To ask dp to keep his shirt on?

He's such a lovely man but has this real 'thing' about taking his shirt off whenever there's a bit of sun.

We were walking his dog on Monday in a local stately home/gardens and - shirt off. Sit outside in a beer garden? Shirt off. Outdoor concert? Off comes the shirt!

I hate it. I find it trashy Blush and just, I don't know, a bit crude really.

I've asked him to keep it on and he will but makes it clear he doesn't want to.

AIBU?

Yy to all the 'keep your shirt on' posts above. It's trashy and suggests drunkenness and yobbery to me anywhere other than beach/pool

HermioneJeanGranger · 31/08/2016 20:25

YY it's not necessary and really, it's NOT THAT HOT.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 31/08/2016 20:30

YANBU. Other than on a beach, poolside or own garden I think it's pretty tacky.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/08/2016 20:33

Emma you didn't say that? Now the naysayers and nudists will arrive.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 31/08/2016 20:38

YANBU

NameChange30 · 31/08/2016 20:38

It's ok, I've got my buns at the ready Grin

Sparklingbrook · 31/08/2016 20:38

T shirt in one hand, can of Tennents Extra in the other. Lovely.

Also white van men tend to go topless. All sitting in a row in the front. I wonder about seatbelts and chafing. Sad

QuintessentialShadow · 31/08/2016 20:41

With Vitamin D deficiency on the rise it is necessary for everybody to go semi naked. Especially in Scotland. Anywhere else, these men should be locked into a man boob creche.

friendlyfoxes · 31/08/2016 20:42

It's kind of funny when they get a white stripe across their bellies where the seatbelt was though Grin

An ex of mine once wore Speedos and nothing else on a day trip in Portugal.

They were purple and tiny and ex had a big dick stealth boast bizarro

You can imagine how stupid he looked.

He looked ridiculous. He didn't put shorts or a shirt on all day BlushConfusedHmm

Katinkka · 31/08/2016 20:54

How embarrassing. Yanbu!

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 31/08/2016 21:01

My friend calls Manboobs "chippy tits"

I laughed for about 15mins on repeat when she told me

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/08/2016 21:07

An enormous cock is small comfort when having to deal with purple speedos.

TheTedium · 31/08/2016 21:25

This has amused me no end. Like a 'Little Britain' sketch, I have an image of the OP and torso-baring husband doing that hushed tones thing in the corridors of a stately home, "that's a marvellous bit of Ming"
Both marvelling at the Ming, only the husband is shirtless.

exWifebeginsat40 · 31/08/2016 21:38

men with their tops off is awful. nobody came to tesco hoping to see your weird nipples. ugh.

Oysterbabe · 31/08/2016 21:46

Sun's out, guns out. But nobody needs to see the whole shebang.

iwouldgoouttonight · 31/08/2016 21:56

Is he Martin from Friday Night Dinner?

happystory · 31/08/2016 21:59

You need one of those signs you see in pubs 'shirts must be worn' Grin

HermioneJeanGranger · 01/09/2016 08:45

Is he Martin from Friday Night Dinner?

YY. Is he "bloody boiling tonight!"?

Birdsgottafly · 01/09/2016 09:01

"My friend calls Manboobs "chippy tits""

My Son In Law has gone through three operations on the NHS, to get his removed (they wanted to do it, for research etc). His was caused through medical reasons, he has another condition, as well. He went to the Linda McCartney Centre, which sees a lot of Men with conditions, other than male breast cancer.

Generally men should keep their shirts on. However I hate tank tops/sleeveless t-shirts. So, unlike Women, under my rules, they don't have the same choices, as us. Along a beach/pier/through a camp site, fine. In a building, then No.

Fluffyears · 01/09/2016 09:09

Taps oan!

Nataleejah · 01/09/2016 10:21

Meh

Yes, its still a sexist thing that women cannot do the same, but actually i can't be bothered by shirtless men in public. Unless they're totally gorgeous and its difficult not to stare. Grin

LemonBreeland · 01/09/2016 10:26

Love the consensus on this thread. I agree that it doesn't even matter if they have a fit body, it still looks trashy.

Sparklingbrook · 01/09/2016 10:28

Yes I don't care whether Adonis like or not I don't think it's necessary or want to see it. Plus I wouldn't want to do it myself even if I could.

MLGs · 01/09/2016 10:31

I agree it's trashy and I don't like it. Particularly because women aren't free to do the same, but also just because it's "too much". It ain't that hot in the UK, there's no need.

Disclaimer - this is not a call for men taking their tops off to be banned or anyone to approach them with guns on a beach. I just don't like it myself.
