Fuck off!

user1470516192 · 20/08/2016 22:25

OP will you think 42 is old when you're 70 and looking back on your life? Or will you wish you were a 'youngster' again?

MooPointCowsOpinion · 20/08/2016 22:25

frogmore have my first Biscuit

willitbe · 20/08/2016 22:26

When one great aunt was 100 and her daughter 80, they both used to knit things for the old people! A different great aunt was living independently and free spirited, with her 90 year old boyfriend living next door, when she was 102 years old. I intend not to get old either. (I am 48 years young)

Memoires · 20/08/2016 22:27

It's not old. I have years on you - I'm old. Not just wrinkled and saggy, but also flabby now. No grey hairs though, it makes no sense; and, sod's law here, I'd quite like to have white hair, it just won't do it.

spankhurst · 20/08/2016 22:28

No way. I'm 3 years older and look positively girlish on a good day.

CattyMcCatface · 20/08/2016 22:28

How rude! (To us in our 50s - I would love to be 42!)

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2016 22:28

Mirrors are the problem! Just concentrate on how you feel when you can't see your reflection.

The worst thing about forties for me has been various health problems but when I'm feeling well it's no different than being in my twenties just with added wrinkles Smile

Ladymayormaynot · 20/08/2016 22:29

My mother was 42 when I was born. At 42 I had just returned to work full time after yrs of being a SAHM. 42 is not old. With a bit of luck you'll have at least another 40 yrs ahead of you so you are definitely not old, maybe just feeling a bit fagged out today & in need of some R&R.

BungoWomble · 20/08/2016 22:29

I was thinking of the Hitchhiker's Guide link to. At 42 I will know exactly what I'm doing and where I am going. All my life will be sorted out and orderly.

More seriously is there really anyone out there who doesn't know Hitchhiker's Guide well enough to quote from it? Shame on you! Education nowadays

Mabelface · 20/08/2016 22:30

42 old? No it bloody isn't! I'm 46 and smoking hot. I feel the best I ever have, comfortable in my own skin, slimmer than I've been for years and am being pursued by younger men! I'm bloody loving life and feel young, so there. Wink

Lolimax · 20/08/2016 22:31

I'm 46 and however I'm 'classified' I know I'm healthier and fitter than I've been for a long time. I'm looking after myself and on a very (very) good day like what I see. I'm probably like a good vintage red wine!

Charley50 · 20/08/2016 22:32

42 isn't old!!!!

Sadik · 20/08/2016 22:35

Bungo I was shocked, shocked I tell you when dd reported that in their school library quiz only her plus one other identified the clue that was not only a towel with a dolphin printed on it + a pair of slippers but also a large note saying "Don't Panic". The youth of today, eh?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/08/2016 22:39

I'm 41 and definitely don't feel old (apart from my back and knees but they were knackered in my twenties).

My twenties were shit and I wouldn't go back if you paid me. Thirties were good and hitting forty didn't bother me.

Ginmakesitallok · 20/08/2016 22:39

Me too!! 42 in under an hour and a half!! Though in my head I've been 42 since June

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 20/08/2016 22:40

20s were OK, 30s were shit, 40s so far are BEST DECADE EVER.

My body might have a few extra wrinkles (rocking the white streak though) and not lose weight as fast as it used to, but it's fucking amazing. I'm proud of it because it's survived everything I did to it in my depressive stage and come out stronger.

And in my 40s, I've learned to love & respect myself & to grab life with both hands, while giving much less of a shit about what other people think of me. I wish I'd known what I know now in my 20s.

Lilacpink40 · 20/08/2016 22:41

No way. I'm not that far away. I plan to not be old until I'm 90!!

Lilacpink40 · 20/08/2016 22:43

Empress your comments are great. My 30s were the worst (horrible ex) so I'm hoping 40s will be particularly good Smile

BungoWomble · 20/08/2016 22:44

Sadik those poor, deprived kids. We need that 'Don't Panic' note (well I do anyway). They just don't know where their towels are any more.

My dc will be studying it alongside Shakespeare. Or else.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 20/08/2016 22:46

Lilacpink Wine

I pretty much rebuilt my life & got to know myself all over again. Wishing you the same.

ifcatscouldtalk · 20/08/2016 22:54

My absolute worse birthday was 30, I hated it! I'm nearly 37 now and have never felt like that since. Being completely honest i don't even recognise the person I was in my twenties. I look better most days and if I don't I couldn't care less. I wouldn't want to be in my twenties again even if it were possible. I had my daughter fairly young imo, so now I am starting to enjoy some freedoms I didn't have back then. At 42 theres plenty to still look forward to. Oh and scottish your mother sounds brilliant!

breezybeach · 20/08/2016 23:01

Botox ? ( shock , horror flipping works though )
Gym ?
Diet ?

Knowing yourself ( and knowing that apart from being a mum, a job that makes you happy some if not most days , and freinds who take you out of yourself and to somewhere else )

Dressing to please yourself not grazia magazine

Not being in a relationship with a dickhead who puts you down .. even though you might be poorer

Going to Berlin for a mini break by yourself ? Because you realise you are at least halfway through life and really don't want to check out with regrets

I think I like my 40s
And I like myself more in them

My fittest looking , kindest , funniest mate is about to turn 50

42 is not old

HemanOrSheRa · 20/08/2016 23:19

Happy Birthday prey old girl GrinFlowers.

OrlandaFuriosa · 20/08/2016 23:20

42 is the median age for being a grandparent in the UK, or was about 7 years ago...
