I aways put dark chocolate in chilli, but the only other one I fancy is goats cheese in an omelette.

peaceloveandshitmoms · 01/09/2016 23:18

The Greek yoghurt pasta bake is nice, but really not that wacky.
Peaches and ham on pizza is just silly.
Curry powder in fish pie would be a bit like kedgeree, which is heavenly, so I might try that one.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/09/2016 23:19

The thing that bugs me is that half of them aren't exactly 'twists', are they?

I mean ... curry with fish, you don't say?! It's almost like there's a word for that dish that's been a British classic for two hundred years, and has fish pie ingredients plus curry spices. Oh yes, kedgeree.

Either they're so obvious you already know them, or they're just bizarre.

Kallyno · 01/09/2016 23:22

Mmmm, they all sound delish!
One of my favourite puddings is decent vanilla ice cream with a spoonful of balsamic vinegar poured over. Heaven.

Boogers · 01/09/2016 23:22

Coffee granules in a Bolognese sauce really does work. Something to do with cutting through the acidity of the tomatoes.

user1470849338 · 01/09/2016 23:26

Peach on a pizza can sod right off. Curry in a fish pie and the coconut I'll accept. But peach on a pizza is wrong and nasty.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/09/2016 23:26

I nearly vomited in the fruit and veg aisle when the tannoy person announced peaches on pizza last week. As if pineapple isn't bad enough. Fruit has no place in a savoury meal.

5Foot5 · 01/09/2016 23:28

Are you for real? I don't think they are so way out there at all.

I have always put curry powder in fish pie. That is not even a little twist, it is a classic combination. Smoked fish, egg and curry = kedgeree. I am pretty sure Delia has a fish pie recipe which uses curry powder. Yes it must be Delia because i have been doing that for years.

Horse radish - useful relish in all sorts of things. I often use it in mashed potatoes.

And I used the instant coffe idea in spag bol and it works.

Go with it!

Ilovetorrentialrain · 01/09/2016 23:28

Agree OP. And they need to stop calling macaroni cheese mac n cheese immediately!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 01/09/2016 23:29

I am more distressed with Jarvis selling out and advertising their shitty recipe ideas.

5Foot5 · 01/09/2016 23:30

Oh and as for dessicated coconut in vegetable curry - not quite the same but I always had a tin of coconut milk to mine. Another good combination

Hillfarmer · 01/09/2016 23:39

Something so patronisingly naff about those 'twists' that it makes me want to head straight to Tesco's. God they're annoying. I'll do what I like with your stupid food after I've bought it, thanks very much.

Come to think of it, anything that comes 'with a twist' makes me want to strangle something. Whether its food or interior design. Yes, I'd like to see your neck 'with a twist' just to give it a modern touch. Oooh Fuck off with yer fucking twists!

And don't get me started on (B)Oak Furniture Land. Yes, you can still make really disgusting furniture even if it's solid oak you know. Amazing, but true.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/09/2016 23:42

Oh, and the instant coffee thing has definitely been around since the 70s - I have old (crappy) cookbooks to prove it. It's a bit like claiming you're so amazing these days, because you can't cook a decent pulled pork so instead you use coke for the marinade.

EverySongbirdSays · 01/09/2016 23:46

I've done the Chorizo in Lasagne one and it's amazing - coffee in spag does sound awful though, but I may try it now there's votes here

rubbishbin · 01/09/2016 23:51

Pear and Gorgonzola pizza is nice though!

glueandstick · 01/09/2016 23:52

The sausage and pesto one looked utterly disgusting. It really looks like they have pulled ingredients out of a hat.

Mince and jam? Sold. Next. Blue cheese and haribo?

BitOutOfPractice · 01/09/2016 23:56

I always read the ads as "little twats"

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/09/2016 23:57
Grin
xmasadsboohiss · 02/09/2016 00:02

Hillfarmer - you've hit the nail on the head! The patronising tone is harder to swallow than the boak recipe ideas.

NewBallsPlease00 · 02/09/2016 00:18

Why is peach on a pizza any different to pineapple?

confuugled1 · 02/09/2016 00:23

Ah, have to disagree with the fruit on pizza thing. Best pizza I ever had was in France several years ago - pizza base, cream cheese/creme fraiche mix instead of tomato sauce, with wonderful ham, silky caramelised onions, rocket (uncooked) and thin slices of melon.

On a really hot day it was perfection!

Crunchymum · 02/09/2016 06:48

Dark chocolate (with a high percentage cocoa) is a common ingredient in chilli. I didn't realise it was one of Sainburys 'little twists' ?

DeadGood · 02/09/2016 06:54

Oh lord. People, you need to get out more.

As a couple of other posters have said, these are all tried and tested combinations. The worst I can say about them is that sainsburys didn't come up with them - but then they are not claiming to.

I find it so weird the way people from small towns in the UK get so het up about food combinations

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2016 06:55

Like others, they're not original 'little twists' are they?

Chocolate in chilli
Curry powder in a fish pie
Horse radish does boost flavour.

They'll be telling us to put English mustard in our cheese sauce next.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2016 06:58

DeadGood how can you claim to know if posters are from small towns?, what an odd thing to say?
