Did your baby wear a cardigan today?

My IL's have popped over at least once a week since my DD was born to incessantly to ask me the same questions over and over again in an accusational tone of voice.

One of these is "Is she cold?"

It was 26+ degrees today. My DD sweats to the point of having wet hair and vest, even when it's very mild. She was in a vest and little bottoms. SIL said why wasn't she wearing a cardigan as "she might be cold" DD is 6 months old and very large and robust.

So, can I ask if your baby wore a cardigan today? Or AIBU?

No my few week old DD has been in short body suit thing and I was worried she'd be too hot Confused

Er, no. It was quite hot where we were today. A t shirt would be my first choice over a cardigan.

God no. It's baltic here and my 6 month old DS has worn his Yoda vest (it says "may the force be with you" where it counts...) He's more than content and is currently eating his daddy's shoe.

I have 7lb/18 wk old twins (ex prem) and in the house they have been in vests with a thin blanket whilst napping. Out and about today, they just had a vest/sleepsuit on...

Here in the south east DS has been in shorts and t shirt, no vest! He is nearly 6 months and his 3-6 month wardrobe does not include any cardigans and just one light jumper which I think he's worn about twice.

If it's any consolation my DM is constantly asking if DS needs socks on as his feet might be chilly ... they are usually dripping in sweat!

My DM used to do this when my DD was born and still does a bit. My DD is 10 months and is often warm and gets sweaty like your DD.My mum is fantastic and supportive and she just worries but I spend a lot of time reassuring her my DD is fine when it comes to coat/cardigan wearing.

My DD did not wear a cardigan today. It's way too hot. YANBU

No, my little man is 6 months and I put him in shorts and tshirt this morning but he was getting hot so spent the rest of today in just his shorts

My in laws (splendid folk) always make my eldest lad wear a jumper or such - they favour layering which he despises. DS1 tells them "I run hot granny!" and he would happily wear a t-shirt in the snow (not that we do that).

DS is 21 months so not really a baby but he's spent today in socks and a vest (we haven't been out).

My DC never wore a Cardigan as she was always too hot. My mum mothered about it too - got told to feel her and see if she was cold, she never was.

I was sad because I learned to knit while pregnant to make baby cardigans. They never got used.

My DM also was and still is like this. The amount of bedding she tries to get DD to sleep under is incredible. Basically she comes from an age where children needed to be kept warm, whereas when I had DD it was all about making sure baby wasn't too hot. I sometimes see babies all muffled up now and worry about them. Guess it's whichever theory we've all swallowed at the time...but as I hate being hot too I err on the side of keeping DD cool.

I visited a hot country (one I visit regularly) in the winter months when my DC was three months old.

When we go in summer it is normally 40 degrees plus. When we went in the winter it was about 28 degrees. Back home the temperature was probably less than ten degrees.

Everywhere we went we were wearing our summer clothes - baby was in summer dresses etc and the locals were wearing coats and long trousers.

We couldn't go anywhere at all without someone stopping us and telling us that the baby should have a coat on or that she would end up ill (usually done through either finding someone else to do a very broken translation or through lots of miming and pointing). Parks, beaches, supermarkets, taxis, restaurants, everywhere. People even tried to give us blankets and coats for her. I ended up asking a friend who spoke the local language to teach me how to say "Yes my baby is warm enough". I was more worried about her over-heating.

Sorry that doesn't help you at all OP but ten years on I still laugh about it.

SE here. No baby in the house, but if there had been they'd have been in a nappy only earlier on, with a t shirt added about now for a nap, or funnily enough, if they seemed chilly 😁

However, the rail thin 10 yr old had a thin cardi on earlier as she was 'a bit chilly' - if only I could give her some of my body fat 😂😂

I really am so done with listening to them nag me about absolutely every aspect of my DD's upbringing. They have useless and intrusive opinions on almost everything.

It's generational I think-people in years gone by were told to keep babies warm all the time. My dd was in a vest and leggings and she was fine!

RubyReins, babies cool down quickly. Are you sure your baby is content in just a vest if its that cold?

Mine did for a little while when we sat outside for lunch as there was a bit of a breeze and I felt comfortable in long sleeves. Didn't do it up though and it was over a short legged and sleeved thing. I think he runs hotter than I do anyway. He never seems cold!

My very tiny 7 month old was in a sleeveless romper, no vest, no sock. A cardigan would have been up there with leaving her in a hot car today!!
