This is so stupid 😂

I'm 25 have a dp and 2 year old daughter . When I was around 8 I was reaaaaally chubby 🙈 And would hoard food and basically eat anything I saw. I have a great uncle who is one of those tells shit jokes at every opportunity etc . When I was 8 in my chubby phase we stayed at there house for 2 weeks in the summer , my siblings and I. His wife who has now sadly passed was lovely but she was obsessed with my weight and put me on a strict diet which actually wasn't too bad but I was used to wolfing everything down. She also used to say kitchen closed at 6 pm. On the last Sunday of our stay she cooked a lovely roast with all the trimmings and gave me what I saw as a baby's portion. That night the rest of the beef went into the fridge in tin foil. I waited til everyone was sleeping and I ate the lot 😂 Didn't even slice it. My uncle caught me red handed with the plate and I've never lived it down.

Fast forward to now and every Sunday since his wife has passed uncle goes to my parents for dinner which we also attend and every bloody week hey beef thief is how I'm greeted. He tells the story all the time told my dp the first time he met him and my brothers new girlfriend today .

I want to punch him 😂🙄

Meh I like these sort of stories!

My mum tells everyone the time my sister projectile shat on the wall when she was a few months old... My sister is in her mid twenties and a real hipster Grin

Hassled · 21/08/2016 21:07

There are worse things to be called, Beef Thief. In fairness, you did nick the beef. He's not wrong Wink.

sunshineandmarbles · 21/08/2016 21:08

This has made me laugh OP!

How sad that she tried to restrict your food, although the nickname is a good one from your uncle!

Unfortunately families are always like this - remembering one embarrassing thing you did, or phase you went through, and never letting you forget it!

User543212345 · 21/08/2016 21:08

When he says it respond with "hey it's the cunt who feels the need to belittle a child's actions and bang on about it into their adulthood." And make some kind of personal comment about him. And then punch him.

Alternatively could your mother have a word? Or invite me, I'll call him a wanker.

I'm so anti people making comments about other people and food - it's one of the triggers for me (I have an eating disorder) and it does real damage.

Joolsy · 21/08/2016 21:09

How do you react at the moment when he says it? Personally I would pretend to yawn then change the subject, or just do my very best to ignore it, difficult I know

FoxesOnSocks · 21/08/2016 21:09

Have you asked him why he's still got beef about your late night purloining?

RamonaTheGreat · 21/08/2016 21:13

Maybe you could both meat in the middle and come up with a new nickname?

crazycatguy · 21/08/2016 21:15

Tell him to burger off?

PepsiPenguins · 21/08/2016 21:15

People like this IMO almost like it when they see a reaction

I actually think it's quite mean

Purpleeggs · 21/08/2016 21:17

Haha great responses. He is actually a really nice man just his sense of humour is Hmm

He also tells a story about his poor son who used to really love Kylie Minogue and told lots of really bad jokes when he made a speech at his wedding

Rumpelstiltskin143 · 21/08/2016 21:20

Tell him it's twenty years, can't he come up with a new story.

sonjadog · 21/08/2016 21:20

There was a similar story in my family about me and cream. Eventually I sat down and said that I really didn´t like them bringing it up over and over again when it was decades ago. I refused to admit it was really funny deep down and made it clear that I was seriously asking them to stop. They stopped. Maybe you have to go to him and ask him to stop, making it clear that you are serious about not finding it funny at all?

Purpleeggs · 21/08/2016 21:24

I may have to have that chat because he was even talking about finding pictures of me as a chubby child. I'm like Monica from friends. I never want to see those pictures ever ever .

Roseformeplease · 21/08/2016 21:26

Why don't you just start calling him Uncle Repeater (or similar) and, when he questions it, explain that he always tells the same stories.

FoxesOnSocks · 21/08/2016 21:30

Ha, Uncle Repeater I like it.

"Uncle Repeater needs new material to mock people with"

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 21/08/2016 21:38

I would seriously HATE that. I hate comments about food and weight when they're not necessary, and also any personal comments really. Even though he's trying to be funny, it is also mean to not recognise when your audience isn't finding the 'banter' funny. I'd have that chat.

Amelie10 · 21/08/2016 21:40

Think you could gently say to him it's time for a new story but he does sound harmless.
Sweary there's no need for the op to be so vulgar!

ImperialBlether · 21/08/2016 21:41

I'd have to have a quiet word with him. It's not funny. He's making people laugh at you, but you were a very little girl and put on a diet by a woman with problems of her own. It's not funny. He needs to be told that.

Lorelei76 · 21/08/2016 21:41

I think this is mean and I'd say "hey bald git" or some such.
Nothing wrong with loving kylie btw!

HeyOverHere · 21/08/2016 21:42

Take him aside (or have someone do it on your behalf). "Uncle, I know I laugh when you say it, but honestly, it's very uncomfortable to remember who I was then. I was a child with a problem, and every time it's brought back up, I can't help but wince at myself. I love that you have a nickname for me, but maybe we can update?"

Benedikte2 · 21/08/2016 21:42

Are there any "funny" family stories about this uncle that you could threaten to tell next time he mentions the one against you?

divafever99 · 21/08/2016 21:43

Yanbu, I hate this. I have a couple of family members who bring up things that happened to me so long ago I can't even remember.

MsKite · 21/08/2016 21:43

Uncle repeater made me lol. I think that's your angle right there op Grin

MsKite · 21/08/2016 21:45

Or just call him a cunt like Sweary said. Sometimes there's every need to be vulgar!
