Sorry - I wasn't having a dig at those who mentioned lack of pay for holidays. I completely understand that argument and it doesn't bother me. It was more that I get paid more for long hours - teachers don't get paid enough IMO.

Oh Believeitornot, it was dailyarsewipe's post I was quoting, not yours. My mistake.

Tbh the number of threads I see from state sector teachers who appear to dislike their jobs, many of their pupils and the parents is seriously making me think about privately educated DD for secondary school.

I totally get that it is a difficult job and a minority of the kids and parents are challenging but it's almost made out that every single day is tortuous. I'd feel very sad if my child's teacher was on here bitching about her class and parents.

Do you seriously think private school teachers don't have many of the same complaints? Grin

I'm amazed by how well-organised schools are on the whole, with the odd blip. They could do with better systems for letting them store flexible data like who should be contacted in an emergency. I remember having a word to explain that, as I'd written on the contact form, on Mon/Wed/Fri there was no point calling me as I'd be in a building with no mobile reception and I'd be 90 min away, so to call MrNC who would be near home.

Apparently their database could only cope with one emergency number so if someone on the front desk was asked to call someone for MiniCitrus, they'd call the default number (now changed to be MrNC's mobile). Only if the person knew our family would they get out the paper form and call the most productive number (or arrange for the miniCitruses to go home with one of the 25 permitted people I wrote down - most of those are other parents).

At least when there was a real emergency it worked OK - MrNC arrived just after the ambulance and dc2 was able to stay late until I got there.

Its other parents fussing about homework thats annoying me. Now our yr 2 kids have to read atleast 2 books, do 10 spellings plus a bit of maths or english homework a week. You would think the teachers have set them up to do A Levels!

LOL. More I expect, given the parents feel they are the ones paying and thus are justified in make demands :)

I worked at a private school for years. It was like a totally different job. There were a few tricky parents but not many at all. In spite of the fact that they were paying hefty fees they were almost all supportive, complimentary and grateful for what we did. Everything else about the job was a piece of cake compared with any of the state schools I've worked in. The only teachers who ever really complained were the ones who had only ever worked in private schools.

I think it seems disproportionate here. I have about 200 kids under my pastoral responsibility and can only think of a small handle of families I find difficult or frustrating. We wouldn't do the job otherwise. I don't teach (so many other school roles now besides teachers and admin...) but I do think for some teachers, days can be torturous!! A lot of days! But they're still passionate. Don't let this out you off :-)
