to think that 16 weeks is not 4 months!

Friend writes on FB "I can't believe DS is 4 months already". He's not, he's 16 weeks. He'll be 4 months on the 25th. If you carry on like that, they'd be having their first birthday a month early!

Well aren't you a fun sponge.

camelfinger · 16/08/2016 06:31

It depends on your audience. Once a playground mum asked me how old DS was and was astonished that both of our children were 2, given how big her DS was. There was actually almost a year between them.

I work in a role where getting dates right is important so for that reason I wouldn't round up ages.

Flashbangandgone · 16/08/2016 07:27

Also, measuring in months isn't very precise.... 1 Feb to 30 Apr = 12 weeks 5 days, whereas 1 Jun to 31 Aug = 13 weeks 1 day, a 3.26% difference! That's equivalent to a whole year in your thirties!

MapleandPear · 16/08/2016 08:32

People who correct others pointlessly should know that the person you corrected is kicking your shins in their heads.

Togaparties · 16/08/2016 09:10

Meh - it's close enough

NotYoda · 16/08/2016 11:06

So, you are covering yourself in glory here, op by basically saying your friend is thick Grin

Whinyleonard · 16/08/2016 12:36

There is just no joy in some people. How lovely it is to have healthy growing children and how utterly joyless and mean minded it is to be so cross with so called friends and question their intelligence.
I think sometimes people lose sight of whats important in life. My best friend is Syrian with no alive family remaining and she is only 27. I don't think she would mind whether her brother or neice had been described in innaccurate or careless age labels. I am all she has in the world.

You're a bit whiney Whiny.

If we only focused on the serious important things, AIBU would be half the size and half the fun.

Haven't RTFT but i say YANBU. This mildly irritates me too.

ItWentInMyEye · 17/08/2016 23:55

Yanbu. Saw someone on Facebook today say her DD was "25.5 months old..." Confused 2 then.

Yorkieheaven · 18/08/2016 00:06

Yes but the op was complaining about someone posting months not years so ^^ you should think she's unreasonable.

I was a HCP and yes at work we counted in months but in RL kids are 2/2 half 3/etc. It's a bit affected to use months.

KickAssAngel · 18/08/2016 00:13

I agree with OP. If you're going to announce x months from the birth, it's on the same date each month, not by however many weeks, and then (inaccurately) convert each 4 weeks to a month. If we're going to make each month 4 weeks long, we need an extra month in the year. I suggest it be called KickAss-uary or KickAss-ber.

Whinyleonard · 18/08/2016 03:36

Say what you like OP but you are the person slagging off your friend on the internet and calling her thick. That's pretty low in my opinion. I hope she reads this so she can find some new friends.

NotYoda · 18/08/2016 07:27

OP

If you think this thread is fun you should get out more.

missm0use · 18/08/2016 10:09

I signed up for a lot of the baby clubs free stuff and they ALL send out emails based on 4 weeks equals 1 month old so I get the "your baby at x months" out of sync of when she actually is that age. Which means I've generally forgotten what she's supposed to be doing!

EnoughAlready999 · 18/08/2016 10:23

Whiny it's anonymous on here. That means you don't know who I am and vice versa. Why is this annoying you so much? If you don't like it, don't read it.

NotYoda I don't think this thread is fun.

Agreed Op, it is mildly irritating because it's incorrect. 4 months is the date they were born but 4 months later... not 16 weeks! If we're going to make a statement let's make sure it's right.
