It's a really good film. It wasn't lacking because of no menz. I'm sadly not that surprised about the backlash from the male half of society but why do they care so much?

The racist backlash against Leslie Jones is completely vile as well. She's obviously committed the cardinal sins of being successful, funny, female and black.

The film was hilarious, it really didn't need male main characters. Nothing was missing. Maybe it's that that's hurting a certain type of man's psyche and why they can't get over a great film without them playing a central role.

Do you know what I'd have liked?

Two male ghostbusters and two female ghostbusters who all got on as mates, cheeky banter, no one secretly fancying another one, totally accepting of each other.

I was of the generation whose childhood was supposedly "ruined" by the new Ghostbusters film, as the original was one of my favorite, most often watched as a kid.

And you know what? I loved it! I loved all the references to the original, but it still would have been funny and entertaining without them. And I came away with a huuuggge girl-crush on Kate McKinnon.

Whatever reasons online "haters" are giving, it's really just misogyny, isn't it? Even if it had been bad, it's not as if it would be the first and only shitty remake of a classic film. Nic Cage didn't get death threats for starring in that abomination of a Wicker Man remake, did he?

Totally agree OP. Loved it. DH was a bit huffy about the new cast but he was converted. 9 year old twins loved it too. 3D version is fab.

I bloody loved it too! And the original one was one of the first films I saw at the pictures (with my now deceased dad) so it holds a special place in my heart.

It had great characters (including Melissa Metcalfe ), nods to the original, and excellent use of 3D. If anything ruined the memory of the original, that would be Ghostbusters 2.

Why Dr? What's wrong with it being all female? There's plenty of films with a male main roles and a token pretty girl. What's wrong with having it the other way round?

You don't remake perfection. However good the new actresses are.

You see that's a perfectly reasonable opinion Olivia. What's not reasonable is acting as if the world is ending and bombarding the actresses Twitter account with threats and abuse (although funnily enough not the director or producer, who both happen to be men).

No one has to watch the remake. It doesn't cancel out the original and people aren't going to forget the original exists.

J0kers I just think it would be good to just show people as people without the need to go "oh, they are all men" or "oh, they are all women". There's going to be the female remake of Ocean's 11. They're talking about rebooting Rocketeer with a female rocketeer. There are other female reboots on the way. I'm not saying I have a problem with it, I'd just like to see a gang of people for whom their gender is irrelevant to the story and to the audience.

i surprised myself by liking it as much as I did and am a huge fan of the original. The male secretary really let it down though, it was almost as if because the leads were women they had to have a famous
fit man in there to validate the whole thing.
The cameos by the original cast were lovely, just very sad that Harold Ramis couldn't be with them

Adding to this general apathy The marketing strategy of saying any who criticises this film is a sexist

Drseth I agree with you and thought that about the film until I went to see it. I completely forgot it was an all female main cast, as the film is amazing, until I saw the shit storm on twitter about it today and especially the abuse Leslie has received.

Most remakes are shit. Look how Charlie and the chocolate factory turned out.

This however is a great film.

I loved it, loved the in jokes.

Whilst watching it i thought the scene of them dancing whilst working was a bit stereotyping, but then i find myself sitting at my desk dancing to music waiting for the computer to talk to me and laugh.

Have recently enjoyed the originals with the DC who are now v keen to see this version!

I tihnk you'll find most of the male half of society liked it... fortunatly movie critics don't represent half of society.

All remakes get a back lash of "This is going to be shit" on the internet.

I loved it, my dd loved it, my dh thought it was ok. I loved Kevin!

What about the stereotypes in the film, ie the black character is sassy and in a working class job, the scientist was quiet and nerdy
