To ask what's the most "grown-up" TV show your tweens and teens watch?

I'm really interested to hear what your 12-13 year olds are watching.

I have a 12 year old who adores Ru Paul's Drag Race.

It's a good show in many ways...quite educational and with great messages about working hard, expressing yourself etc.

I think a lot of the innuendo goes right over her head but some of it is pretty bloody racy really....the age advisory on it is 15 and she's very mature...

From watching it she's learned about HIV and also about the gay community and their struggle in society in general.

She's also learned some great philosophies...the show is full of good advice for kids who don't quite "fit in" which DD doesn't to be fair.

She seems to find it hilarious and inspirational....I want to know what your kids the same age are watching and also if people think AIBU to let her watch it.

There's a lot of swearing really but then...I'd rather she heard a few F words than watched violent stuff.

My DC (13 and 11) watch Everybody Loves Raymond. Obviously I talked with them beforehand about the mild sexual innuendos. It's a great comedy. I cried when I found out that Doris Roberts (Marie) died.

It's on Channel 4 every weekday morning.

Ds is 15,Walking Dead is a big hit in this house!

Dd 13 watches Great British Bake Off it's the only TV she watches. She hasn't watched TV in years since she outgrew CBBC. I did wonder if she would be left out when her friends talked about TV but it hasn't been an issue. In fact the only time she has struggled was in French at school when they had to write a piece based on X Factor or Britain's got talent and she didn't have a clue about the format so the teacher told her to make it up.

My 7yr old loves Primevil. Am I a bad mum for allowing him to watch this? He's just obsessed with Dinos. He constantly watches Jurassic Park/World too.

Dd loves Walking Dead and Dance Moms. She doesn't watch it any more but she watched an episode of Lardashians and found out what camel toe is.

My dd aged 13 is obsessed with the Vampire Diaries, as are all her friends. I watched season 1 with her and got bored but she loves it. It does have some sex ish scenes but nothing a 12a or mild 15 wouldn't have.

She also loves stranger things on Netflix at the moment. Perfect tween / teen series as long as they don't mind a bit of scariness.

5yo ds likes friends. Most of it is over his head, he has a bit of a crush on Phoebe, but other than that I'm not really sure what he gets out of it tbh.

Oh all this makes me feel a bit better about my lax parenting!

My 12yo likes Dragons Den, The Apprentice and GBBO.

She also likes Octonauts.

DD2 (13) watches almost nothing but crime shows: from fairly tame ones like Poirot and Father Brown through Death in Paradise to US things like Castle, Rizzoli and Isles, and Major Crimes. I have told her that I would be happier for her to be 15 before she watches the more violent shows like CSI and Criminal Minds. Bones is a possibility - although it's quite gory the overall tone is similar to Castle in that it's quite comic. SVU is my personal favourite and I've mixed feelings about what age to let her watch it.

DD1 is 17 and her viewing is not censored. She tends to watch historical dramas and documentaries.

DD(13) is obsessed with NCIS atm. She loves the murder bits and ignores the relationship bits (also watches CSI, Criminal Minds)

DS is almost 13 and he's watched lots of comedy that my parents wouldn't have considered suitable: 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Mock the Week, Taskmaster, and this Saturday just gone he watched Blazing Saddles with us. I explained the language and colloquialisms as something his great grandma would say, but everything in context. He loved Bottom and Bad Education.

They watch very little tv by their own choice. Youngest loves The Walking Dead and That 70's Show. I think the eldest occasionally watches The X Files on Netflix.

My 6yo loves Modern Family. My mother doesn't approve at all. I asked DD why she liked it and she said because of the children in it, so I am hoping the more adult themes go over her head a bit.

The only one I refused to let her watch was one where it seemed to be about to involve the tooth fairy and I was worried they would blow the secret - never watched it to find out.

I am fairly sure I am a bad parent though so this will just be one more thing to add to the list.

My son is nearly 12 he watches lots of pokemon 😂 he has recently started watching supernatural but I think that's fine. I said wouldn't let him watch walking dead yet manly because not so long ago he saw a strange shadow in his room and hit under his duvet crying until I eventually saw his sos text message and went up to rescue him from the shadow wardrobe monster that made a weird noise (later turned out to be a bus). I think he will stick to pokemon and supernatural for now criminal minds and walking dead may damage him 😂😂

My ds 15 loves prison break and dd 14 lives once upon a time

DS is nearly 13 and likes hollyoaks, casualty, dragons den, GBBO and a lot of the hospital documentaries like 999 what's your emergency

He's also watched most of the documentary channels since he was about 6

11yr old loves GBBO, Csi and our mega fav The Walking Dead (was allowed to watch season 5 this year so we have started at the begining for him lately and we have great discussions about what they are doing and why, relationships between them all, 'bad people' etc)

Eldest (14) loves Family Guy and American dad, The Walking Dead. Doesnt really watch much tv, more into you tube vids these days.

My 12 yr old loves Dragon's Den, GBBO, Fake Britain, Corrie(!) , Sewing Bee. 15 yr old not really into TV but likes GBBO.

My tween dd loves Big Bang Theory and Doc Martin. We totally understand Sheldon, the way he operates and why. She insists putting them on & find them amusing. She also likes Hotel Inspector & Murder She Wrote.

DD also loves Charmed which I used to love pre-child, now she loves watching it and i drop everything i do and join her in the world of Charmed.

Ilike You just reminded me, she loves Doc Martin and Hotel Inspector and so do I!

Our 11-year-olds currently love Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy and American Dad. They also enjoyed Bad Education. They've adored Big Bang Theory since they were nine. Oh, and we sometimes watch 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown together. Out of all those, it's only really Family Guy and American Dad that I would probably rather they didn't watch (although I don't feel strongly enough to forbid them - and consequently, make them more appealing). They know I think Seth MacFarlane is a dick, and they can spot the dickish elements of the programmes, so I comfort myself with the hope that maybe they'll grow out of them just as a lot of their peers are getting started...

With movies, my current rule is 12-rated ones are ok. 15-rated ones have to be run past me (and the answer is usually 'no' - although we did enjoy Shaun of the Dead the other weekend). Anything above that is a 'no way'.

chopstick17 do you also talk/lecture throughout some scenes like I do? I noticed lately that I impose my own opinions onto her quite strongly and perhaps I should let her watch things in peace a bit. She hasn't complained, it's just me noticing my own voice when examples of women being put down, automatically expected to do certain things etc etc. Does anyone makes comments like I do?
