That having a bikini wax shouldn't be a necessary part of any job?

I've been watching the amazing gymnastics at the olympics and every time I can't help but wonder if they are all happy to have such revealing gym costumes. I would hate to have a camera doing a slow mo when I'm legs akimbo in the air wearing so little even if the camera angles seem to be discrete.

I have tried to look up if there is a rule about the cut and if they wanted could they wear little shorts but I can't find anything. I did read if they remove a wedgie they get marked down?!

AIBU to think that in this day and age it seems a bit odd that these elite athletes need to be so scantily clad and that they probably have more to worry about than waxing, ingrowing hairs and itchiness in the run up to the games?

Thats so you want the entire of sport to change so a minority group within a gender can be happy?

Well get painting your placards and chaining yourself to fences. I look forward to watching you now strive to change it, because talk is cheep, so off you go, feminists assemble.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/08/2016 20:43

Blimey.

WilLiAmHerschel · 16/08/2016 20:46

Yanbu op I always wonder this.
Fear of my pubes showing was a big reason I stopped going swimming as a teen!

ThatsWotSheSaid · 16/08/2016 20:46

jiggly no ones saying they need to wear burned bras. Just that they could have the option of leggings or something. Hmm

Jiggly, do you object to women/girls being given more choice and control over what they are required to wear to participate in their chosen sport? It doesn't seem too controversial to me.

BikeGeek · 16/08/2016 20:57

In the swimming these days all the women compete in legsuits, no bikini waxing necessary

Liara · 16/08/2016 21:01

It's the least of the abuse of their bodies those poor girls are going through.

meck · 16/08/2016 21:03

We've already covered most of this, but most uniform regulations will allow unitards or covering outfits. Though of course leotards are favoured mainly for reasons of maximising points in demonstrating the required elements, as a previous poster said more eloquently earlier.
Leotards too high cut are not allowed. Form fitting uniforms are essential, though, for practical and safety reasons, and for displaying body lines. Though many also object to the 'spray on' outfits (as somebody said up thread), so what is the alternative!

justilou · 16/08/2016 21:06

Wonder if they can claim waxing and lasers as a tax write-off?

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 16/08/2016 21:10

"Do you want the rules and regulations of all sports changed to suit a feminist agenda?"

Would anybody rationally answer no to this? Like no, they wouldn't want the rules looked over from the perspective of equality, of freedom, of choices, chances, and fair expectations for women in a women's sport?

Next on MN. Becoming a prostitute or lapdancer is a free choice and perfectly valid career choice."

Actually Lynda being a lapdancer IS a free and perfectly valid career choice for many women. Lucrative as well. Oh, and my best friend is a retired porn star. She was very good at her job, which she did by choice.

Amazing really. When we CHOOSE to do certain jobs, why do some women complain about the 'sexualisation' etc? I'm sure if these were men-only careers you would be complaining about that too.

wheresmybloodygreencard · 16/08/2016 21:38

PS - I've seen her photos. She was not fully shaved. FWIW. And she only retired a few years ago.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 16/08/2016 21:46

But they do have the options for leggings under leotards or catsuits...they just don't take the option Hmm

SpeakNoWords · 16/08/2016 21:51

Why is that though? Are they made aware there's a genuine free choice? Are they given the options as part of the provided kit? Is the general culture accepting of someone who chooses to be different or would they face peer pressure to conform with the expected look?

ThatsWotSheSaid · 16/08/2016 21:52

jiggly the rules seem to allow leggings but in practice it seems they would be marked down.

I've seen a few competitors wearing shorts over leotards, and in one case that was the club uniform. I have seen black leggings with leotards, but only once I think. Leotards are most popular for reasons above, mentioned a few times now I think.

Sorry, to the person whose post I highlighted. I wasn't aiming my whole comment at you!
