If DD doesn't stop fucking BREATHING SO LOUDLY I'm going to hit something.

She has a bit of a cold. Her response to this is to huff and puff and breathe heavily. I'm pretty sure at this point she's doing it on purpose. I got up and left the room and she followed me. I actually want to cry.

This is horrible. I've asked her to try and breathe normally and she's lost her shit with me and screamed 'oh so I'm not even allowed to BREATHE now'. So now we're both ragey.

Sorry didn't see your update about your condition, please accept my apologies op.

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:52

Yes yes! DD did that exact coughing thing. My dad does it as well.

I think she did it on purpose so much that it became a habit she couldn't break. She also did a weird eye thing that didn't enrage me but used to baffle me.

Weird kid.

Sounds like you have miso phobia OP

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:52

It's ok Crunch. I know how ridiculous it sounds. I usually hide it fairly well but they do know the rules.

Misophonia stupid autocorrect

CaptainCrunch · 28/08/2016 11:54

I don't envy you, it must be a nightmare Flowers

ArtichokeHeartsAppleCarts · 28/08/2016 11:54

Oops sorry OP didn't see your update

I have misophonia too, it's shit isn't it 💐

Lorelei76 · 28/08/2016 11:54

Lumpy, I have misophonia too
It's one of many reasons I didn't want kids and love living alone
Having a parent with misophonia must be really hard fucking work.
I do have a bit of a thing about parents complaining about their kids though. You made them after all!

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:54

I do. To quite a severe degree. Properly diagnosed and everything, not that it helps as there's no real treatment.

OP posts:
LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:55

I don't complain about her much to her face though, honest.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 28/08/2016 11:55

I sat on the train to someone like this a few days ago and I had to move.
She just kept breathing thorough her mouth, drove me bonkers.

jaxxyj · 28/08/2016 11:55

My DS has hay fever and clucks whilst itching the roof of his mouth, I have to do a lot of "and breath" as I know it is not his fault. He also has a nervous itch in the top of his foot which he rakes at until it bleeds not that scratching is hard to bear!

ArtichokeHeartsAppleCarts · 28/08/2016 11:56

I can't sit at the dinner table with DH if he's eating anything remotely crunchy, it makes me murderous

Lorelei76 · 28/08/2016 11:56

Oh Ive cross posted
Never seen so much sympathy for misophonia before
Interesting.

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:56

People who can't breathe like a normal fucking person should be BANNED from public transport. Mouth breathing should be a crime.

OP posts:
SatsukiKusakabe · 28/08/2016 11:57

Ah I wondered if something like that. God it must drive you nuts. But it must be shit for your dd as well, she probably just wants some sympathy and indulgence for being ill.

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 11:59

She's not actually ill! She's just got the slight sniffles.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2016 11:59

I don't think I would get a diagnosis, DH says it's just the fact that I am intolerant and bad tempered. I think he thinks the judge would believe that in his murder trial. I believe the judge would side with me, particularly the Intel processor ditty.

OP how are you with static or badly tuned TV/Radio? That unhinges my ears.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 28/08/2016 12:01

Amen to that.

LumpyMcBentface · 28/08/2016 12:01

I'm ok with white noise but occasionally our kitchen radio gets a thump thump thump of interference. I have to switch it off.

I also can't cope if there's different noises going on, the tv in one room and music in another for eg. It makes me panic.

It's definitely a good murder defence.

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 28/08/2016 12:03

I probably have misophobia noises cause a physical reaction slurping/chomping/breathing loudly is amplified. 1 of my dds has a weird toast eating thing i have to leave the room.

Soubriquet · 28/08/2016 12:06

One benefit of being deaf I suppose

Noises doesn't bother me very much.

Ihatechoosingnames · 28/08/2016 12:10

My dad has misophonia and we weren't allowed to breathe or eat near him. Or type on the computer. My siblings and I have real issues because of my dad's illness OP (can't even cough accidentally in front of another person without cowering in case we get yelled at) so I hope you aren't letting your condition affect your DD for her sake.

neonrainbow · 28/08/2016 12:16

I have misophonia too. Not as bad as you but still enough to affect my life. Funnily enough i was ok with my dss eating really noisily and messily when he was younger and not really old enough to know better but a switch clicked when he turned 7 ish and suddenly i couldnt bear his lack of table manners anymore so now he triggers me too. My dh knows the rules... must have background noise when eating eg. I really struggle at work. How you keep your shit together when you know your dd is doing it on purpose is beyond me.

reallybadidea · 28/08/2016 12:16

TSSDNCOP I want to kill your dh over the Intel processor thing and I've never even met him Grin

In the early years of our marriage my dh and I did almost split up over a dry cough thing. This was actually my mum's fault really because I had never even noticed it until she pointed it out but once she did I couldn't un-notice it. A combination of antihistamines (him) and deep (quiet of course) breathing (me) saved our marriage.
