That having a bikini wax shouldn't be a necessary part of any job?

I've been watching the amazing gymnastics at the olympics and every time I can't help but wonder if they are all happy to have such revealing gym costumes. I would hate to have a camera doing a slow mo when I'm legs akimbo in the air wearing so little even if the camera angles seem to be discrete.

I have tried to look up if there is a rule about the cut and if they wanted could they wear little shorts but I can't find anything. I did read if they remove a wedgie they get marked down?!

AIBU to think that in this day and age it seems a bit odd that these elite athletes need to be so scantily clad and that they probably have more to worry about than waxing, ingrowing hairs and itchiness in the run up to the games?

You are. You are repeatedly pretending that all women have always played in bikinis. They didn't; in fact adult athletes had a rule about bikinis imposed on them that they had not grown up with...

Does it never even cross your mind to wonder why women wear bikinis and men wear shorts and t shirts? Not even for a single, solitary second?

Come now, we don't need to descend to head tilting and petty insult. We've been going round in circles for days Grin but I've found it an interesting discussion all the same and been given much to ponder.

I don't actually believe this thread is happening. Substitute Primark for Ted Baker. The point is that when she chooses her own clothes she can choose how much she wants to reveal or not reveal. Her kit does not give her that choice.

What has happened to the thread Grin I confess I know absolutely nothing about beach volleyball and the rules and regulations by the way, so haven't had much to say about that,

If I was going to be insulting, I'd do it properly and I wouldn't ever need to resort to sneers about money. Trust me, I have a lot I could say..

There's no need for this. Seriously?

TaraCarter · 20/08/2016 21:49

Mind boggles.

If I'd said M&S, I suppose I'd have been accused of calling her daughter frumpy. Debenhams? Rich- VBMum would have inferred I was saying her daughter had loads of money to spare, and have been offended that I didn't appreciate the costs of sports training!

Maybe I should have gone with New Look? Nah, agist. How dare I assume a 17 year old went there like all the other teens do? Besides they do student discount there, and I'm sure she can turn that into a slur, somehow.

Do you think H&M is safe?

TaraCarter · 20/08/2016 21:51

meck, there's need. Otherwise I wouldn't have said it.

But you are suggesting all athletes dislike their kit, that they see regulation kit as a restriction on their personal freedom of choice, and that its prohibitive to more girls taking up the sport.

You have have been told repeatedly by people involved in the sport that this is not case and are choosing to ignore this because fit in with your own view.

BertrandRussell · 20/08/2016 22:10

"But you are suggesting all athletes dislike their kit, that they see regulation kit as a restriction on their personal freedom of choice". I said/suggested/implied nothing of the sort.

I'll say

MrsLion · 20/08/2016 22:13

Tara, your comments are totally unnecessary.

I am also bowing out of what was an interesting debate due to the tone it has now taken.

clicknclack · 20/08/2016 22:13

If anything it seems there are more restrictions on the options available to men

clicknclack · 20/08/2016 22:16

as to why the women aren't wearing what the men are when according to the current rules it is completely permitted... apparently the uniforms that are like the men's hold gritty sand in more places than the bikini style. The men don't appear to have that choice.

BertrandRussell · 20/08/2016 22:17

"of what was an interesting debate due to the tone it has now taken"

Interesting you didn't bow out when I was told I wasn't a decent person. Or when I was repeatedly sworn at and accused of victim blaming...

meck · 20/08/2016 22:19

I might take the same course, MrsLion, and for similar reasons, but will hover for a while yet.

MrsLion Nope. No one is suggesting that all of the athletes dislike their kit. You are struggling to understand the argument.

We are saying some may dislike it. Some. Because some - even one - is significant.

Are you saying they ALL like it? How do you know?

We're saying it's actually quite likely that some girls will be put off by skimpy outfits. Is that impossible to understand?
