Fox wandered into my living room last night

Yelled at it so it retreated (rather slowly). Shut door between house and conservatory ... And 2 mins later saw had wandered back into conservatory, as casual as you like!

AIBU to call for best ways to deter foxes? Do not want him wandering on in!

Live in Richmond, London btw so this is a semi urban fox ....

We had one under the grand piano who was very reluctant to leave last summer. We took a broom to the area and 'swept' him out through the French doors.

We had a frog in the kitchen this evening. Much more acceptable!

PitchFork · 30/08/2016 20:30

I'm afraid you need to keep the door closed.
those pesky things are fearless.
my neighbour got her favourite shoes stolen by a fox.

CafeCremeEtCroissant · 30/08/2016 20:31

I love foxes, but on MY terms, not theirs & my terms do not include 'making themselves at home in the lounge' 😁 We had one that came in the garden everynight & we'd happily go out into the garden if he was there, but I'd even have been wary if he'd come into the house.

TheBouquets · 30/08/2016 20:31

Foxes do not seem to realise that they are unwelcome!
I have found wire mesh to be quite good. They don't like it for some reason.
I hate foxes and the bleeding hearts who think they are the poor wee souls in all this are extremely irritating.
I don't like the idea of the Hunting types but something really needs to be done. As a PP said we are losing our freedom because of these animals.

OlennasWimple · 30/08/2016 20:31

Cats and foxes rub alongside each other; dogs and foxes will fight

Not sure I'd want to get a dog just to deter a fox, mind you. Perhaps if I was already considering it I'd bring the plans forward, but would want a dog not a puppy.

Worth mentioning it to the council in case there's a bigger problem?

timelytess · 30/08/2016 20:33

You need a man to pee around your garden. That puts them off. Very little else bothers them. There are things like this, chosen at random (other devices are available) fox-off stuff but I've never heard anyone say that they work.

Thecontentedcat · 30/08/2016 20:33

Oh and get dh to we around the garden, that worked with badgers for us

PikachuSayBoo · 30/08/2016 20:34

Urine deters foxes.

You need to piss on your carpets.

yumyumlama · 30/08/2016 20:35

Now I love the idea of getting DH to do a wee ring!!

Fucking HELLLLL that's horrific. Next thing you know it'll be kicking back in your favourite chair, drinking a gin and tonic and insisting on watching the golf. Takes the piss.

Grin

I literally LOL'ed.

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2016 20:36

Sparklingcat decides whether or not our visiting fox is allowed into the garden. Depends on her mood.

It is quite timid though and dashes off if it sees a human.

DubiousCredentials · 30/08/2016 20:39

As a PP said we are losing our freedom because of these animals. HmmHmmHmm

OrsonWellsHat · 30/08/2016 20:40

fox stole my neighbors favourite shoes Grin

isthistoonosy · 30/08/2016 20:41

Fyi we have two.hunting dogs and OH and the boy wee outside most days and we still have a resident fox every winter. Although he hasn't come in the house yet just onto the patio.
Our first one gave himself an electric ago from an outside cable which defiantly got rid of him. Not sure how we deal with the next one - gun maybe Wink

acasualobserver · 30/08/2016 20:42

I think there are people who will come and shoot them. Contact the council for advice.

I would shoot them myself if I was allowed a gun. They are no more acceptable than rats IMO and I cannot fathom why some absolute tits actually feed them.

LoveInTokyo · 30/08/2016 20:42

Once a fox came into my house and started trying on all my clothes. The cheek of it.

PinotAndPlaydough · 30/08/2016 20:42

I've no suggestions but I'll be watching this. We live in a small block of flats that has a lovely communal garden that the ground floor flats open on to, it's two block next to each other and a few nights ago I watched a couple tempting a fox to their door with bits of ham Hmm the people on the ground floor next to them have two small children and often leave their door open in the evening. My husband had to stop me shouting off the balcony at them that about how stupid they were being. God forbid that fox goes into the other flat. Angry

isthistoonosy · 30/08/2016 20:42

Ago - shock

Seekingadvice123 · 30/08/2016 20:42

As a PP said we are losing our freedom because of these animals.

W the actual F!!!!
Staggering level of utter bollox.

EttaJ · 30/08/2016 20:43

Really bouquets Losing our freedom because of these creatures 😂

Such hysteria. Shut the fucking doors people.

Hassled · 30/08/2016 20:43

I tried to scare off a fox in the garden recently - it looked at me in a "WTF's your problem, you silly woman?" sort of way. It was a fox with attitude.

I do like foxes - or at least the concept of foxes. But not actually in my house. I think I read that they are creatures of habit - you might need to shut doors until it has a new routine/nightly patrol.

toffeeboffin · 30/08/2016 20:44

'You need to piss on your carpets'

newmumwithquestions · 30/08/2016 20:44

My cat used to chase foxes. She wasnt a big cat but had the the temper of a hungover purple minion.
