Not sure where the bb came from!

AverageGayLad · 16/08/2016 11:02

We had so much to eat last night we didn't want breakfast this morning! Might go down to the sea today.

Looks beautiful. Great for recharging the batteries.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 16/08/2016 11:07

Morning all!

what that cake is stunning! I'm so incredibly jealous! I tried to make my DS a Toby cake (from Thomas & Friends....)

It looked like a turd with eyes Sad

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/08/2016 11:11

Thank you Better. A piece of MN Cake is definitely more in keeping with my "healthy" eating.

That cake will be remembered many years later though.

Reminds me of my godawful attempts at making stuff at school. Was a bit of a family joke trying to guess what the hell I'd made/painted this time. My "creations" were never forgotten though!

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/08/2016 11:17

a turd with eyes Grin

At least you tried, Jess! In our family, the only Thomas cakes were baked by Grandma, with me at a safe distance from the kitchen.

AverageGayLad · 16/08/2016 11:32

I'd eat that Toby cake Grin

I got my DP one of those Thorntons plaque things that you can leave a message on. The guy in the shop said he wasn't very good at writing on them and showed me his efforts on a piece of receipt paper. It was terrible. So I asked if I could do it myself. My handwriting it quite neat but it turns out writing with icing is bloody hard. It looked awful! You could barely read it! But he said it tasted just as good and was pretty funny.

Ha! Thanks guys! I remember saying to DS 'look, it's Toby! A Toby cake!'. He left the kitchen to fetch his Toby toy, returned, placed it next to the Turd With Eyes and gave me what could only be described as a baleful stare....

He's into Lego now so I might attempt a Lego cake....how hard can that be? Confused

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/08/2016 11:40

Yes, cake - and chocolate plaque - decoration is an art to be mastered! It just looks easy!

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/08/2016 11:43

Jess - Just buy him a Colin the Caterpillar chocolate cake from M and S. (See earlier thread for full discussion of deliciosity of said cake)

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 16/08/2016 11:45

better. Agree. I blame bloody Pinterest - although you do find the occasional 'fail' on there; I'm always touched they were proud enough to post anyway and give them a 'love'.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 16/08/2016 11:49

better. Ooh, not tried the M&S one - did get one from Co Op (obviously Wink) but the 'feet' (are they feet? Do caterpillars have feet?) were the most lurid green and rather unappetising. I wonder if I could shave a bit off Colin to make him more blockish and turn him into Toby?!

toadgirl · 16/08/2016 11:49

Colin the Caterpillar chocolate cake from M and S. (See earlier thread for full discussion of deliciosity of said cake)

Yes, it's become quite famous and I can vouch for the fact that it's delicious.

Toads eat caterpillars, especially if made of chocolate :)

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/08/2016 11:56

Jess I actually think that's a very good idea. You could transform Colin into Toby with a few adroit adjustments! He's just the right shape and ready made for you - just hide the packet from your son!

PS the M and S feet are delicious and fiercely fought over whenever I've bought a Colin. which has been often.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 16/08/2016 12:10

I have just Googled Colin; had no idea that he was a celebrity! Although not sure about him 'boasting fans like Boris Johnson and David Cameron' Confused.....

I could do a 'Stars In Their Eyes' type thing..... 'Tonight, Colin, you are about to become.....Toby the Tram Engine!'

StorminaBcup · 16/08/2016 12:14

M&S caterpillar cake is ace. DH always buys me one for my birthday.

Jess you can buy Lego fondant and icing molds on ebay

AverageGayLad · 16/08/2016 12:15

Jess You can get a huge lego brick shaped cake mould, you could dye a sponge red and use that?

Storm and AGL. Thanks, I think Lego cake should be failsafe - I'd feel guilty mutilating poor Colin, he's too cute! Although food dye and I do have a rather unhappy past..... Mary Berry I am not.

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/08/2016 12:24

Oh, please don't put me off by mentioning Boris and Call Me Dave, Jess! I had no idea I was in such bad company!
