Fox wandered into my living room last night

Yelled at it so it retreated (rather slowly). Shut door between house and conservatory ... And 2 mins later saw had wandered back into conservatory, as casual as you like!

AIBU to call for best ways to deter foxes? Do not want him wandering on in!

Live in Richmond, London btw so this is a semi urban fox ....

Pinot that's why foxes have become so bloody bold, because of complete idiots like your neighbours. What a pair of bellends.

We live in the cuntry and I'm a real lefty but hate foxes and don't mind the farmers killing them. I draw the line at the horsebacked, red-coated aristos though.

kirinm · 30/08/2016 20:48

Terrifying. We've got 4 living under a shed at the back of the garden. (We moved in a week ago and nobody mentioned the foxes).

I'm worried my cat will not be one of the tough ones but one of the ones that get eaten.

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2016 20:48

I don't like the idea of the Hunting types but something really needs to be done. As a PP said we are losing our freedom because of these animals.

Idiot. We've invaded their territory, not the other way round.

The National Fox Welfare group will bring a humane cage and remove it. Search them on Facebook. They took away a very sick fox from our stables. If it's not shy, it may have toxoplasmosis, which affects the brain and makes them seem friendly. Very common issue.

curlywillow · 30/08/2016 20:48

We have chickens and when we first got them we were all quite protective of them and paranoid about the foxes getting them. One of my favourite memories was hearing squawking in the chicken coop one morning as a fox got too close and DH racing outside stark naked shouting "aargh!" and charging at the fox to scare him away.

The fox just looked at him as if he was mad and then turned and slowly walked away. It was as though he felt sorry for the loud naked lunatic.

LittleBeautyBelle · 30/08/2016 20:48

With Joffrey

Love foxes. My son would want him to stay haha. Adorable. Our cats on the other hand...

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 30/08/2016 20:51

We have lots of foxy visitors and I've seen a fox turn tail and leg it away from a cat! They're not bothered by us but our Jack Russell can make them think twice!
I like foxes - I like all wildlife actually and I have never at any time felt as though my freedom was being eroded. That has to be just about the most ridiculous thing I've read on MN - and I've seen quite a bit of outrageous shite here!

dybil · 30/08/2016 20:52

Clearly it's time we just killed every animal that isn't convenient to humans. Losing our precious freedoms to these monsters Sad

Hmm
AngelsWithSilverWings · 30/08/2016 20:52

Same happened to me last night. I was sitting in the dark reading on my iPad and I heard the fox jumping over the garden fence. It walked up to the patio doors and went to come straight in. I hissed at it and it ran away.

They really are quite bold where I live. I often have one sleeping on my summer house roof in the middle of the day.

EttaJ · 30/08/2016 20:53

cherry exactly!

AlfrescoBalconyWanker · 30/08/2016 20:54

We are cursed with suburban foxes. Loud shagging bin bag ripping tossers. Can't leave shoes out in the garden or they chew them. They crap on top of footballs. Or in the middle of the back door mat. Or in the middle of the front door mat. If they could leave a "fuck you" shaped shit they would.

I have, on occasion, ran directly at them, at speed, whilst yelling at the top of my voice. Only for them to start running towards me Shock

amidawish · 30/08/2016 20:56

those of you who like foxes come and clear up the fox shit by my recycling bins.

those who feed them, WTAF !!

there's no point shooting them apparently, another one will just move in to the territory. one fox per square km in semi-urban areas (like richmond) apparently.

Sara107 · 30/08/2016 20:56

Could you get one of those ultra sonic animal deterrents? Stationed outside your conservatory door might put it off approaching. I have one to discourage my darling cat and her feline friends from shitting all over the garden, and it does seem to work. Drives 6 yr old dD insane as well, but us oldies can't hear the high frequency any more.

Temporaryanonymity · 30/08/2016 20:57

I found a dead fox in my garden last year. That was a bit of a pain to dispose of; the council will only remove dead animals from the roadside, not those found in gardens. I had to move it to the street and then ring them to say I'd found it on the road.

ladyjadey · 30/08/2016 20:59

You haven't answered the burning question.........what does the fox say??

SilverHawk · 30/08/2016 21:03

Would it be worth contacting Kew Gardens and ask their advice? I bet they have a fair few foxes.

UnderseaPineapple · 30/08/2016 21:06

I give local foxes mange treatments.

SilverHawk · 30/08/2016 21:10

I hate seeing them with mange. I can recognise one of last years' cubs and it's already limping and lost half of it's tail. No sign of mange yet though.
Does mange kill?

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2016 21:11

I gave a fox mange treatment too. They die a slow painful death if left.

RachelRagged · 30/08/2016 21:12

I found a dead fox in my front garden earlier in the year but council came out, although I don't know if that's because part was on the pavement

TheBouquets · 30/08/2016 21:13

Etta it was not me that thought we are losing our freedom because of foxes that was a previous poster to me. I was repeating her statement.
I do not have open doors at my house because that is not safe from a burglary or intruder point of view.
I would not want a fox in my house. I don't want them in my garden digging tunnels
So Etta please get your fact right before criticising another member and I would suggest you get your own hysteria into order before accusing others.

Cherrysoup · 30/08/2016 21:14

Mange won't usually kill unless the fox has a compromised immune system and everything is going to pot. Again, NFWS will send out free mange treatments or rescue sick foxes.

serialtester · 30/08/2016 21:14

Because of foxes I'm not allowed to vote, my husband owns me and I can't LTB.

Damn foxes removing my freedoms. Thank fuck for brexit.

Loadingpleasewait · 30/08/2016 21:16

I love foxes. Beautiful animals. They are way better than a lot of people.

TheLegendOfBeans · 30/08/2016 21:19

Hassled do you live in SW London? Boldest wildlife I've ever encountered. Not at all shocked by (Richmond-based) OP's original post. Now waiting for someone to post about the the squirrels of Hampton Wick annexing their back garden or something
