To have felt a bit scared for this newborn

Was in busy supermarket this afternoon.
Lots of kids/trolleys/shelf stackers etc.
There was a couple walking about, mum with trolley & dad with the teeniest of newborns I have seen in a while, all cute and floppy. But just being held in his arms.
I saw them a few times in the space of half an hr, and everytime all I could think was don't drop him/her!

AIBU for thinking it was a bit daft of them?

Safer in a sling than arms because you have your hands free to break your fall or grab something if in a sling.

HeyOverHere · 22/08/2016 21:27

YABU. People have been carrying babies safely for thousands of years, and a trolly is less dangerous than a lion or bear.

phillipp · 22/08/2016 21:27

I'm not too sure where the dissing slings has come from?

It's come from th insisting they are the safer optio.

Ou didn't really to me earlier. So I'll reiterate. My mils first baby died when she fell on her front at 6 months pregnant. You state that with slings you have your arms to catch you. Mils arms didn't catch her, sadly. So how do you know your arms would catch you wearing a sling. Hopefully they would. But it's not a fact.

I am not sayin slings are bad or dangerous. However you are talking about them as though they solve all problems and are a safety product. They aren't. The baby is no safer in a sling.

Where has Stripey's capital 'd' disappeared to!

moodyblues · 22/08/2016 21:33

I know exactly what you mean OP.

I see a couple of mums who carry their teeny babies in one arm as they are walking their primary aged dc into school. Loads of crazy, over excited 5 yr olds running through the crowd, it's all such a squash and I hold my breath when I see these mums.

It just scares me. Obviously it's only natural to carry a baby but they are so tiny and vulnerable.

Stripeydogs · 22/08/2016 21:34

Really izzy where?
I've been on mn for about 4yrs and mame change every week or so for anonimity. Have I messed up?.... I can't see looking at previous posts?
What's fishy about it?

Mycatsabastard · 22/08/2016 21:36

Maybe it's just where I live but I see mums and dads carrying tiny little newborns regularly. Most of the time the other parent or grandparent is pushing the pram or trolley.

I love seeing it. I get all gooey at tiny babies and quite often it's a chance to glimpse their teeny little feet. That may make me slightly odd but I don't care. I love babies :o

StripeyDogs · 22/08/2016 21:36

I have a different default username, I change through them often and have been writing in my name each time. Doesn't everyone do that?
What's fishy about it?

Oh right phillip I see, I didn't mean it like that. People were going on about crappy plastic seats in trolleys so I mentioned slings as an alternative. Fwiw, if they are a reputable brand and used correctly they are perfectly safe.

Captainkanga · 22/08/2016 21:41

This is bloody bonkers.

phillipp · 22/08/2016 21:42

Fwiw, if they are a reputable brand and used correctly they are perfectly safe.

and if the adult falls over and doesn't catch themselves?

IzzyIsBusy · 22/08/2016 21:44

As the OP your pists are highleted for me. However because hou have typed in your name without the D your post was not highlighted which probably means you have been posting under a different nn elswhere this evening.

IzzyIsBusy · 22/08/2016 21:45

MN for 4 years and you had to ask what GF stands for oookkkaaayyy then.

treaclesoda · 22/08/2016 21:47

I'm adding my voice to the legions of YABU. But I think what has really shocked me was the comment that you haven't really seen someone carrying a newborn round a supermarket before. I would consider carrying a baby that age to be the norm, what with them being so small. I see it every day, I did it, my friends did it etc. I've never thought of it as being in any way remarkable.

Dontyoulovecalpol · 22/08/2016 21:47

Well hippy dippy sling library users don't like baby bjorn but last I checked it was a reputable brand....

treaclesoda · 22/08/2016 21:48

Shocked is probably too strong. Surprised would be a better choice of word...

StripeyDogs · 22/08/2016 21:48

Yes but phillip a pram can fall over, but they're still perfectly safe to use. You wouldn't not use one incase it tipped.

Oh right izzy I have been posting on another thread tonight with a different name... My thread, which is a local one with a local name. So I've been changing between the 2. Still not sure what the problem is?

YABU. I had to carry both of mine around the supermarket when they were tiny (not at the same time obviously, two year age gap) because otherwise they would scream all the way round. I wouldn't have done it if I felt it was putting them at risk. Some babies just prefer the security of being held.

StripeyDogs · 22/08/2016 21:50

Yes izzy I know what goady fucker is but not GF, always read that as girlfriend.
What is your problem? What's the big deal about whether I'd joined today or joined as 1st ever member?

OP posts:
IzzyIsBusy · 22/08/2016 21:51

If you feel the need to name change from thread to thread, you probably know that you're posting bollocks or deliberately being a GF.
