Bad Moms- why cast Mila Kunis?

Just seen the advert for this new film, and the poster showing Mila Kunis as the lead role.

I know she's a great actress but why cast a 33 year old to be the mother of based on the preview are children who are at least 11 or 12?

All the other 'Bad Moms' are actresses in their late 30s early 40s?

I was looking forward to this film, had only read reviews of what it was going to be about but this will annoy me!

Maybe the character also looks young for her age

Grin

Well some characters in films must do, right?

Just like people IRL do?

And just like some people have children older or younger than between their 29th and 31st birthdays? Smile

DownWithThisSortaThing · 19/08/2016 23:18

She doesn't look insanely young for her age though. You don't hit 30 and suddenly become middle aged Confused she's only early 30s
She is the voice of a 17 year old cartoon character though, so maybe it's her voice that makes her seem younger?

DownWithThisSortaThing · 19/08/2016 23:20

Yes exactly just! Grin

Just5minswithDacre · 19/08/2016 23:21

DO you think some 50ish women have a vendetta against her because of the Demi thing?

MrsJayy · 19/08/2016 23:22

I had a primary teacher shout me back from picking up dd from after school club she shouted Girls you need to wait for an adult Grin im under 5ft and from behind I probably lookec 10 poor dd was mortifyed

SovietKitsch · 19/08/2016 23:57

I had my first child at 19, I have a successful professional career and the kids are in fee-paying schools, people think I look like the au pair young to have my oldest son, but news flash, I still am his mum Confused. Actually, I have been called his big sister before now, embarrassingly enough. Sail do I need to be recast in the role of my son's mother?!

It'll probably go and see this film now, it's nice that there's one that apparently represents my experience!

Tywinlannister · 20/08/2016 00:14

Having a baby at 20 or under is fairly normal round here. I was considered an older mum at 29!

I once saw a "Happy 30th NAN" banner on a local roundabout. Clutch your pearls at that one OP! Grin

BarefootCuntessa · 20/08/2016 00:25

I'm 33 and have a 15 year old Wink

MrsMargeSimpson · 20/08/2016 00:48

When I'm 33 I'll have a 15 and 14 year old. Better just pause time for a few years so we can catch up to be acceptable Hmm

MidnightPanda · 20/08/2016 00:53

Ill have a 13 and 14 year old at that age Smile
Plus people love Mila so the movie will be popular Smile

MrsMargeSimpson · 20/08/2016 01:03

And of course, given that I had 4 children before I was 26 (just), I live on a shitty council estate and deal drugs for a living, the kids have 5 different dads I think - not even sure who one came from.

Oh no, wait, I also have a 'big' house and a 'professional' job and a husband. I am as middle class as they come. How fucking nasty to suggest that young mums can't be 'middle class.' Fucking vile attitude.

sailawaywithme · 20/08/2016 03:28

MrsMargeSimpson I'm assuming your vitriol is a response to my comments? I'm not sure why. I didn't say that young mothers couldn't be middle class. What I'm saying is that generally speaking, a woman in her early thirties who is a successful professional (to the extent of enjoying the lifestyle portrayed in this particular film) is unlikely to have had children in her early twenties. It's hardly a revolutionary idea, but if you're determined to take offense to it, that's your prerogative, of course.

MrsLion · 20/08/2016 04:55

Not that unlikely really. There are plenty of young, professional mums out there.

I think it's cast well.

Advicepls7080 · 20/08/2016 07:38

I'm going to be a doctor with children before I'm 30 :s Sail you have an issue with Mila looking young that seems like a personal issue.
I personally think she looks 30 but they might be because I'm younger than her.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 20/08/2016 08:00

What I'm saying is that generally speaking, a woman in her early thirties who is a successful professional (to the extent of enjoying the lifestyle portrayed in this particular film) is unlikely to have had children in her early twenties.

What makes you think that though? Just because you might not know anyone who's done it doesn't mean there aren't lots of women who do it.

Besides even if it is as unlikely as you say, it's a film

dizzygirl1 · 20/08/2016 08:06

I'm 33 and will have a 10 year old soon. I have lots of friends who have children up to the age of 16/17 at my age as well! Definitely realistic!

Juanbablo · 20/08/2016 08:20

When I'm 33 my eldest child will be 14!

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 20/08/2016 08:27

I don't think it matters because Mila could easily pass for her later thirties.

But obviously the real reason she'll have been cast is because she's the main character, and she's a gorgeous woman

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 20/08/2016 08:37

I had my children at 21, 23 and am 25 and due my third while im still this age. Once my kids are older I will be able to go back to work as anything from a pot washer to a head chef as they're both positions I've had in the past. So at some point I could be 33 with a 12, 10 and 8 year old and in a 'professional' job. Find thus thread quite offensive! Not all 'young' mums have kids and that's it you know! X

MrsJayy · 20/08/2016 08:58

sail you are not making sense to me you just seem offended by Mila Kunis and the character do you not approve of younger parents.

kirinm · 20/08/2016 09:08

Sali - I had a baby when I was 18 and am a solicitor working in the city. Does that fit your stereotype?

kirinm · 20/08/2016 09:11

Oh, and people always assume I'm in my 20s which can actually be a hindrance at work.

andintothefire · 20/08/2016 10:36

I must admit that I was a bit irritated by the casting of Mila Kunis when I saw the trailer. Then I questioned why I was irritated by it and realised that it wasn't because I don't believe that there are successful professional mothers of teenagers in their early 30s but because - again - it is Hollywood casting as young as they possibly can for a female role.

I haven't seen the film and may be prejudging it unfairly. It may very well be that the character's youth is a vital plot point somehow (rather than just a throwaway line to justify casting the young and glamorous Mila Kunis). However, my initial instinct is that the mothers in this film - and particularly her character - look so incredibly atypical that is just reinforces how much of a problem Hollywood seems to have with older women. Particularly when this appears to be a rare film that could be a vehicle for excellent slightly older actresses.

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 10:47

I don't believe that there are successful professional mothers of teenagers in their early 30s

But whyever not?

Confused
MrsJayy · 20/08/2016 10:51

But her character is meant to be in her 30s her friends seem to be older but her story in the film is she had her child in her 20s anyway me and Dd are going to see it next week it looks very funny
