Wrinkled. Old. Saggy.

Fucking hell.

I felt more inhibited when my children were small and I couldn't be myself with them.

Now they are all independent, late 20s, and I can say what I want how I want, swear sometimes a lot

I just feel more like me than I did when they were small.

I don't think I'll ever feel middle aged, there will just come a point when I'll
think, oh shit, now I'm old .

SistersOfPercy · 20/08/2016 23:47

42 is fucking fabulous.
My kids are adults and fend for themselves. We have disposable income. I'm told I still look 30. I can now afford the tattoos I always wanted, I still have all my facial piercings and Wear band shirts and skinny jeans no longer giving a fuck what people think.

I've spent the day dancing around the house belting out the new metallica single and 23 year old ds and I are planning a road trip for the UK tour.

Yep. I love 42

TheFirie · 20/08/2016 23:49

To be honest, 42 was a long time ago, so I don't really remember if I felt old at that time. I am not feeling old now so I guess I didn't

LifeInJeneral · 20/08/2016 23:49

Tbh I'm about to turn 30 and I'm having a fucking terrible year. 33 is going to be my year. By 42 I may have actually sorted my life out a bit!

LaContessaDiPlump · 20/08/2016 23:53

I must admit that I'm going to turn 35 this year and am not quite prepared to be closer to 40 than 30; therefore according to that logic yeah, you're ancient op.

Not really Grin

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 20/08/2016 23:54

I met the love of my life at 42 - I'm 52 now and these last 10 years have been incredible. Don't care about a few life wrinkles - things are good.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 20/08/2016 23:58

You is funny DiPlumpness Grin

GonzoFlyingProducts · 21/08/2016 00:03

Ahhh those heady days of being 42 when almost all of my body worked as advertised.

ScarlettSahara · 21/08/2016 00:04

40 is the new 30. 50 is the new 40 and 60 is the new 50 -tis fine.

When I was a child people in their 50's and 60's somehow seemed to act and dress older. Now we seem to feel free to act and dress younger. Embrace it - and yes far far better than the alternative. Wine and Happy Birthday!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/08/2016 00:18

Oh and probably should have said, I'm 64.

But I'm not really, 35 is the perfect age, I think.

LegArmpits · 21/08/2016 00:44

Is it fuck

AnnieOnnieMouse · 21/08/2016 01:36

So, your 21st birthday is having its 21st birthday!
Go stick your head in a pig!
(that's another quote, before pearl clutchers start on me for being abusive)

wizzywig · 21/08/2016 01:43

Shit im 41. 42 is the median age for being a first time grandparent?!

RonaldMcDonald · 21/08/2016 01:50

42 is fantastic
I have an actual super hot friend who is 51. She's not hot in an obvious way but she's a stone cold fox
I hope to grow into her

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/08/2016 06:47

This thread is hoopy!

TooGood2BeFalse · 21/08/2016 06:55

I'm 28, my Dad is 60. I still see him as youngish Blush He's by no means a fitness freak or health junkie etc...just 60s is not old to me.

So 42, no not old. My DH is 40 next birthday and he's nowhere old! (annoyingly he looks way better than me, but I blame pregnancy haha)

Mommawoo · 21/08/2016 07:01

Christie Brinkley
This is my old lady goal.

No wrinkles, sags, droops or veins and she is SIXTY FUCKING TWO!

42 is fucking old isn't it?
dodiebantock · 21/08/2016 07:04

No of course it is not old! My youngest son is 42 today - I don't think of myself as "old" and
I am 67 at the end of this year. Age is mostly all in the mind - just think of those people who were not lucky enough to reach 42. Enjoy your life!

ItsaTenfromDen · 21/08/2016 07:20

not as old as 52, still think I'm 18 :)

user1471552005 · 21/08/2016 07:28

Get a grip OP.

You are as flabby as you want to be. I am much older than you and take a great pride in my body and fitness.

Mouseinahole · 21/08/2016 07:48

I am 72...I am not old I am in late middle age...I think.

StillSmallVoiceOfCalm · 21/08/2016 08:01

I'm 42! Hurrah!

I shall have a party later. And you are all invited. Wine

I'm 44. I like garden centres and a nice cup of Earl Grey, but I also like getting pissed and dancing until the small hours (although the hangovers are something else these days). You're still the same person, just with a veneer of maturity Wink.

Mommawoo I hope you've got a small fortune put aside, and the number of a good surgeon, in order to achieve that particular goal. She looks great but obviously with a ton of work.

MargotLovedTom · 21/08/2016 08:05

Happy Birthday Smile.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/08/2016 08:07

Happy birthday. Given that life is generally said to begin at 40, you are effectively two years old.

ps I'm 57 and I haven't even grown up yet. Probably never will.
