I hate it. I had to use my maiden name as they've already refused me viewings under my married name (luckily i use both as a divorcee so can prove I'm either). This time they didn't even ask if I was on benefits, I acted that stuck up. I mean why would I work when I have a young daughter and my daddy earns so many times the rent and lives in a big posh house on posh estate in posh village and he doesn't even have a mortgage on it. Urgh. I sounded like a precious spoilt brat. But it worked so, happy days.

The thing is, you are rather on the menu for toads. I will try to resist. Maybe if we're going to get fresh, I could eat a very large meal so that I am not tempted to give you a little nibble.

Because I'm on benefits and want to continue to live in a naice area. I said on a previous thread (before you joined us) how crap it was because I was a home owner (had first bought at 19) but I signed it all over to violent and abusive ex so he'd leave us alone (didnt work 1 year down the line and he's causing problems again). But obviously if I'm on benefits I must be scum who'll destroy their property .

I always make sure to wear my naicest top and proper trousers (as opposed to my usual joggers ). I can also give a very good "posh" impression from my mannerisms when needed. I just hate doing it.

Honestly, if you were being discriminated against on any other criteria, there would be an outcry.

That's awful Ruby. I've never been in the position of renting, DH and I are buying our house. But I have seen the shit my sister goes through in renting. Shit landlords, dangerous properties, faulty appliances, boilers etc. I don't envy you at all. But that's awful, just because you're not working doesn't mean you're going to trash the place!!!

Ruby. I am so with you on this. When I did my counselling course, we had to write an essay about our own personal experience of discrimination. Mine was about the stigma attached to benefits recipients and I highlighted George Osborne's remarks about the Mick Philpott case. am also a serial reporter of threads about single mothers/benefits and will continue to be so
