single pub (sit in the corner, have a natter, get the dominoes out . . . Grin)and then go somewhere for food? Then, if your feet are still knacking you, you can say ta-ra and go back to your hotel while the rest of them gan clubbin'. It is CRIMINAL not to enjoy the Toon while you have the chance.

(I am a proud native of that good city, if you wonder why I'm so keen.)

Waltermittythesequel · 08/09/2016 17:27

One!!!

Get out and live a little!

TheNaze73 · 08/09/2016 17:30

Option 1. Get on it.

Queenbean · 08/09/2016 17:30

One!!!

Conferences are for the most part utterly shit and all about the networking. What better networking is there than networking the inside of your stomach with the toilet bowl?

Twiceover · 08/09/2016 17:31

1!!!! I was also a student there and would love a night out getting mortal in the toon!

TeaRexit · 08/09/2016 17:31

3: Go out & have 1 wine Grin

SquidgyRedBall · 08/09/2016 17:32

Which would you regret not doing more?

MumUndone · 08/09/2016 17:33

You must go out! Love, love, love Newcastle.

Mileymoocow · 08/09/2016 17:34

Being from Newcastle I say you have to go out! There's nowt quite like the toon - get away down the quayside and avoid the bigg market

whatishistory · 08/09/2016 17:35

Party animals Grin

2kids, i spent this afternoon feeling very jealous of people who have jobs and lives here. The chances of a job coming up for me in the area is pretty much zero.

No.1! Everyone's hungover on the second day of a conference.

KeiD · 08/09/2016 17:35

Another vote for option 1, go out and gave great evening

KeiD · 08/09/2016 17:36

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 08/09/2016 17:36
  1. Leave early if needs be!
MyKingdomForBrie · 08/09/2016 17:38

Number 1 and get on it!!!!

whatishistory · 08/09/2016 17:42

There is, of course, a big piss up planned for tomorrow night as well. It's a very small 'conference' (about 25 people, mostly postgraduates) & I know almost everyone so there is very little pressure to perform.

OP posts:
oldlaundbooth · 08/09/2016 17:43

Er, #1 of course.

Tomorrow night won't be as good as everyone'll be hungover.

MoosLikeJagger · 08/09/2016 17:44

Definitely 1. Think of it as a rehearsal for tomorrow.

mamalovesmojitos · 08/09/2016 17:45

1, of course! Enjoy WineEnvySmile

Waltermittythesequel · 08/09/2016 17:45

So go out tonight. Don't go too mad. Take some paracetemol and water before you sleep.

Then you'll be fighting fit for tomorrow too!
